House Music

Being one of the greatest House events of the year, the 55th annual Senior School House Music Competition has been one of the most exciting moments of Term 1. As each House were to initially prepare and perform three items; two choral items and one instrumental performance, the year kicked off to an unprecedented start with a snap lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, nothing was going to prevent House Music from going ahead. The Music Department worked tirelessly to come up with a solution to the chaos caused by the virus, yet amidst the mayhem not one House failed to push through and persevere, arranging and rehearsing as if there was no tomorrow. In the end, each House performed one instrumental, having the option to perform one or two choral items with the opportunity of using sheet music, wherein the highest scoring of the choral performances counted towards the overall standings of the festival. The theme for this year was ‘Russian folk or Military songs’, which was met with an unyielding sense of determination. Taking place during one quiet Tuesday, it was a day of exuberant performances and a never-ending display of marvellous talent from all Houses. The event was adjudicated by Ms Karen Heath, the Coordinator of Music at Fintona Girls’ School. Armed with her extensive history as a music scholar and work with many well renowned ensembles, she provided an extensive insight into the fine nuances of performance, 16
