40 PRECISION MEETS POISE The New Language of Appliances and Hardware

IN DESIGN, FEW SPACES CAPTURE THE BALANCE OF BEAUTY AND UTILITY as completely as the kitchen and bath. They are rooms of daily ritual and personal expression—places where craftsmanship, innovation, and material honesty converge to shape how we live. This issue of The Essential Guide to Kitchen & Bath, celebrates that intersection of form and function, offering a refined look at the elements that define contemporary living.

From Marmol Radziner’s seamless architectural storytelling to Chic Design Group’s Italian artistry, we explore how designers reimagine the familiar with new levels of sophistication and purpose. The selections in Precision Meets Poise reveal the evolving language of performance and luxury—where advanced engineering by Gaggenau and Dacor meets the sculptural presence of Kallista and House of Rohl. And in Surface Matters, the artistry of materials takes center stage— from the luminous veining of Pietra Fina’s marble to the handcrafted rhythm of Zellij Gallery’s Moroccan tilework.
Across every page, the theme is clarity: a return to essential values—authentic materials, lasting design, and the human touch behind every detail. These kitchens and baths are more than curated spaces; they are studies in restraint and refinement, revealing that true luxury resides not in excess, but in intention.
As we navigate the shifting boundaries of technology and tradition, this issue offers inspiration for those who design, build, and inhabit spaces with vision. Whether you are an architect, interior designer, or devoted design enthusiast, we invite you to rediscover what is essential.
Thank you to our partners who contributed to this edition and our loyal readers for your continued support.

FROM CRAFTED KITCHENS TO SCULPTURAL BATHS AND ARCHITECTURAL ARTISTRY, THESE DESIGN STUDIOS REDEFINE LIVING SPACES THROUGH INNOVATION, INTEGRITY, AND MATERIAL POETRY
EXPLORING THE SEAMLESS INTERPLAY between craftsmanship and creativity, this collection celebrates visionary design—from Marmol Radziner’s organic modernism to Chic Design’s Italian precision, Butler Armsden’s timeless architectural detailing, and The Wiseman Group’s serene approach to luxury.

The Wiseman Group, an iconic San Francisco design firm, is celebrated for its meticulous attention to detail and a masterful balance between classical and contemporary aesthetics. Known for crafting environments that feel both timeless and deeply personal, the firm continues to set the standard for refined design excellence.
In this serene guest bath, Dover White marble from IRG wraps the walls and counters in understated luxury, while Amalfi Limestone flooring from Cooritalia adds tactile warmth. Polished Dornbracht fittings and sculptural sconces by Ozone Lighting enhance the tranquil ambiance. The vision was led by TWG President Paul Wiseman, Associate Design Director Luis Alves, and Interior Architect Mauricio Muñoz, in collaboration with Eric Hedlund Design LLC. A collaboration between Butler Armsden Architects and Studio Volpe, this meticulously designed bathroom exudes quiet luxury. The centerpiece is a custom-carved stone tub resting on a bespoke patterned floor composed of three types of limestone—each selected for its distinctive hue and natural beauty. The result is a composition that merges architectural precision with artisanal sensitivity. Photo: Joe Fletcher butlerarmsden.com

Innovation and craftsmanship define the work of the renowned firm Marmol Radziner. This open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area flows effortlessly to an expansive roof garden and pool, uniting architecture and landscape. Locally sourced Santa Barbara sandstone walls—some incorporating boulders found onsite—create a grounded, tactile envelope. Honed basalt countertops and backsplashes introduce an earthy contrast with subtle tonal variation, reinforcing the organic palette. Finely curated details include an Eric Roinestad vessel from The Future Perfect, a pendant by Smilow, and a ceramic piece from Lawson-Fenning, all complementing a custom banquette. A dining table, designed and produced by the Marmol Radziner fabrication team, anchors the composition with sculptural presence. Photo: Roger Davies marmol-radziner.com

Cabinetry is the true foundation of the kitchen—the element that defines structure, sets tone, and endures for decades. Unlike counters or appliances, cabinets are not easily replaced. Choosing a maker dedicated to authentic craftsmanship is what transforms a kitchen from functional to extraordinary.
DeWils Fine Cabinetry distinguishes itself as a true manufacturer, producing its own doors and moldings in-house rather than outsourcing. Each detail is carefully considered: panels are hand-sanded to achieve a flawless finish, stains are hand-rubbed to reveal the rich character of fine woods, and only the highest-quality materials are selected to ensure durability and strength.
This commitment to artistry and precision means every piece is as timeless as it is functional. For homeowners and designers alike, investing in DeWils is more than a design choice—it’s a lasting investment in the heart of the home, where craftsmanship and beauty endure for generations.

Nothing is more satisfying to Interior Designer Elaine Morrison than a client who presents her with a project that would turn a dream into a reality. In this remodel project her client always dreamt of having her own ensuite, a personal tranquil spa-like retreat to relax and recharge after a busy day.
This is where Elaine, calling on her many years of experience, went to work! It started by completely gutting the entire primary bath. The remodel included constructing an enclosed water closet with a frosted glass door, a spacious glass enclosed shower with a large bench seat, a rain shower, wall mounted and handheld showers. Elaine also believes in large niches placed at the client’s shoulder height for convenience. With a crystal chandelier over the soak tub, there is a relaxing view of nature through the large bay window overlooking the backyard. The soft cream tones contrast to the dark wood cabinetry in the vanity area and the two pendant lights add a simple yet elegant creative accent.
Meticulous planning, dedication to her client’s dreams and goals, and a passion for perfection are what Elaine brings to every Design Project.
