Fqrnsworth ond CRA Executives Spreod Out to ''Sell' Redwood
As an important part of the promotional program of the California Redwood Association, Philip T. Farnsworth, executive vice-president, and division heads of the association are spending 30 days "on the road" as ambassadors of the redwood industry. Farnsworth went to Chicago for an advisory conference with the eastern and mid-western sales managers of member companies October 23. With him was Owen T. Stebbins, head of the Promotion division, Willard E. Pratt, head of the Technical and Research division, and Bernarr Bates, publicity director of the association. Farnsworth will do field contact work in Rochester, Buffalo, and Boston areas, continuing on to New York, where Stebbins will join him to meet with member mill representatives, call on specifiers and architectural and home service magazines.

In mid-November, Farnsworth and Selwyn J. Sharp, secretary of the association, were to attend the annual meeting of the National Lumber Manufacturers Association in Washington, D.C. Then Farnsworth will attend the annual meeting of the American Forest Products Industries, fnc., in Washington and Sharp will attend the meeting of the American Lumber Standards Committee. Pratt will make field calls in connection with natural finish and cooling tower studies in St. Louis, Houston and Phoenix on his way back to San Francisco from Chicago.

Landenberger, CRA representative in Eureka, recently returned to San Francisco after calling on architects, wholesalers, retailers, and landscape architects in several market areas of Illinois and lowa.

A time study of the trade promotional activities of the staff of the California Redwood Association reveals that an average of. 50/o of their time is spent in areas east of the Rockies, representing the redwood lumber industry-calling on architects, specifiers, and users of redwood.

October Figures Show L. A. Headed for New | 956 Building Record
Construction in the city of Los Angeles is certain to set a new record in 1956, General Manager G. E. Morris of the Building and Safety Department predicted earlier this month. City figures for October showed. 5365 permits totaling $37,433,124. City building in the year's first 10 months totaled $404,996,25, compared to a l2-months total last year of $433,455,885.
County Engineer John A. Lambie rvould not make similar forecast for Los Angeles County but did say that construction is mounting rapidly again. County figures for October were 4079 permits at $D,124,834, compared to $22,236,7W in the same month of 1955. $r.
