THEATER ACTING WORKSHOP: THE BASICS Dewayne Nelson | Actor on Stage, Film & TV

Explore the basics of acting for stage and film. We will work with scripts from contemporary plays and films, connecting our efforts to the work of living playwrights and film directors. We will use theater games and improvisation, having fun while taking chances. We will cover the audition process, what casting companies seek in an actor, and practical tips about the industry and how to get work as an actor. We all have a unique story inside us and this is your opportunity to tell yours! The key to successful storytelling lies not just in the well-crafted story itself but in how the story is presented to make an intimate connection with your listeners. Voices, movement, nuance are skills critical to the actor are key and they can be taught! Join us in exploring this exciting art form and release the hidden actor in you.

Have you ever thought about trying stand-up comedy? Or do you want to take your stand-up and comedy writing to the next level? This workshop will help you find your inner comedic voice, whittle down to find the funny, or punch up what already is. Students will also be given several opportunities outside of class to perform. IMPROVISATION: THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX Mary Valentine King | Actor and Director

Explore fresh and novel approaches to problem-solving in this introduction to improvisation. Meet new friends and enjoy developing unique skills while designing innovative solutions to everyday situations. Through the exploration of group exercises and theater games, you will have the opportunity to grow and exercise your creativity in a safe and respectful environment. No experience necessary!
