A. M. Batliner, formerly sales representa- tive for Longrlgll Lumber Co., has joined Owens-Parks Lumber Co., Los Angeles, as lumber purchasing agent for Douglas fir and redwood. He will also act as assistant to President C. R. Melin.

Byrn McDowell, formerly in the hardwood department of Owens-Parks Lumber Co., Los Angeles, has joined the sales staff of W. B. Jones Lumber Co., Los Angeles.

J. J. Rea of Los Angeles has been appointed southern California sales agent for Arcata Redwood Co.

W'arren Handley, formerly with Van Arsdale-Harris Lumber Co., San Francisco, for eight years, is now a salesman in the industrial department of Hammond Lumber Co., I"os Angeles.

I)on Doud, associated with the wholesale lumber business in Los Angeles for the past several years, was honored at a goingaway party at the Jonathan Club. He is returning to the Northwest where he will manage the Defiance Lumber Co. plant at Tacoma, Wash.

Phil Gosslin, salesman for the past six years with James L. Ilall, San Francisco wholesale lumber dealer, is now with the Gorman Lumber Co.. San Francisco.

Guy E. Smith, who has been in charge of the Los Angeles office of Rockport Redwood Co., has moved to San Francisco to become active in the Rounds Trading Co. He was succeeded by F. A. "Pete" Toste, formerly with MacDonald & Harrington, Los Angeles.

W. Roy Lindsay, Lindsay Lumber Co., Hynes, Calif., has been named one of the lieutenant g'overnors in the California-Nevada Kiwanis district for 1940.

J. W. "BiIl" Back of the Back ,Panel Co.. Los Angeles, and Mrs. Back have returned from a 10-day trip to San Francisco where they saw the fair and visited friends.

W. N. Baker, Woodland Lumber Co., Woodland, Calif., was one of the winners in the recent contest sponsored by the Red Cedar Shingle Bureau for the best promotion idea for the sale of Certigrade shingles.

W. Vannote has been named manager of the Diamond Match Co. yard at Auburn, Calif. He has been with the company 10 years and was formerly manager of their yard at Live Oak, Calif.

Fred Miller, formerly manager of the Tahoe Sugar Pine Co., has taken a position with Clare Brothers Lumber Co.. North Sacramento,

Tom O'Connor has been named to manage the newly-opened Stern-Brill Lumber & Wrecking 'Co., El Monte, Calif. The location was formerly occupied by the El Monte Builders Supply.

Fred and Carl Jaekle, operators of the Jaekle Brothers planing mill in Napa, Calif., have purchased the property on which their business is located.

R. H. Gurney, Dixie Lumber & S.upply Co., San Diego, Calif., recently returned from a trip to the East.

W. H. Enlow, formerly with Hammond Lumber Company's yard at Watsonville, Calif., is now manager of the C & S Lumber Co., Compton, Calif.

A. J. Mgar has opened a retail yard in Lynwood, Calif. He was formerly with the Alert Lumber & Mill Co., Los Angeles.

Bill and John Sampson of the Sampson Lumber C"o., Pasadena, Calif., returned recently from a hunting trip to Utah with their limit of deer.

S. W. Moncure has opened a new reteuil lumber and building materials yard in San Francisco to be called the Bay Shore Lumber Co.
