“So I audition a lot, but it's not often that I come across a role in a production that really really really gets me excited. Getting the opportunity to even read for it is an honor, then to walk out of the audition and feel like you rocked it hard is a true blessing. However, the come down and disappointment is always so much worse when you realize that you were not chosen. It's the nature of the “biz” and you can't dwell on it. But damn...it sucks!” Actress Heather Williams

Mr. Ash Davito IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2725757/

C47Houston has a great job. WE get the fantastic opportunity to meet some outstanding people who want to make their mark and, hopefully, continue telling stories by creating a movie and presenting that movie to an audience. WE were invited to the Premiere of “Temp to Fire” at the Landmark River Oaks Theater and to be honest, we really hadn’t heard too much about the movie and we certainly didn’t know anything about its director, Ash Davito. What we did know was that “Temp to Fire”, a feature motion picture, was the first movie Mr. Davito has made. This was his directorial feature venture. Of course, we were skeptical about the production quality of a first time director and we were surprised to find that he made a very well made movie and a movie that, I believe, can resonate with a lot of people. WE were thrilled that this first time director accepted our interview offer. We are pleased to present...Director Ash Davito

C47Houston: Thank you sir for taking the time to answer a few questions for our followers. You are an actor turning into a filmmaker and directing your own project “Temp to Fire”, this will be your first movie and your directorial feature movie, at that. Why have you decided to transition to making movies instead of acting in them?

Mr. Davito: I chose to make the transition from actor to director because I’ve always been a writer at heart. As I continued to learn the “movie business” from an actor’s point of view I realized that actors were at the bottom of the food chain in this industry, unless you are a household name. I became more interested in making new stars verses hiring one. Also, I hated the fact of leaving my destiny in someone else’s hands when I could just grad the wheel, as it were, and take control. Waiting for that next audition or phone call for a “yes” or “no” just to be in someone else’s film.

C47Houston: Well, most people start making short movies to develop their skills and to learn through experience what it takes to make a movie and YOU have decided to tackle a major feature length motion picture endeavor as opposed to a simpler short movie. How does that happen?

I could give them a small role without ruining the continuity of my film. So, saying that I stayed pretty much on script. C47Houston: Was the movie based on fact or fiction?

Mr. Davito: “Temp To Fire” is a fiction movie that I created based

Mr. Davito: The reason I didn’t do a short film like most people do is

on general life experiences from comedy to romance.

because I have ten years of professional experience in the movie business. So naturally, I had more experience than most directors. As an actor I observed, learned and appreciated every position on movie set. Most importantly, I never desired to do a short film because I am sure of what I am capable of doing, with or without experience. I figured if I can produce a short I can produce a long. I took that leap of faith and I believe that I was successful in doing so.

C47Houston: As a first time director, with a feature length movie under your belt, as it were, and looking at the entire process you had to go through to make this movie, from a directors POV and, in your opinion, what are some of the more important aspects of the process that you learned about making a movie?

C47Houston: The ability to take that first step that “leap of faith” and make a movie has to be a major decision in anyone’s life. After all you are bringing a group of people together to make a movie. What do you say to people waiting to make a movie?

Mr. Davito: You know, for all the aspiring filmmakers waiting to make a movie I encourage you to START YOUR FILM AND FINISH IT. DO NOT wait on anyone because the end is just the beginning. Now you have to be able to market and you have to have a solid plan to push that film. Most people don’t start or finish because of the “fear of failure” or they are not dedicated to accomplishing their goals. Like the saying goes, “Just do it!” C47Houston: You wrote “Temp To Fire”. Did the feature movie follow the script or were there a lot of revisions or rewrites?

Mr. Davito: It was my personal goal to never have to go back and fix my script or film once completed. Actually, I set the bar high to make room for very little mistakes. I had no revisions in my script. I am the type of director that gives actors room to create and be a “true” talent. I required my actors to give me what’s in the script first then to give me whatever that wanted to with their character in the other takes. From there I ran with whatever worked best for the scene and moved forward. I also created new characters that were not in the script during the casting process. Some cast members had a unique talent so I knew

Mr. Davito: In my opinion as a director the most important part of this experience was to give opportunity to as many people as I could and to watch how each person handled that opportunity. I knew because of my experience that I was spoiling my cast members during this production. If you give an inexperienced talent a credible opportunity that jump-starts his or her career, everyone is not ready to handle the responsibility of being in this business. I, personally, rather have the right attitude over the great talent. The right attitude will follow my directions and always be eager to learn. With that and someday, they can be a huge star. C47Houston: Describe your particular directing style as it relates to cast and crew.

Mr. Davito: I describe my directing style as incensed…fun, yet result oriented. I’m a completely different person on set. My sets are family like environments. We pray, we laugh, we cry, but most importantly, we work hard so that we are getting closer to our dreams. People will only respect you based on the standards you set for yourself. I am everyone’s friend, but as a producer/director, I am also responsible for choosing the “right” people that create the kind of environment my cast and I can enjoy working in. C47Houston: We understand that you were the executive producer on “Temp To Fire”, as well. As an executive producer (and NOT a director or an actor), what are some of the things you learned about producing your first feature movie?

Mr. Davito: As an Executive Producer I learned that I am responsible for bringing this movie together successfully and making sure this film is as credible of a platform as it could possibly be for everyone involved. Again, I am responsible for hundreds of people getting closer to their dreams and heart desires. That doesn’t happen by working for just anyone. As I look at the 30 plus movies on my resume I can’t help but to ask, “Why are only 3 of them distributed nationally and on TV networks?” Simple answer is that those Executive Producers had experience and developed a solid plan to launch those 3 movies out into orbit from the very beginning. C47Houston: You selected an amazing cast of talented actors to be in your movie. Many times the cast don’t match or are mis-cast, but you managed to create an “ensemble”. This couldn’t have been a coincidence.

Mr. Davito: My amazingly assembled cast was not coincidence. I’m also the casting director; you have to have an eye for talent. The “Temp To Fire” movie cast consists of overlooked talent that’s been around Houston for years that have just been waiting for someone to give them an opportunity. Don’t get me wrong, I have an All-Star Cast of talent and some resumes are quite impressive. However, as the writer of this film…nobody knows the vision more than I do, even for the cast. Some characters were specifically created based on what I knew some actors where capable of pulling off. I think it worked rather well and they all did a fantastic job in their performances.

C47Houston: We were invited to see your movie and we thank you for that opportunity. We were impressed that, as a first time director making a feature movie, the movie was, itself, very well made. It is apparent that you took your time in making sure that you made a good movie and put it together very well for a viewing audience. How did you learn this stuff?

Mr. Davito: Although, I had an amazing team that contributed to this film, I, technically, assembled the cast and produced this entire project myself. Remember, I have ten years of professional experience so I knew from the very start exactly what I wanted to do and whom I wanted to do it with. I hired the best DP and Editor (which was the same person) I could find because those are two hats I have no interest in wearing. I knew that if I could get the right person on board to help bring this film to life that I was on to do something big. C47Houston: You wrote and directed a movie that was NOT gangster related, rap genre related, filled with drugs, sex, killing people and presented a movie about a struggling actor trying to maintain a theatre curriculum. What is your personal philosophy or opinion regarding the type of messages some people, not all, are delivering to an audience?

Mr. Davito: I believe that the “message” any artist puts out to the world is always instrumental in life whether it be an album, book or a movie. A simple “message” can change the world and help build or destroy our new generation. I wanted my “message” to be relatable while bringing inspiration and laughter to viewers of all ages and nationalities. I not too opinionated about the messages other artists convey because sometimes I just simply don’t understand where they are coming from or it’s a message I can’t relate to. That’s not to say they they’re doing anything wrong but the reality is many people are watching what messages we put out, even in how we carry ourselves off the screen. That alone brings about a certain responsible us creative talents have to be conscious of. C47Houston: What is next for “Temp of Fire”?

Mr. Davito: I have my sights on AMC, then eventually Netfilx, Redbox, and other networks and distribution outlets to prosper this platform as destiny catches up with time. C47Houston: From what we have seen, YOU are an asset for Houston’s filmmaking scene. What is next for Writer and Director Ash Davito?

Mr. Davito: I appreciate that C47Houston is considering me as “asset to Houston”. That is the ultimate objective. To raise the bar high and encourage other filmmakers to get the city involved with new projects. Me, personally, I’ve already written the sequel for “Temp To Fire” as well as a suspense horror animated “Car-toon” movie based on my children’s book (I selfpub-lished), called “Sunny & Star Elf”. I am also working a documentary about my neighborhood in Houston, a dance workout video and a television series that I am developing. Currently, I’m working on getting the funding ready and working out the budgets so that I can produce great quality film projects on a consistent basis. C47Houston: What is your personal opinion with regard to the Houston filmmaking scene AND, what would you change, if anything? OR, are you happy with it?

Mr. Davito: I personally think that Houston filmmakers don’t get enough of the talent in Houston and the...

City of Houston involved. As a director, now, I can understand that some things are easier said than done. The resources have to be in place, but that’s no excuse not to execute your plan and be resourceful. The Houston film community is small and broken into many circles that can sometimes rival against each other. WE ought to be helping each other instead of counter-acting each other. I don’t compare or compete. What’s for me is for me and just because I help someone reach his or her dreams does not mean I won’t reach mine. C47Houston: What is the hardest thing about making a movie?

Mr. Davito: I think the hardest thing about making a movie is to get to the point where you don’t need anything from anyone and you can be totally free to direct your vision. Also, it’s really hard to get so many different talents and personalities aligned with one purpose…to make a great film.

Professional Advice The Advice given is the advice and opionon of Actor, Producer and Director Ash Davito and does not refelect the advise or viewsof this publication or the producer at C47Houston News & Entertainment Magazine or C47Houston WEEKLY,

C47Houston: Last questions. Thank you very much for your time. Again, “Temp of Fire” is excellent movie. You have dabbled into making your own feature motion picture. You have experienced something that only a very few people will ever do. You have achieved, progressed and have had some discouraging moments, I am sure in making this movie, these are the things that make us better as we learn from out mistakes and learn from out successes. If you could pass along some advice about filmmaking to our younger and eager want to be filmmakers, what would you say?

Mr. Davito: I would say have faith and believe in yourself. If you believe in yourself, first, it makes it easier to deal with the many “No’s” you will get and the difficult times throughout the process of successfully completing a film. Once you believe in yourself it also gives you the strength to say, “To hell with other people’s opinion. This is my life, my movie, my vision, period.” Then move forward and go get it done. See you at the top or from the top. Website: www.DavitoFamilyPublishing.com

Director Joe Grisaffi and Writer/Producer Courtney Sandifer are raising funds through IndieGogo to help make their new family motion picture “Kids Vs. Zombies”. Written by Courtney Sandifer, the story follows a brother and sister team that work together to outwit a barrage of peculiar zombies, rescue their mother and save a town. Written to reflect her kids’ fascination with zombies, but in a way that her own kids (8 and 10) and other kids of the same age, could watch the movie without trauma or seeing a therapist, “Kids Vs. Zombies” will be gross but without the blood. Taking the traditional zombies and making them “kid-friendly” and most importantly...funny. Action will be full of wacky, slap-stick sort of “Home Alone” type traps and defense techniques. Casting continues and currently open. Raising funds through IndieGoGo, the production team has a goal of 12.5k. As of publication they have raised just a little under 2k, but have 15 days to go on their crowdfunding campaign. “Kids Vs. Zombies” will be directed by Houston’s Joe Grisaffi. He is

Actor, Producer and now Director Ash Davito and Davito Family Films premiered their new feature comedy motion picture “Temp To Fire” Thursday, October 1st at the Landmark River Oaks Theater. The movie brought in a theater full of people to see a movie about a struggling actor who takes a temporary teaching job at his old school’s theater department. At the risk of terminating the department the “Actor” has only one chance to impress school officials. C47Houston was invited to the premiere and we took some pictures. We are working on a FlixReview. That review should be released sometime in November. Stay tuned for that. Actor turned director Mykle McCoslin, Writer Amelia Ornelas and the Ricornel Productions company are on the final push to raise funds on the crowdfunding site KickStarter to help produce their new “female” horror/comedy short motion picture “ZomBFFs”. Written by Amelia Ornelas and based on a short script and short movie called “Secrets Among Friends” and in order to appeal to a larger demographic audience, the script was reworked and rewritten to include a horror element. The story follows a group of women who have known each other since they were children. When one of them passes away they decide to stage an impromptu séance for laughs and accidentally bring an old friend back from the dead. “I wrote this script after years of reading breakdowns that read more about the physicality of the female characters rather than their actual characters (ie: hot moms, sexy girlfriends, young mother),” explains writer and producer Amelia Ornelas, “so I decided if I wanted to see breakdowns that were different, I should then create these breakdowns that were different.”
