DIRECTOR'S NOT DIRECTOR'S NOT

Hello and welcome to the second issue of our Career Connect newsletter! Time flies and we are already half-way in 2024!

I hope that you all have been having positive experiences in your learning journey so far – we at Career Connect certainly have been having a great time putting together a variety of events for everyone In this issue, we have highlighted a few of these. One event that has been growing season by season is Project Protégé This is a platform where we bring back our Alumni who have stepped forward to serve as mentors for our students. It is a 4month programme and students get to learn from mentors how to be successful in their careers after graduation. Season 18 saw, arguably, the largest number of mentors and students coming on board – ever! Another significant event was our Young Graduates Career Forum where an enthusiastic panel comprising our Alumni shared tips from their own lessons learned on how to better prepare for life and work. This event culminated with the presentation ceremony for our EDGE Award winners in recognition of their all-rounded achievements – our ‘ super stars’ who proudly embody the SIM Graduate Attributes!

In the next couple of months, Career Connect will be rolling out a slew of more exciting events for you, including the mega IGNITE Career & Internship Fair in October, a new season of Project Protégé, and many more! Do dive into this issue to find out more – and better still, don’t FOMO and regret – quickly sign up on CareerSense and join us in these activities and pull a couple of friends as well!

I hope you will enjoy this issue, and if you have any suggestions on how we can improve – do let us know as well!

Cheers!

L’ORÉAL SHOWCASE L’ORÉAL SHOWCASE

On 19 April, 7 SIM Students had the opportunity to visit L’Oréal’s Singapore Showcase held at Raffles Hotel Participants had the opportunity to glimpse the cutting-edge research initiatives and partnerships that L’Oréal Singapore has with different universities

Innovative technology was showcased through interactive booths, featuring a skin analysis machine and custom lip colour creator, highlighting the diverse range of their brand portfolio. In addition, the L’Oréal Brandstorm Challenge was launched at the showcase, inviting students and young adults to develop creative and innovative ways to use technology to reinvent the future of professional beauty

My experience at the L’Oréal Showcase was truly inspiring, witnessing the innovative products and trends shaping the beauty industry. Despite my primary interest lying outside the beauty industry, attending the Showcase provided valuable insights into a diverse and influential sector, broadening my understanding of business and innovation in unexpected ways

WHATISMBTI? WHATISMBTI?

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality assessment that categorises individuals into 16 types based on four dichotomies: Introversion (I) vs. Extraversion (E), Sensing (S) vs. Intuition (N), Thinking (T) vs. Feeling (F), and Judging (J) vs. Perceiving (P). Each type offers unique strengths and career preferences.

I vs E

Introverts gain energy from spending time alone or in small groups. They prefer solitary activities and often need quiet time to recharge after social interactions

Extraverts gain energy from being around people and engaging in social activities. They thrive and feel energised in environments where they can interact with others

T vs F

Thinkers make decisions based on logic, objectivity, and rational analysis. They prioritise fairness and consistency, often weighing pros and cons to reach conclusions.

Feelers make decisions based on personal values, emotions, and the impact on others They prioritise harmony, empathy, and the wellbeing of people involved.

1 1

Self-Awareness

Helps you identify your strengths and weaknesses to choose a career that fits your natural preferences.

3 3

Improved Job Satisfaction

Aligning your job with your type leads to more enjoyment, motivation, and performance.

S vs N

Sensing types focus on concrete information They prefer practical, hands-on activities and rely on their five senses to gather information

Intuitive types are more interested in abstract concepts and future possibilities. They enjoy exploring ideas, patterns, and meanings beyond the immediate reality

J vs P

Judging types prefer structure, organisation, and planning. They like to have things settled and decided, and they thrive in environments with clear rules and schedules

Perceivers prefer flexibility, spontaneity, and keeping options open They enjoy adapting to new situations and often feel constrained by too much structure.

2 2 Career Alignment

Guides you to roles that match your personality type for greater fulfilment and success

4 4

Enhanced Communication

Knowing colleagues' MBTI types improves teamwork by understanding different work styles.
