Houston movie maker, Producer and Director Shedrick Stokes, (pictured below) SCS Films and COO for SCS Films Renetha Thomas are moving forward on their new feature breast cancer awareness project “Joy Comes in the Morning” and are raising last minute funds before entering the production phase. A true story based on the book by Rebecca M. Shepard, the story follows a mother and daughter who are diagnosed, six months apart, with CANCER. The journey they take together brings out struggles, inspiration and love. In telling their story, the movie will take the audience into lives of six case histories to show that this medical condition knows no boundaries when it comes to race, gender, age or social status. Six case histories that follow the lives of several everyday people who are suddenly engaged in a life and death battle with CANCER, a disease set on winning. This formidable enemy can make itself known in subtle ways and can take over unless you are attentive to your own body. “Joy Comes in the Morning” is intended to increase the awareness you must have to your own body, the subtle ways that CANCER can develop and the steps you can take to give yourself a fighting chance against an enemy that takes no prisoners. Currently, SCS Films and the team are crowdfunding this project on GoFundMe.com, a fundraising website for personal causes and life-events. The campaign is “steaming” but they still need your support to assist the many throughout the communities who are suffering from cancer, so donations are being accepted. Part of the proceeds will be forwarded to the American Cancer Society. Any donation is accepted from a single dollar to millions. The choice is yours. SCS Films and “Joy Comes in the Morning” continue to collaborate with local hospitals throughout the Houston area in hopes of showcasing “CANCER awareness” to high risk communities across the area. According to Director Shedrick Stokes, “Joy Comes in the Morning will be media-premiered at the Landmark River Oaks Theater-Houston just in October, later this year and just in time for CANCER Awareness Month.
