Eric Bornstein | M.L.A., Harvard, Artist Portrait drawing and painting enhances and supports deep seeing into another living being. This process bridges our differences and can create enhanced intimacy with non-human species. In this class, we will focus on painting and drawing portraits of special cats and dogs in our lives, so we will celebrate their faces and names to help tell their stories whether they are still with us or passed on. We will also create a Facebook group and have an online exhibit of our works.

PAINTING ABSTRACT ART: ALL LEVELS

Abstract art covers a vast amount of different art making styles and strategies. This mixed-level class will help you focus in on the wide world of abstract painting and allow you to practice examining, discussing, and creating your own abstract artworks. Each class will introduce you to a particular style and you’ll also view famous historical or contemporary works. Classes will also cover basic acrylic techniques. There are many different ways to think of and paint an abstract picture, so this class will begin with exercises based around shape, color, and composition. More advanced students will be guided on independent projects.

MIXED MEDIA COLLAGE
Natalia Slattery | Artist, nataliaslattery.com This eight-week workshop is an introduction to the world of collage and mixed-media art-making. Collage is one of the most accessible and freeing artistic mediums. With a creative eye, nearly anything in your home can become a material for expression. In this class, we will look to collage artists throughout history and the world around us for inspiration. Through in-class demonstrations, students will learn a myriad of collage techniques, including cut-paper, 3-D collage, and creating collagraphs for press-free printmaking.

DRAWING WITH A KNIFE: PAPER CUT ART
Peter O. Zierlein | Artist, peterozierlein.com This class offers an introduction to the history and various regional styles of paper cutting. Students will learn about the tools and techniques involved in creating paper cut art, design with paper shapes in 2D and 3D, learn to differentiate the intricacies of symmetrical design, and to apply paper cut art in commercial and fine art contexts. In-class demonstrations and exercises will explore the applications of paper cut art for illustration, decoration, stenciling, light projection, and fine art.

Bullet journals are customizable agendas, calendars, to-do lists, and diaries for anyone interested in a creative outlet to practice mindfulness, organize your thoughts, and plan your time. This class will go through the basic symbols and yearly, monthly, and daily spreads to get you started, then move into trackers for habits, moods, birthdays, etc. as well as more complex designs. Throughout the class we will cover some tools and art techniques you can use to embellish your journal such as calligraphy and hand lettering, pen and ink drawing, using color with colored pencils, watercolor pens, or watercolors, paper cutting, and collage. This is a great class to start the New Year—learn how to track healthy habits, make new goals for 2021, and create a beautiful and functional journal that is customized to you.

MINDFULNESS AND INTUITIVE ART
Jhilam Sanyal | Artist Art as a mindfulness practice and the act of intuitively painting or drawing is a practice accessible to all regardless of art experience or skill. This class will introduce mindfulness practices utilizing art for stress relief, establishing a connection with your heart and innate creativity, and incorporating creative practice into your daily life. The class will focus on mindfulness and art as process rather than a finished product or the technical aspects of art. Activities will include guided meditations and instructor led exercises to aid the student in discovering their own, unique natural creativity. Students will also have the opportunity to use their own art supplies and experiment with mediums of their choice. No art experience required.
