Marching Band & Color Guard Edition
Director’s Note
On this coming Saturday in Merced the 2018 competitive marching season will officially draw to a close. Mr. Cardona and Myself would like to give out heartfelt thanks to all of the parent volunteers who have given their times to these students whether it be as uniform fitters, chaperones, driving trucks and trailers, pushing pit equipment, feeding our students or working booths at Fresno State games, Save Mart Center Events and selling Berrocks and Jamba Juice cards. We are grateful that you have taken the time to commit to the betterment of our band program and the success of these young students. The band has taken huge steps in a new and more positive direction over the last three and half months, the growth by the students as rehearsers and performers is truly astounding. I cannot but into words how happy I am to come into work and spend my day with these amazing young people. Thank you to all of the parents and families who work to make sure these students are here and can achieve and grow. Even though marching band is over, we still have a lot of work to do this year. Our winter programs will begin as soon as possible, and it is important that all of the students and parents who will be involved in those programs take advantage of the numerous and extremely lucrative fundraising opportunities that our fundraising chair Lisa Peacock has gone above and beyond to provide for us. These include concerts at the Save Mart Center where you can make almost half of the fundraising goal for the year in one night, there are several Fresno
State football games coming up that have a chance at bringing in a tremendous amount of money for the programs. The goal of the fundraising is that we meet our final budget numbers for the year, and even exceed them. Myself, Mr. Cardona and the Band Backer Board do our best to build all of the expenses for all of the programs into the yearly budget. If we have everyone in the band meet the fundraising goal, all of the programs will be completely paid for. It is important that we all take ownership of our financial part of the program so that we are able to afford to continue offering these students the experiences that we have planned. As a reminder to everyone, auditions for the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic band will be happening on Tuesday, Novemebr 13th during our Band and Percussion periods. Music has been passed out to the students, please check the window of the band office for specifics on what to play. All auditions are final once they have been posted. We are happy to discuss the students placement, but once the auditions ave been posted they will not be revisited for the year. So take the time to practice your audition music and you will get the results that you earn. Also, our audition music is the audition music for the Fresno Madera County Music Educators Association All County Honor Band. We encourage every student to go out and audition for a chance to perform with the best of the best in Fresno and Madera Counties, under the direction of Dr. Alicia Neal, Director of Bands at Eastern Illinois State University. The cost of auditioning is $20 and the

WE NEED A NEW TREASURER for the Bullard Band Backers
Ten years as a parent in the Bullard Marching Band & Color Guard and eight of those as treasurer is a long time, but hardly a Guinness record. Lisa Megerdichian’s three band students have come and gone, and now it’s time for her to “go silently into that good night.”
So that means that she needs someone to take on this important job of keeping track and reporting all the money that comes through and goes out of the Bullard Band Backers, a non-profit entity. The plan is to split her duties between
two people, one Treasurer Assistant to enter CHARMS fundraising credits and payments; and the other who will be an executive board member as Treasurer to handle the funds and accounting. Please search your hearts and let Lisa Megerdichian know if you’d like to train to become the next treasurer. We need the person to start training this spring. Please email Lisa Megerdichian at hyemeg@sbcglobal.net and let her know if you’re interested. The great thing is most of this job is done at home on your own time and pace. No call time!
Move-Up Day Performance is Nov 14th On November 14th, Bullard High School will be hosting it’s Annual “Move Up Day”. All 900 8th graders from Tenaya, Bullard TALENT, Wawona and Baird will be coming o Bullard (in two waves of 450) to see everything that they will have the opportunity to take part in when they become Knights in Fall 2019. The Marching Band and Color Guard will be performing our complete field
show for the students that morning. We will have the band and color guard students excused from their 1st through 4th period classes so that they are able to be part of this performance. We will be performing at 10:20am and 11:20am. This is a great opportunity for our band to expose what we do to the students who will be joining us at Bullard next year.
SAVE THE DATE! WINTER CONCERT DATE SET FOR DEC 13 It’s almost time for our Annual Winter Concert on Thursday, December 13 at 7 pm. Be sure to invite all of your family, friends, and teachers and join us in the BHS North Gym for a wonderful evening of good music. Concert attire will be concert black. Please refer to the band handbook for details.
We will have our four Universal Studios Tickets Grand Prize drawing along with many other prizes raffled off during the concert. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Cargill or Mr. Cardona. We hope to see all of our band and colorguard families at the concert. See you on December 13.
Uniform Return Set for 11/14 All uniforms must be returned IN THERE ENTIRETY on Wednesday, November 14th after our performance for the 8th Grade Move Up Day. All uniform parts must be in their bags, and will be hung on the racks after the performance. Required Parts: 1. Pants 2. Jacket 3. Gauntlets (both of them) 4. Shako 5. Shako Slip Cover All of the above items must be present when your uniform is turned in. You are financially responsible for any lost or damaged items on the uniform when it is returned. SHOES and SHIRTS You must take your shoes and shirt with you when you turn in your uniform. Any shoes or shirts that are left in the uniform bags will be considered donations to the Bullard Band Program. Color Guard You need to keep your uniform as it will be the winter guard uniform this year. Please see washing instructions from Sarah Spradling and clean your uniform before the winter guard season begins.

FALL REGISTRATION WAS DUE 10/31/18! PLEASE HELP US BREAK EVEN ON OUR BUDGET! WE STILL NEED ANOTHER $4,000 TO BREAK EVEN! The final balance for Fall Registration after the credits for the Fireworks Vouchers and Grizzly Fest was due by 10/31/18 to get your $25 discount. I will extend the due date to tomorrow 11/2/18 to get your final payments of $150 in. The registration pays for items your student directly receives (bus transportation, chuckwagon food, music, & show shirts.) Easiest way to pay: Go to www.bullardband.com/ shop to make your final payment. Or, send your check or cash in a labeled envelope and drop it in the band room safe. Thank you to those who have paid their fall registration! We thank you for your support!
Making Payments • Cash, Check, Money Order – place in envelope with student name & reason for payment (Fall Registration, Shoes, Car Wash tickets, etc.) then drop in safe located in band room. • Credit Card through PayPal – go to www. bullardband.com and click “Shop” for more information • Please do not lump payments together for multiple items. Write a separate check for each payment you are making (fundraisers, Fall Registration, CG shoes). • Please make sure funds are available in your account, since fundraising checks may take time to post once the fundraiser is completed. Your check will be cashed, I promise we won’t forget it. If you have a question about your check, email hyemeg@ sbcglobal.net.

What does all this fundraising pay for?
The Bullard Band Backers, the booster club which you are a member of (because your student is in the band or color guard), has its own budget, income and expenses of things we have to pay for which Fresno Unified does not provide, for example:
• Instructor Pay – your students enjoy additional instruction and more individual attention from the 10 instructors you see working with them in the classroom and on the field. • Trailer Transportation – It takes a professional driver to pull Big Blue around all year for competitions, games and winter program events. • Marching, Winter, & Concert Season Competition and Festival Entry Fees – It costs money to enter in all these events as participants. • Color Guard Uniforms – Each year we purchase new costumes to make our guard look great on the field. • Color Guard Equipment – Each year
we purchase new flags, poles and other equipment our guard use in competition and parade. • Front Ensemble Equipment and Trailer Repairs – the Band Backers owns the trailer and equipment we use to carry around your student’s instruments and supplies to each competition and festival. We have to spend our own funds to keep up these items for the safety and ease of use by your students. • Winter Programs – Color Guard and Front Ensemble participate in additional competitive events post-marching season which requires its own expenses for costuming, props and supplies. This is why we need ALL OF YOU to help us fundraise to meet all of our financial obligations for this year, while your students are enjoying an amazing, life-changing experience with their life-long friends! If you have any questions, you can email Lisa Meg at hyemeg@sbcglobal.net.

EXCEEDING YOUR GOALS? IS YOUR NAME ON GREAT JOB AND THIS LIST?? WE NEED YOUR MARCHING OUR THANKS!! After reviewing your statement that will be emailed to you, you may notice that you’ve already exceeded your goal for the year. AWESOME!! We thank you for your tireless efforts and commitment to make your student’s experience in the Marching Band & Color Guard GREAT!! So now what happens? • Excess credits will go first to any remaining Fall Registration left unpaid • Excess credits can be used to apply to the Winter Programs charges yet to be determined • Excess credits can be used to help another student achieve their goal – you may email me if you have a student in mind to assist.
Please don’t let it stop here. Your continued amazing fundraising successes help us fund other students in our program who are less fortunate and cannot for whatever reason meet their goals. Our budget is set regardless of how many reach their goal, so we still need your support and your fundraising expertise. Please continue to sign up for events and sell our products to help us pay the expenses that benefit all our students, including yours! Thank you again for all your hard work and dedication to this program.

BAND SPONSORSHIPS DEADLINE FRIDAY 11/9
We have extended the sponsorship deadline to November 9. Please turn in your sponsorships by that date to be included in this year’s poster.
We have several different sponsorships to offer. The Director’s Circle, which includes donations of $1,000 and greater, will receive their names and/or logos on all of our trailers, programs, poster, newsletters, Facebook and website. There are five other levels ranging from
$150 to $750. All sponsorships will be credited to the person who brought it in, less expenses. Many employers have in place sponsor programs for their employees so check with your HR department and see what’s available. Others will match contributions by you. Bullard High School, especially our Marching Band, is a big part of this community and many alumni are business owners who would love to contribute. All you have to do is ask!
FSU VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR 2, MAYBE 3 GAMES
Fresno State Football will have games for two consecutive Saturdays, November 17 and November 24, which means our beer stand and concession stand will need volunteers. A third consecutive Saturday is possible if the Bulldogs keep winning and host the Championship game. On November 17, call time is 5 pm. We don’t have a game time for Saturday, November 24 yet. These next few games are expected to have huge attendance if the weather stay nice, so that means very busy stands! Adults will need to be TIPS or LEAD trained, and have proof of training on file with Lisa Peacock, to work the beer stand, but not in the food booth. The beer stand requires 9 volunteers and the food
stand requires 18 volunteers. In the food stand, priority is given to students over adults because this is the one concession stand they can work. Go to BullardBand.com, click on the Fundraising tab, then FSU Concessions to sign up. Contact Lisa Peacock at 3077590 if you have questions or having trouble signing up online. Email LEAD or TIPS cards to lisapeacock8@icloud. com.

Your purchase of Berrocks not only satisfies your taste buds, but also supports a longstanding Bullard High School tradition: Excellence in Music! $25.00 per dozen - be sure to pre-order early before they sell out!
