Connect Time Week 1: Blessed SCRIPTURE Read the scripture together, using your Bible or one of the kids’ Bibles. - Jesus' disciples gathered around him, 2 and he taught them: 3 God blesses those people who depend only on him. They belong to the kingdom of heaven!4 God blesses those people who grieve. They will find comfort! 5 God blesses those people who are humble. The earth will belong to them! 6 God blesses those people who want to obey him[c] more than to eat or drink. They will be given what they want!7 God blesses those people who are merciful. They will be treated with mercy! 8 God blesses those people whose hearts are pure. They will see him! 9 God blesses those people who make peace. They will be called his children! 10 God blesses those people who are treated badly for doing right. They belong to the kingdom of heaven.” – Mathew 5:1b-10
TALK ABOUT IT 1. Can you think of another word that means blessed? (Happy, lacking nothing we need.) 2. Why do you think that it is important to obey God? 3. Read the scripture – go through what each part means… 4. God Blesses those who’s hearts are a word beginning with P (Pure) what do you think that means? 5. Can you think of a time where you were grieving or sad? How did God comfort you? 6. What is a way in your family that you can make peace?
APPLY IT YOU’LL NEED: • get the children to sit in a circle EXPLAIN: 1. There are two triangles that match together one with a heart symbol on it and the other with a star symbol on it. You need to match them together. They are the beatitudes – such as “God blesses those people who grieve,” goes with, “They will find comfort.” 2. It’s a race- so the leader will need to time it.
