Healthcare Health Care Available At Your Fingertips

After some questions in years past about the financial health and well-being of Callaway County’s only hospital, 2018 proved to be a turning point in its stability and outlook for the future. Combined with additions to the list of specialists available in Fulton, Holts Summit and Auxvasse and an ownership change in one of the region’s largest health care systems, the health of the Callaway County health care industry is looking better than it has in years.

Fulton State Hospital

Fulton State Hospital is the oldest State Psychiatric Hospital west of the Mississippi. The hospital is certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and has been accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC) since 1984. Fulton State Hospital underwent a dramatic change recently that will impact the services the hospital provides. The new $211 Million state-of-the-art facility has revolutionized the services provided to the clients served. Fulton State Hospital

consists of treatment units for high security patients (300 beds), individuals with developmental disabilities (24 beds), and the Sexual Offender Rehabilitation and Treatment Services (SORTS) program (125 beds). The Nixon Forensic Center, opens, Biggs Forensic Center closed and clients from there and Guhleman Forensic Center moved into the new facility. The hospital will continue to maintain the 22-bed minimum security Hearnes Forensic Center in a separate building on campus.
