The Delicate Tears of the Waning Moon

This powerful new play tells the story of Paulina a Mexican journalist who fights for justice for femicide victims. After surviving a brutal attack, she struggles to recover her memory Her journey is a moving exploration of trauma, healing, and the search for truth

LA RAZÓN BLINDADA

Two political prisoners meet every Sunday to tell each other the story of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. Through absurdist and physical comedy, La Razón Blindada reveals two men mischievously turn to storytelling to survive their new reality

Drawing from Cervantes’ Don Quixote, Kafka’s The Truth About Sancho Panza, and testimonies from Argentine political prisoners of the 1970s, La Razón Blindada is a moving testament to the human need to imagine, to resist, and to persevere.

MASK MAKING FOR THEATRE

2-Hour Workshop & Residency

Students create masks based on research on cultural and theatrical masks worldwide In a highly structured curriculum, students design their masks and learn how to use them for performances

This popular residency is available for day classes and after-school programs

MEXICAN ARTS & CRAFTS

2-Hour Workshop & Residency

Students will create pieces inspired by pre-Hispanic art, Mexico’s colonial period, and popular art that has existed for centuries in small towns throughout Mexico

Additional 2-hour workshops may be scheduled to build a cumulative curriculum of up to 10 hours.

ACTING WITH MEXICAN FOLK MASK

Students will learn how to perform with masks from around the world They will also work with theater games and essential elements for character construction

Students will create a character based on the mask they will be working with and on research on cultural and theatrical masks from around the world

JUANA INÉZ: THE CHILD WHO LOVED TO READ

Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz lived in Mexico during the 1600's when women were discouraged from reading and writing. Through perseverance, Sor Juana overcame many obstacles to become the most celebrated poet in Mexico’s history.

The story of a Mexican-American girl and a calavera (skeleton) who teaches her the beauty of the Mexican Days of the Dead tradition

Based on Social Studies objectives for Texas History, students learn about the roles of Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the Confederacy, and the United States in the history of Texas.

THE WISDOM OF VIEJO ANTONIO

A bilingual storytelling performance that uncovers the mythology and culture of the ancient Maya. Utilizing masks and original music, this show meets TEKS objectives in Theater Arts, Music, History, and Cultural Heritage.

Cara Mía Theatre entertains with the smallest mask in the world – the red clown nose! Through physical comedy and highly theatrical sketches, students are acquainted with a classical form of theater – the clown!

URSULA

The story of Nadia, a 7-year-old separated from her mother while seeking asylum at the U S –Mexico border Told through puppets, music, and movement, the play captures her memories of Honduras and her struggle to make sense of her new reality

BIG PUPPETS RESIDENCY

Big puppets have been used in many cultures and for many different theater companies worldwide. Oversized puppets, or Mojigangas, have been used in Mexican towns during religious and cultural festivities. Mojigangas usually represent humans or animals from the town and are beautiful and playful. In this workshop, students will be shown the various types of puppets before creating their designs on the eighth day.

ACTING UP WORKSHOPS

Students will develop confidence, creativity, and communication skills Students develop these skills through interactive theatre games and warm-ups. They also will utilize improvisation and scene work to develop their creativity and acting skills Students will work collaboratively with short scripted scenes and learn to create a character

DRUM ORCHESTRA

Building Confidence Through Rhythm Residency

Students will learn the basics of playing drums and percussion in an orchestra of found objects such as plastic buckets, Tupperware shakers, and metal trash cans Over four classes, students will learn the fundamentals of rhythm, playing in time with other players and creating polyrhythms This residency will culminate in a final performance for students’ parents and peers
