Bite & Your Voice Matters
This month marks one full year since we launched BWT Connect — a monthly newsletter created to keep our team informed, engaged, and inspired. What began as a simple way to connect our locations and departments has grown into a powerful communication tool that reflects who we are and where we’re going.
Over the past 12 months, BWT Connect has proudly featured:
12+ BWT locations across the U.S.
30+ employee spotlights and shoutouts
Countless safety tips, career resources, and company updates
But most importantly, it’s helped bring visibility to the everyday work that powers our operations — from our forklift drivers and clerks to our supervisors, safety teams, and support staff.
As we celebrate this milestone, we’re reminded that communication is more than just sharing updates — it’s about building trust, strengthening culture, and recognizing the people who make BWT what it is. BWT Connect is more than a newsletter; it’s a reflection of our values, our teamwork, and our commitment to growth.
Thank you to every team member who reads, contributes, and lives the mission. Your stories, feedback, and dedication have made this newsletter a success — and we’re just getting started.
Here’s to Year Two: more voices, more visibility, and more momentum. Let’s keep it moving.
What We’ve Learned
Every team has a story worth telling.
A strong culture doesn’t happen by accident — it’s built through shared information, recognition, and transparency.
Listening matters. Many of our newsletter ideas came directly from employee feedback — and it’s shaped how we communicate across the company.

SAFETY FIRST
Back-to-School Safety Tips for Truck Drivers
As summer winds down and store shelves fill with school supplies, it’s clear that back-to-school season is here. This time of year brings unique challenges for truck drivers, especially around school zones, buses, and student drivers.
Safety Basics Still Apply
Even during this busy season, the fundamentals of safe driving remain critical. Drivers should continue to:
Minimize distractions
Monitor speed
Watch for pedestrians
Plan routes carefully
Expect traffic delays
Practice patience
School Zones
School zones typically extend 1–2 blocks beyond school property and are marked by signs, flashing lights, and speed bumps. Speed limits usually range from 15–25 mph. Drivers should slow down, stay alert, and avoid these areas during peak times if possible.
School Buses
Bus drivers carry a heavy responsibility— transporting dozens of children safely each day. Truck drivers can support them by:
Keeping a safe following distance
Never cutting in front of a bus
Always stopping when a bus does
Watching for children at bus stops
Being patient during loading and unloading
Each state has specific laws about stopping for school buses, so it’s important to review local regulations along your route.
Student Drivers
Many high schools offer driver’s education programs, meaning student drivers may be on the road during school hours. These vehicles are often marked and should be given extra space and patience. Stay alert and be ready to react defensively if needed.
At BWT, we know our drivers are among the best on the road. Let’s continue to lead by example and help ensure a safe start to the school year for students, families, and educators alike.

WELLNESS & SELF-CARE
The Refuel Station
For Our Drivers on the Road
The 5-Minute Reset: During your next stop, take five minutes to do some simple in-cab stretches. Gently roll your neck from side to side, shrug your shoulders up to your ears and release, and twist your torso gently. This helps relieve stiffness from sitting.
Pack a Power-Up: Instead of relying solely on truck stop snacks, try packing a small cooler with healthy, energy-boosting options like nuts, fruit, cheese sticks, or protein bars. Better fuel for you means better focus on the road.
For Our Team in the Warehouse
Bookend Your Shift with Stretches: Your work is physical! Take 3-5 minutes before your shift for dynamic stretches (like arm circles and leg swings) to warm up your muscles. After your shift, do static stretches (holding a position for 20-30 seconds) to help prevent soreness.
The Hydration Habit: Make it a habit to stop for a drink of water every time you complete a major task or walk by a water station. Staying hydrated is one of the most important ways to maintain your energy and safety.
For Our Staff in the Office
Practice the 20-20-20 Rule: To combat digital eye strain, look away from your screen every 20 minutes at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. Your eyes will thank you!
Schedule a "Walk & Talk": If you have a phone call that doesn't require you to be at your desk, take it on the move. A quick walk around the office or even outside can break up long periods of sitting and boost your energy.
A Minute for Your Mind: A Tip for Everyone
Feeling stressed or overwhelmed? Try this simple breathing exercise called "Box Breathing."
1.Breathe in slowly through your nose for a count of 4.
2.Hold your breath for a count of 4.
3.Exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of 4.
4.Hold your breath again for a count of 4.
Repeat this 3-4 times. It’s a powerful way to calm your nervous system in just one minute. Your health is your greatest asset. We encourage you to try incorporating just one of these small habits into your routine this week.

WORKPLACE WISDOM
BWT Boost: Skill of the Month
Welcome to BWT Boost, a new section dedicated to helping us all sharpen our professional skills! Each month, we’ll focus on one key skill that can help us work smarter, safer, and more effectively as a team.
This month’s skill is: Clear & Concise Communication
In logistics, every detail matters. Clear and concise communication is the essential lubricant that keeps the gears of our operation turning smoothly. It prevents errors, enhances safety, and saves valuable time. When we communicate clearly, we build trust with each other and with our customers. This month, let’s focus on how we can make every word count.
Putting It Into Practice
For Our Drivers on the Road:
Master the 3 C’s on the Radio: When communicating with dispatch, be Calm, Clear, and Concise. State your name/truck number, location, and the key information first. Confirm with Confidence: Before ending a call, quickly repeat key details like addresses, pickup numbers, or specific instructions. A simple, "Confirming my next stop is 123 Main Street," can prevent a major mistake.
For Our Team in the Warehouse:
Perfect the Handoff: At a shift change, clearly communicate the status of any ongoing tasks. Instead of "I worked on the ABC order," try "The first pallet for the ABC order is wrapped and ready at Bay 7; the second needs to be built."
Clarity Over Noise: In a loud environment, use simple, direct language and make eye contact to ensure your message is received. Use standard hand signals for equipment operation to avoid confusion.
For Our Staff in the Office:
Use the "BLUF" Method: Bottom Line Up Front. Start your emails with the most important information or the question you need answered. Your colleagues will appreciate getting the main point immediately without having to search for it.
Action-Oriented Language: When sending requests or recapping meetings, be specific. Instead of "Let's handle this," try "Sarah will send the updated report to the client by 3 PM on Friday."
Your Skill-Building Challenge for the Month:
Practice "The 3-Second Rule." Before you speak, send an email, or make a radio call, take just three seconds to ask yourself: "What is the single most important thing this person needs to know?" Leading with that will make your communication more powerful and effective.
Let's work together to make our communication our competitive advantage!
"EXCELLENCE IS NOT A SKILL, IT'S AN ATTITUDE. WHEN WE SHOW UP WITH PURPOSE, WE LIFT THE WHOLE TEAM."
