NYK Cattle Company 2024 Private Treaty Bull Sale

Page 1

Welcome, 2024 marks our 10th anniversary sale. We are extremely proud of this set of bulls and feel they really represent the direction we have had in mind since the beginning. We focus on cows that are problem free and can produce and rebreed with minimal supplementation. We do expect a certain amount of performance and I am a believer in EPDs, genomics, and performance data as tools for building better cattle. That being said job #1 is to raise a calf every year and maintain her calving interval without requiring any hands on assistance . We have a 1 strike system when it come to pulling calves, helping a calf suck, poor feet, etc. No free rides. These bulls are the next step in our program. They build off those hard working cows to add desirable traits to your herd. Calving ease bulls, curve bending herd bulls, and big powerful performance bulls are all represented. As always the bulls are developed on a TMR consisting of shredded grass hay, barley silage, and a 14% protein bull developer pellet. We are constantly tweaking the ration to keep the pen average around 3.5lbs gain/day. I am not a believer in designing a ration and letting bulls gain 5+lbs a day. To me, that is unsustainable and will lead to longevity issues. I’d rather lighten the ration and cull the poor performers. So you won’t see any 1400lb yearling weights here. I guarantee there are several bulls in the pen that could easily surpass that in a different setting however. Our private treaty format has been very popular and I think it really works to make sure people get the right bull for their goals. Please take a moment to analyze this catalog but I highly recommend seeing these bulls in person. There are no secrets here. See the mothers, see the sires. See our program. We’d love to share it with you.

Cameron, Kaitlin, Madison, Rylee, and Charlie Nykoliation Terms: Bulls sell by private treaty. First come first served. Once agreement on price has been reached a 50% deposit by cash or cheque will hold your bull until delivery in April/May. Bulls become the risk of the buyer once they have successfully passed a breeding soundness exam.

Guarantee: NYK Cattle Co guarantees to sell you a bull that is structurally sound and will have passed semen test by a licensed veterinarian prior to delivery. Should any bull fail to be a satisfactory breeder, unable to physically service a cow or heifer, he will be replaced with a bull of equal value if one is available, or credit will be made available for another bull. A replacement bull will not be provided in the event of injury or mismanagement.

We purchased 1013 from Dusty Rose Cattle Co. 1013 combines the consistent Coleman Bravo with the dominant Erelite 1X cow. Calving ease, power, and maternal excellence in one package The “Easy” sons are exceptional. Good feet, low birth weights, high docility, and strong performance across the board. We lost 1013 to a broken leg this fall. We will only have one more calf crop off of him unfortunately

We used Major for the influence of his sire Stellar, known for excellent feet and udders Major calves easy with moderate bw. Long and smooth calves but no little tiny ones. His sons have length and are sound structured with great feet and docility. They keep getting better with age. Now that we have milking daughters and have used sons of Major ourselves we like him even more

Feature bull! We purchased NYK 1L via a pregnant recip. Contrary to his Harvestor heritage, “Terry” is extremely docile and has been a family favorite since birth Moderate, stout, long enough, with a tremendous hip and proud front. His EPDs and genomic data point to him being a curve bending performance bull that won’t increase birth weights. His mother needs no introduction in the Angus world. She is as dominant and consistent as any donor in Canada. His sire combines SAV Resource with SAV Density. She has an absolutely perfect udder and is bred back early again this year. In my opinion the Torque daughters are better versions of the Density bloodline that is so highly regarded. Heifer safe, herd bull, whatever you want to call him. He’s good and his daughters will be too.

My daughter Madison’s bull (pink tag) He’s longer and a bit more performance than some of the other 1013 sons. 3 year old dam did a great job. She has a tidy udder and is a solid producer for Madison If it didn’t mean cutting Madison a cheque I’d probably keep this guy to replace 1013. Safe for larger heifers in year 1 but you’ll want him in with the cows sooner than later. He’s really good.
