DIRECTOR, LEARNER ADVISORY & CAREER CENTRE SINGAPORE INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT
Bonjour!
I wonder how many of you had a chance to follow the recent Olympic games that happened in Paris? Well, whether you did or not, it’s OK! In this Olympic-inspired issue we will be bringing in a flavour of the event into this issue so do look out for our filler topics and fun activities specially put together for you by our team at Career Connect
While all the excitement was happening in Paris, we have also seen a flurry of activities right here on campus! Have you experienced our new board game called Career SuperDrive? I won’t spoil your fun but you can get a glimpse of what it is all about in this issue and perhaps you might want to join us for the next run! We will also be reporting on other happenings such as the company visits to Phillip Capital and KPMG, the Career Connect Roadshow and the enriching networking session our students had at the ICA event held on our campus.
And the excitement is not letting up over the next few months either! We have lined up many other activities that we are confident will suit your interests, such as: the Halogen Networking Session; our first-ever Q&A session with industry experts in the areas of Finance, Business, Marketing & Sales where you can get advice to help navigate your careers; or the next season of Project Protégé, and so on. Do look out for the announcements which we will be pushing via our CareerSense app and sign up quickly!
I hope you will enjoy this issue, and we do welcome you to pop in Career Connect to chat with us soon!
Cheers!

On 28 Aug, approximately 30 students participated in the company visit to Phillip Capital, where the HR Manager provided an in-depth overview of the company ' s diverse corporate functions, offering comprehensive insight into its dynamic environment. This was followed by a presentation that highlighted their operations and advisory services.
Participants were also given the opportunity to tour the office, and engage in a networking session. Representatives from the Advisory team along with the HR Manager shared insider tips on what Phillip Capital seeks for in candidates.
I had a wonderful experience during the Phillip Capital Company Visit. Through this company visit, I managed to speak to the HR Manager, receiving advice on what companies look for in potential candidates.
DXC gathered aspiring female leaders from the technology sector for an inspiring and empowering event attended by over 40 students on 22 July. The event featured a series of engaging panel discussions with industry experts, where they shared their personal experiences and insights, shedding light on the challenges and successes women face in the tech industry.
In addition to the panels, attendees benefited from breakout sessions that delved into various tech roles, offering a closer look at the different paths within the field, as well as networking opportunities with industry leaders!
The exposure to real-world applications gave me a fresh perspective on how AI and data-driven strategies are used at scale. The company’s focus on collaboration and growth stood out to me, reinforcing my belief that DXC provides an ideal environment for young professionals eager to make a meaningful impact in the tech industry
On 29 August, over 20 students connected with officers from the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), gaining valuable insights into their vital role in securing Singapore’s borders and enforcing immigration laws. Officers discussed their use of advanced technology to address security threats and shared information about career opportunities, including attractive benefits and competitive starting salaries.
Beyond a typical career talk, students gained a profound understanding of the daily life of an ICA officer, highlighting the importance of their role in upholding immigration laws.
Attending the career talk with ICA ambassadors was eye-opening! I learned about various roles, from airport operations to project management. What really stood out to me was how ICA values passion over educational background. It has made me seriously consider exploring careers focused on being on the front lines of Singapore.

On 12 September, the Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) gave students an exclusive glimpse into the new upcoming hotels and attractions including the highly anticipated Illumination's Minion Land. Over 30 students received a comprehensive overview of the Management Associate Programme (MAP), detailing potential career paths and the key attributes RWS seeks in candidates for this role.
The career talk gave aspiring students a unique opportunity to explore career prospects in Singapore’s hospitality sector, with tailored advice and industry-specific insights.
The session was highly insightful, showcasing valuable information on RWS programmes. The speaker was energetic and engaging as he offered excellent advice and guidance throughout the session, making the session both informative and enjoyable. I look forward to more industry talks to explore new career opportunities.

My experience at the Bank of America Academy workshops was insightful. The facilitators comprehensively covered essential skills like creating an elevator pitch, refining your resumé, and shared interview know-hows. They also interacted with the students actively and kept us engaged throughout. I highly recommend attending future iterations of these workshops!
