fnstallation of the new Finger Joiner by Martin Bros. Container & Timber Products Corp., Compton, Calif., was completed last month, according to Orval Paul, manager of the wholesale lumber division of the concern.
The new unit of equipment was purchased from the Industrial Machinery Corporation, Dallas, Texas, at a cost exceeding $50,000, it was said. The new joiner has a 40,000ft. capacity per shift and will handle material up to and including 2x8 in size.
Operating personnel at the Compton plant was increased by 15 men when the joiner was placed in operation. The machinery will be used exclusively to manufacture jambs, mouldings and trim for the Southern California market. Martin Bros. presently operates one of the largest remanufacturing mills in the Southland.
"We believe in the conservation of forest products," Paul declared, "and with this new unit of machinery we reduce waste to a minimum."

Washington, D. C.-The National Retail Lumber Dealers Assn. reports that the fnterstate Commerce Commission has set up a schedule of hearings on the increased demurrage charges proceedings. These include one in San Francisco, Dec. 10-11-12, in the Federal Office Bldg., Civic Center, Fulton and Leavenworth streets, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The hearings wil be open and any party at interest may appear and testify.

A new branch operation has just been opened by United States Plywood Corporation at Santa Ana, California, according to Fred B. Smales, vice-president and West Coast regional manager. The branch, rvhich includes a warehouse and office, has 16,200 square feet of floor space. fn establishing the new unit, provision was made for a lW/o future expansion. The building, a onestory structure at 1124 Seventeenth Street, is of reinforced concrete. It is served by a railroad siding and a loading dock for truck accommodation.
Ukiah, Calif.-Russell H. Ells of Willits has been named a member of the State Board of Forestry by Gov. Knight, succeeding Robert W. Matthews, Eureka. Ells is president of Willits Redwood Products Co. and was president of the California Redwood Assn. many years.
