INTO ACTION!

Spring is the perfect time to try something new and reconnect with your community. The Burbank Parks and Recreation Department (Department) invites you to get active, meet new people, and enjoy a full season of programs, classes, and events throughout the city. From volunteering and adult 55+ activities to sports leagues, recreation classes, and family-friendly events, there is something for every age and interest. Our spring offerings are designed to bring people together, support wellness, and make getting involved easy and fun. Explore what’s happening this season and find your next way to spring into action.

BURBANK VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

ADULT 55+ PROGRAMMING

The Burbank Volunteer Program (BVP) is a City of Burbank program that connects local volunteers with nonprofit and public organizations throughout the community. Whether you’re completing high school servicelearning requirements, have a few spare hours each month, or are recently retired and looking to give back, BVP helps match you with opportunities that fit your interests and availability. Volunteer opportunities include park cleanups, tree planting events, delivering meals to homebound older adults, and much more. Turn to page 55 to explore current volunteer opportunities and find the perfect way to get involved.

The Department proudly operates two older adult centers: Joslyn Adult Center and Tuttle Senior Center. Both centers are dedicated to providing engaging services, enriching activities, and connections to valuable community resources. Daily programs such as chair yoga, karaoke, Bingo, and more help older adults stay active, social, and connected. In addition, monthly day trips offer opportunities to explore new places, enjoy fresh experiences, and stay on the move. To learn more about Older Adult programming, visit BurbankCA.gov/Adults55.

CLASSES SPORTS

Burbank’s Recreation Centers are home to hundreds of engaging recreation classes designed for all ages and interests. Whether you’re looking to stay physically active, explore your creative side, or learn a new skill like coding, there’s something for everyone. These diverse offerings give participants the opportunity to build new skills and connect with fellow community members. Classes are offered at various times throughout the day and week, making it easy to fit learning and fun into even the busiest schedules. With new classes introduced several times a year, there’s always something exciting to try. Turn to page 24 to discover which class you’ll be taking this spring!

Do you want to join a sports league or simply play a sport in your free time? We’ve got you covered! The Department’s Sports Office coordinates a wide variety of adult and youth leagues each season to meet the needs of Burbank’s active community. New sports, clinics, summer camp offerings, adaptive sports, and leagues are continually added, providing new opportunities for participants of all skill levels. For those who love sports but can’t commit to a full league, drop-in programs offer a flexible and fun alternative. Enjoy activities such as basketball, dodgeball, volleyball, and more throughout the year. To learn more about upcoming sports offerings, turn to page 16 or visit BurbankCA.gov/Sports.

Bertha

Bertha LOVES to play fetch! This girl could undoubtedly go for hours, and she is an exceptional playmate. She will fetch her toy, drop it at your feet, and never try to grab it back while you’re picking it up. She knows sit and lie down and seems to be very obedient and loving. She’s super friendly, and we think she would be a wonderful companion for an active person who loves to play with their dog. Bertha is a 5-yearold, Labrador Retriever and Mastiff mix and has been at the Shelter for a year and a half.

Bruce

Bruce has been at the Shelter a little over a year. He was quite a sight upon arrival, with just patches of hair, irritated skin, and sad eyes. The staff and volunteers have loved him, medicated him, worked with him, hiked with him, and fostered him, and we can honestly say that he is a fabulous dog. He will need to stay on a specific diet to keep his allergies under control, but otherwise pretty low maintenance. Bruce is now recovered, has grown some new fur and ready to find his forever home!
