Henry Winfree ended a short-lived, 15-day "retirement"

October 1 when he announced the formation of Winfree & Tynan, a wholesale lumber operation which will represent Dant & Russell. Inc. and the Coast Pacific Lurnber Com- pany at Eureka, throughout Northern California. The partnership, which includes former Dant & Russell salesman Pat Tynan, will also do business with several other better known Northern California independent mills to further round out its operation.

Winfree, who announced his "retirement" September 15 following the closing of Dant & Russell's lumber division offices in San Francisco (CLM, g/LS), has spent over 30 years in lumber.

His partner, young Pat Tynan, spent over five years with the Dant & Russell organization. A native of Oregon and a Navy veteran of WWII, Tynan graduated from Oregon State College in 1950 and began a career of lumber with the Mt. June Lumber Company in Springfield, Oregon, shortly after graduation. After a year at Springfield he joined Dant & Russell at Portland, was transferred to its San Francisco sales offices on January l. 1954, and has since been representing Dant & Russell in the San Joaquin Valley.

To facilitate working with Dant & Russell, Winfree & Tynan will continue to occupy the old D&R lumber division offices at 214 Front Street, San Francisco. However, the phone numbers for the new partnership have been changed to YUkon 6-5392 and 93.

Clover Volley lumber Co. Sold

Loyalton, Calif.-Feather River Lumber Co., Reno, Nevada, has bought and rvill operate the assets of the Clover Valley Lumber Co. after December 31. Alvin C. Olsen is resident manager of the yard, rvhich rn,as orvned by BakerFentress Co. of Chicago, headed by George R. Birkelund. J. K. Metzger heads the Reno firm. The transfer will include the sawmill, kilns, planing mill and box factory here, 36 miles of logging railroad in Plumas and Sierra counties, rolling stock and railroad machine shop, and all assets except timber. The Reno firm recently bought the Quincy Lumber Co. at Sloat.

U. S. Plywood Appoinfs Gollogher NoGol Lumber Division Heqd

Don Kesselring, Northern California district manager for U. S. Plywood Corp., announces that Ed Gallagher has been appointed head of USP's lumber division for Northern California. For many years manager of the Associated Plywood Mills, Inc., San Francisco warehouse, Gallagher will service an area from Fresno to the Oregon border and will work out of U. S. Plvu'ood's Oakland warehouse at 330 Brush Street.

Worm Springs Redwood Plqnf Sold

Willits, Calif.-Thomas Geohegan, manager of the firm, announced completion of a transaction whereby the Pacific Coast Co. here and affiliated.companies become owners of the Warm Springs Redwood Co. dry kilns and remanufacturing plant here and the Wolf Creek sawmill and timber holdings in northern Mendocino county.

NCIC Holds Meeting

Al Thrasher, president of the Northwestern California Lumbermen's Club, presided over a highly successful evening meeting at the Scotia Inn, September 14. In addition to libations, dinner and entertainment, the group also discussed plans for the club's annual Stag which will be held next month in Eureka.

Kaiser Gypsum Company has promoted Sidney J. Smith to assistant district sales manager in northern California.
