Volunteer opportunities include park cleanups, tree planting events, delivering meals to homebound older adults, and much more. Turn to page 55 to explore current volunteer opportunities and find the perfect way to get involved.

The Department proudly operates two older adult centers: Joslyn Adult Center and Tuttle Senior Center. Both centers are dedicated to providing engaging services, enriching activities, and connections to valuable community resources. Daily programs such as chair yoga, karaoke, Bingo, and more help older adults stay active, social, and connected. In addition, monthly day trips offer opportunities to explore new places, enjoy fresh experiences, and stay on the move. To learn more about Older Adult programming, visit BurbankCA.gov/Adults55.

kitten's best chance for survival is staying with mom. If you come across a kitten or litter of kittens remember the rule of 8

• If mom is away more than 8 hours, the kittens are likely orphaned and in need of human care.
• Encourage mom to return. Do not hover and maintain a distance of at least 8 feet.
• At 8 weeks old, kittens (and mom) should be spayed/ neutered and can be adopted.

Bertha

Bertha LOVES to play fetch! This girl could undoubtedly go for hours, and she is an exceptional playmate. She will fetch her toy, drop it at your feet, and never try to grab it back while you’re picking it up. She knows sit and lie down and seems to be very obedient and loving. She’s super friendly, and we think she would be a wonderful companion for an active person who loves to play with their dog. Bertha is a 5-yearold, Labrador Retriever and Mastiff mix and has been at the Shelter for a year and a half.
Bruce

Bruce has been at the Shelter a little over a year. He was quite a sight upon arrival, with just patches of hair, irritated skin, and sad eyes. The staff and volunteers have loved him, medicated him, worked with him, hiked with him, and fostered him, and we can honestly say that he is a fabulous dog. He will need to stay on a specific diet to keep his allergies under control, but otherwise pretty low maintenance. Bruce is now recovered, has grown some new fur and ready to find his forever home!
