Wood Treoting Men lo Meet in Son Froncisco, Jonuory 16-17

Executive officers representing major wood'treating companies in Oregon, Washington, California and Montana will convene at the Clift Hotel in San Francisco, January 16 and 17, {or the annual meeting of the Western Wood Preserving Operators Association, per announcement from President R. A. Thurston of the Baxter Wyckoff Company, Seattle, Washington.

Major topic will be the development of a more effective industrypide promotional program;

Election of officers for 1963 will also be held.

Dromtic Seo Rescue from Lumber Ship

All 24 crewmen of the Alaska Cedar were saved on December 3 after a dramatic two-hour rescue from their grounded vessel amid breakers reported to be twice the height of the 2500-ton vessel. The 256-foot lumber ship was grounded Sunday in shallow water near the jetty ofr Coos Bay, Oregon, after losing power as it' put out to sea,

As huge breakers swept into the ship, a helicopter, hoverin$ low enough to be hit by a wave, dropped a line to crewmen. Coast Guardsmen anchored the 200-foot line and the sailors were brought off the ship one by one in a basket rig.
