Celebrating a Century of Parks, People, and Purpose
The Parks and Recreation Department invites you to Celebrate A Century of Community: Parks, People, and Purpose! For 100 years, the Department has fostered community through various programs, events, and activities. The Department's commitment to the community dates to its establishment in 1925. It all began with the dedication of the city's first park, Vickroy Park. Today, the department proudly operates 42 parks and facilities that serve the community.
As the Department reflects on the last 100 years, we continue to focus on our mission statement, “Together, we strive to be the heart of the community by providing enriching opportunities through dedicated people, beautiful parks, and inspiring programs.” With our mission in mind, we strive to honor our Department's legacy, current efforts, and plans for the future.
The Department's year-long celebration kicks off in January 2025! This celebration will include exciting events and activities designed to highlight the various ways that the Department has contributed to the lives of Burbank residents from all backgrounds and interests. Our commitment to building community is felt throughout our parks and shared open spaces, which provide safe, beautiful, and multifunctional parks, recreation and community centers, ballfields, playgrounds, and so much more. The Department's continued effort to enhance open spaces has evolved with the needs of the vibrant Burbank community. The unique makeup of the residents who visit our parks and facilities provides us with the inspiration to keep growing. As we celebrate the last 100 years, we also celebrate YOU, the residents who continue to participate in our programs and activities. As we celebrate this important milestone, we encourage the community to get involved in our upcoming events and activities which have been thoughtfully planned with our community's interest in mind.
