Jack Dasch, populal Sacramento lumberman and officer of ,Sacramento Hoo-Hoo Club 109, was named salesmanager of Speckert Lumber Co. in Marysville, on October 19. Until its recent purchase by American Forest Products, Jack represented Winton Lumber Company of Martell. Speckert will be responsible for the sale to wholesalers of 35 to 40MM bf of pine and rwhite fir per year'.

Max Barnette, IBMC chief, Los Angeles, back on the job following a few u'eeks rest basking in the southland sunshine.

Rob Bieleck, Mulford Lumber Co,, San Leandro, celebrated his r.elease as president of Oakland Hoo-Hoo Club 39, by treating himself and the missus to two weeks in Hawaii.

Art Batliner, a veteran of 45 years of service *'ith Long-Bell Lumber Co., combined a little business enroute to a Canadian vacation with Mrs. Batliner by calling on Long-Bell mill connections in Oregon and Washington.

Glenn Colburn is replacing Ronald Morrell as manager of Willamette National Lumber Co. at Foster, Oregon. Morrell leaves to continue studies at Portland State College.

Harold Price, former salesmanager of Wholesale Building Supply Co. in Oakland, is now with Rex Reid. owner of Builders Service Center at Donner Lake. Price will manage the retail yard, enabling Reid to spend full time on his cabin design and contracting end of the business.

George Adams, president of Noah Adams Lumber Company, and Bob Adams, spent a recent week going through the Builders Emporium chain in the southland gleaning rnerchandising ideas for their five yard Delta region chain.

Bob and Ray Peterson, Nevada Wholesale Lumber Co. in Reno, had a successful, but cold, outing over opening day of deer season in the "ice box of Nevada,t' north of Winnemucca, rrValt and Levoy Thodg owners of Thode & Sons, Oroville, are currently in Wyoming on a deer and elk safari.

Bernie and Elaine Barber attended a millwork convention in Denver, Colorado, October 7-11. Bernie, head of Bernie Barber & Associates, is also secretarv-managel of the Woodwork Institute of Califomia, with headqualters in Fresno.

Bob Nikkel. head of R. F. Nikkel Lumber Co. in Sacramento, is currently touring the Far East after taking in the Olympics at Tokyo. Bob plans to return home December 21, or thereabouts.

Mildred Dutton, popular lumber "gal friday" is pinch-hitting for Ruth Armand at E. J. Stanton & Son. Mildred was, for' many years, traffic manager for Stanton, retiring a couple of years ago.

Former Cloverdale wholesaler Sherwood Hall has replaced Jim Maher at Hollow Tree Redwood Co., according to general manager Paul Sparso.

Carl D. Larson has returted to the School of Business faculty at San Francisco State College as an assistant professor of marketing. Previously he had been with North Pacific Lumber Co. in the Northwest, and Harbor Plyrvood Corp. and Interstate Container Corp. in the Califolnia market.

Mrs. Elrl Hazellon, owner of Hazelton Lumber Co., Oakland, has returned from several weeks in the South and East where she was unfortunate enough to bump head on into Hurricane Hilda.

Mike and Deirdre Walsh have rounded out their family at a half-dozen. Number six is Jonathan James, born September 15. Mike's v.p. and general manag'er for Fairhurst Lumber in L.A.

Harry Anthony, manager of the new J. E. Higgins Lumber Co. branch at Sacramento, welcomed Al Dodrill on to his staff last month. A product of Sacramento, Dodrill was 10 years with Friend & Terry and 10 years with Sierra Mill before joining Higgins.

Bob and I)olores Gaylord of Fir & Pine Lumber Co., are spending a couple of weeks touring British Columbia and the Northwest lumber area on a business and pleasure jaunt.

Don Philips, Jr., head of Evans Products Company's lumber division in southern California, has moved into new offices at 2288 Westwood Blvd., Suite 216, in Los Angeles.

Ifarry Frankhouser, genial salesmanager of Civic Center Lumber Company in Bakersfield, is not a mam to do things halfway. After only six months of playing goft, Harry pulled out his trusty eight iron at the Bakersfield Public Course on October 6. and belted a really round Maxflite ball l8b yards right into the cup. Said it was so easy that he might take up golf for a living- Iook out Palmer, Player, Nicklaus and company!

Ralph Norback, for many years with E. L. Bruce Co. in the Bay Area, recently joined Strable Lumber Company in Oaftland. He will represent the 5S-year-old firm in the Bay Area, according to general manager Jim Overcast. Looks like they,ll have a bit of trouble keeping their Ralph's st4aight over there at Strable, what with Ralph Bacon, Ralph Meyer and now Norback.

Glen Butler, head of Cal - Sac Lumber Sales, Inc. in Sacramento, announced the addition of Chuck Lacey. Lacey, a running mate of Butler's from way back, will rep the wholesale firm in southern California from offices in Montebello.

Ilarold Paxton is all crippled-up and limping around his Sutter-Union Lumber Company yard in Yuba City following a big deer hunting outing north of Elko.

Bob Goetze is back at the old stand with California-Pacific Corporation and will cover the Los Angeles area, according to Freeman Campbell, sales manager.

Ray Tierney, for the past several years with the Harbor Lumber Company in San Francisco, joined John Lowe and Frank Billings in Cal-Pacific's San Francisco sales office October 1, Prior to joining Harbor Lumber, Tierney spent a major portion of his post war years in lumber with Hill & Morton, Inc. in Oakland.

^Ilarry Terrell, Jr., with 20 years in sales, mill operation and shipping, has joined the Los Angeles offce of Hobbs-Wall Lumber Co. as outside contact man for the wholesale firm, according to Don Muller, southern California manager.

Tony Mendosa, former assistant manager of Newman Lumber Co., is now managing the new Central Valley Building Supply yard in Los Banos.

Frank Ruggieri, head man of San Antonio Rigid Pole Construction Co. has returned from an extended trip to his Williams, California plant. His wife Vada spent part of the time with him before returning to the home office.

Harry F. Yincent, general manager, E. K. Wood Lumber Co., San Francisco. vacation around Bend, Ore., and saw that spec- taeuiar Deschutes River log drive.

Joyce Pistole is the new "gill friday,' running the details in Hobbs-l{all's oftce. They say she is the best coffee maker in the south.

Dave Lashley, La Canada wholesaler. spent the first part of October calling on suppliers throughout northern California.

Vern Parsons, head of Parsons Lumber & Hardware at Boyes Springs, narrowly escaped being burned out duling the tragic killer fire that swept through Sonoma County last month. Houses just a block away were gutted, as was the sporting goods store across the street, but Vern's new store and yard came through virtually unscathed.

Rene Lester, queen bee at Fir & Pine Lumber Co., has just r.eturned' from an island-hopping visit to Hawaii.

Looks as if we did Cal-Ida's George Dufi a grave injustice when we reported him in Europe in the last issue. He was there all right, but that was only the beginning. George just returned home to Auburn via the Far East where he capped off his world wide jaunt by taking in the Olympics at Tokyo.

Ed Fountain, Jr. and Barbara Michel were married Oct. 17 in Los Angeles. After a hone5rmoon in Europe, Ed will return to the old stand at Ed Fountain Lurnber Co.

Yern Miller has replaced Al Pierre as general manager of PBM, Santa Rosa. Miller had been with PBM as a salesman for several years.
