THE WISDOM OF VIEJO ANTONIO

A bilingual storytelling performance that uncovers the mythology and culture of the ancient Maya. Utilizing masks and original music, this show meets TEKS objectives in Theater Arts, Music, History, and Cultural Heritage.

Cara Mía Theatre entertains with the smallest mask in the world – the red clown nose! Through physical comedy and highly theatrical sketches, students are acquainted with a classical form of theater – the clown!

Cara Mía Theatre brings Mexican traditions to family events with our Giant Puppets, Mojigangas. Perfect for family events!

JUANA INÉZ: THE CHILD WHO LOVED TO READ

Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz lived in Mexico during the 1600's when women were discouraged from reading and writing. Through perseverance, Sor Juana overcame many obstacles to become the most celebrated poet in Mexico’s history.

FLORES Y CALAVERAS

The story of a Mexican-American girl and a calavera (skeleton) who teaches her the beauty of the Mexican Days of the Dead tradition.

SEARCHING FOR THE SIX FLAGS OF TEXAS

Based on Social Studies objectives for Texas History, students learn about the roles of Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the Confederacy, and the United States in the history of Texas.

MASK MAKING FOR THEATRE

2-Hour Workshop & Residency

Students create masks based on research on cultural and theatrical masks worldwide. In a highly structured curriculum, students design their masks and learn how to use them for performances

MEXICAN ARTS & CRAFTS

2-Hour Workshop & Residency

Students will create pieces inspired by pre-Hispanic art, Mexico’s colonial period, and popular art that has existed for centuries in small towns throughout Mexico.

Additional 2-hour workshops may be scheduled to build a cumulative curriculum of up to 10 hours.

The Huichol people created the Eyes of God to protect them.

The first Spaniards encountered the Huichol people in the Sierra Madre mountains of Mexico. The tradition of making Eyes of God has spread beyond Mexico.
