Responding to requests from builders and flooring contractors' members of the National Particleboard Association have announced an association-wide program of panel stamping backed by written guarantees.
Member companies also have issued installation instructions desigrred to aid users of wood particleboard for floor underlayment.
Ten members of NPA, currently manufacture or market a panel engineered specifically for floor underlayment. All meet or exceed requirements of FHA use of materials bulletin UM-28 and offer written g'uaranteees providing for ei,ther refund of the full cost of installation (including labor) of the underlayment, adhesives and floor covering or satisfactory repair. Panels must be installed according to manufacturers' instructions.
Eight companies face-identify their panels. They are Brownsville Particle Board, Duraflake, Gray Products, International Paper, Forrest Industries, Pope & Talbot, United States Plywood and Weyerhaeuser.
Collins Pine, which offers the same guarantee, identifies its underlayment grade panels with an edge stamp. Georgia Pacific guarantees the panels from certain specific mills. Names may be obtained from the company.
Copies of all guarantees and panel stamps may be obtained by writing to the National Particleboard Association, 7ll 14th Street, N.W., Vashington, D.C.
Perquet Flooring Populor
Sharply increased use of parquet wood flooring in American homer-matched by a growing trend away from wall-towall carpeting has been forecast by Guy H. Dennis, president of WatcoDennis Corp. of Santa Monica, Calif.
Dennis said statistics compiled by his firm indicate that be' tween 35 and 45 million square feet of parquet wood flooring will be employed in new or remodeled homes and apartments throughout tlle United States during the next 12 months. This compares with less than three million sguare feet used during 1957.
'oBased on present trends, use of parquet floors should triple during the next five years," Dennis said.
