DearMembers,

August has seen some great events happen at Cambridge Country Club

Last month’s newsletter was released at around the same time as ladies captains day hence the release in this months newsletter Our ladies captain Donna Pollock organised a teddy bears picnic theme for the event It was great to see so many weird and wonderful costumes and the camaraderie was brilliant To do a beat the pro as part of that was great fun. Well done to Donna and her support team that put together a superb day at the club. The pictures really don’t do justice to such a great day

This month we unfortunately say goodbye to Richard Bramley It has been a great pleasure working with him over the last 2-3 months. He has been a real asset to the pro shop and will be missed I wish him well as he continues his education in Michigan, USA. It has been great to play some events with members over the last month. I hope to do this more often once I have additional staff to fill the void now that Richard has gone I'm looking forward to the captains away day at Wellingborough at the end of August.

August has also seen the new tee time system installation. As with any change, it hasn't been without the odd teething issue but we are moving towards a better streamlined system at the club. Thank you for your patience during this time.

The Taylormade golf day at the beginning of the month has been a great success and a lot of members are well on their way to enjoying some new equipment and making some golf gains. I hope you enjoy these days because PING have just confirmed the 4th of October for their demo day Please book in with me asap as we have limited timings available.

We have had both Breheny civil engineering and NSPCC host charity days this month and both raised an incredible amount of money for charity. Combined they have raised more that twenty thousand pounds We at Cambridge Country Club are very proud to host, promote and support these events.

Next month we have many exciting events such as the Club Championship and the ladies Rose Bowl competition I wish you all good luck and hope you continue to enjoy the course improvements that Simon and his team are making.

Happy Golfing

Sincerely,

Head Greenkeeper SimonWinters

Greenkeeper’s Report

My first anniversary of working at CCC has just arrived and hopefully, you can all see the course moving forward in the right direction We have started preparing for the Club championships. Giving the greens a bit more pace but also keeping the trueness.

On the 14th of September, we hold the Ladies Robb Rose Bowl a county event which will be the first county event we have held since I have been here. We will be showcasing this fabulous course to ladies from all over Cambridgeshire, which is a great honour.

Hopefully with the course still improving we will get to hold over county events in the future. Once these events are over we will be looking at preparing the greens for winter I want to take the greens into and through winter being healthy which in spring will give us a big head start on this year, enabling us to push the greens to the standard that I think they should be at.

A Message From

The Senior’s Captain

The second leg of the CAGU Seniors Knockout Trophy was hotly contested by CCC at St Neots Golf Club The first leg lead held by CCC from their home tie was 2 ½ to ½, but St Neots - a very competitive club meant the match was never going to be easy

…..but how did the Seniors from CCC get to this point?

GOLF
Continues Overleaf...

For those new to the Club this is a Cambridge Area Golfing Union Interclub Seniors Knockout, 4 BBB competition, with each round being drawn – in order to equalise the home advantage.

Round 2, Safron Walden at CCC Colin Dye/Nick Webb won 1 up, David Ritchie/David Teather won 3/1, Steve Richardson/Andy Barnard won 6/4.

Round 3, Brampton Park Golf Club at Brampton. Andy Barnard and Steve Richardson Won 2/1, Dave Teather and Dave Ritchie won 3/1. Colin Dye and Nick Webb Won 3/2

At this point Andy Barnard had to drop out because his handicap went under the lower limit, well played Andy, thanks for getting us this far Round 4, Semi Final. Nene Park Golf Club at CCC, Steve Richardson and David John won 3/2, Dave Ritchie and David Teather won 3/2, Colin Dye and Nick Webb lost 4/3.

Round 5, The Final, played over 2 legs, home and away against St Neots Golf Club. For the first leg we were drawn at home with Steve Richardson and David John winning 1 up, Dave Ritchie and David Teather won 5/4 Colin Dye and Nick Webb match halved. 2 ½ to ½ lead for CCC.

Round 1, Bye 3 – 0 to CCC 3 - 0 to CCC 2 – 1 to CCC
Continues Overleaf...

….and so to the 2nd leg at St Neots. It was clear from the outset that St Neots had restructured their team to put some of their better players out against us, and it almost worked. In match 1, Steve and David lost a few early holes, whilst in match 2, the 2 Daves were striding ahead and at one point leading by 5 holes. In match 3, myself and Nick were struggling to keep up with our opposite pair and eventually went down 5 and 3 During the morning, our supporters (Graham and Mike) were keeping us up to date with scores and match 2 was looking bad with the St Neots pair suddenly switching into gear and pushing the match right to the 18th and forcing a half That meant we were almost certain of a win but needed match 1 to really push it home, which they did and took their game to the 18th and won

Second leg result was a very well fought half, 1 ½ to 1 ½ Overall result a win for CCC 4 matches to 2

The absence of any CAGU official at the celebrations after the final match meant that it fell upon the members of St Neots to present the Trophy and Mementos to the winning team. A task that they performed very well and as the pictures show the day ended with a lot of humour and smiling faces Thanks to St Neots for their generous hospitality

As Seniors Captain, I would like to thank all players for their efforts over the whole series of matches and the Senior Section for encouragement and support throughout the competition.
