Learn the process and best practices to plan, record, edit, and distribute your interview-style podcast with optional homework to give you practice between sessions. What equipment do you need and how do you set up at home to record yourself and your guest who’s calling in remotely? How do you add music, and where can you find it license-free? CRAFTS MAKING REALISTIC MINIATURE FOOD WITH POLYMER CLAY Dina Gjertsen | Art and Technology Educator

Learn how to make hyper-realistic, scale miniature food from polymer clay to use in dollhouses, art projects or jewelry. We’ll explore a variety of polymer clay techniques, including making detailed canes that can be reduced to extremely tiny diameters, texturing and tinting clay with chalk pastels, using liquid polymer clay to add the appearance of wetness and using homemade tools and supplies to create miniature scenes. Participants will come away from the class with experience in all the skills and techniques required to make miniature food of all types. COURSE CODE: MINI Sec. 01: 6 Thursdays, 5:30–7:30pm. WOOD CARVING WITH SMALL TOOLS Dan Paret | Woodworker, planesimplebox.com

Through a series of demonstrations and discussion, you will be introduced to a variety of wood carving techniques and styles, all of which can be carved with a modest set of small wood carving tools. We will explore surface texture, low-relief, raised line, and incised carving. Each class will include a project demonstration, and between classes you will have an opportunity to create the project. We will share our work and the instructor will answer questions before moving on to the next carving project. Please see the supply list linked in the section description at ccae.org and in the confirmation email that you receive after you register. In the comfort of your home, create a stained glass panel with guidance provided during synchronous and asynchronous classes. All the tools needed will be provided to you along with supplies necessary for one large 12” x 18” stained glass panel. You will meet online on Zoom weekly with your instructor for a step by step demonstration, basic skill-building, and troubleshooting. You’ll have access to short videos of your instructor demonstrating the different processes. You will be provided with a simple geometric stained glass pattern along with glass bevels and a choice of 6 glass sheets to create your own original stained glass window. The window will be framed with precut zinc channels for you to proudly display your masterpiece. The kit, including the tools and glass, costs $285 and you must pay the fee directly to the instructor after you register. Instructions for purchasing the kit and choosing the glass options will be emailed to you. Registration will close on January 20, 5pm. KNITTING FOR BEGINNERS Kirsten Swartz | Artist

This class will go through the basic building blocks of knitting, giving you the skills to take on a variety of simple knitting projects. We will start with casting on and off and the primary stitches (knitting and purling), and move on to knitting in the round and increasing/decreasing stitches. We will also discuss how to read a yarn label and select the right yarn for your project, how to read a knitting pattern, and end with decorative designs and finishing touches like pom poms and fringes. This class is perfect for the winter months and will give you the skills you need to make gifts for friends and family, or special projects for yourself. Do you have a pile of clothing that needs to be altered and because they don’t perfectly fit, you end up never wearing them? Affording a tailor is a luxury in the times that we are living. Join us to learn how to alter clothes at home. You will learn how to hem your pants and skirts, shorten your sleeves, and make shorts from that perfect pair of jeans you own. We will use a sewing machine, but if you don’t own one, we will also discuss the basic stitches used to sew by hand and will explain helpful tools and techniques to use when altering clothes at home.
