Building Gode Accepfs 2.4.1

The International Conference of Building Officials has accepted 2.4.1 plyrvood for combination subflooring and underlayment for the Uniform Building Code rvhich is used in hundreds of cities throughout the country. The panel functions as a solid one-piece base over supports on 48-incl-r centers. Studies by the conference's research committee say that tests shorv this panel has greater strength and stiffness when supported on all edges than the oneinch nominal rvood sheathing norv permitted under the Uniform Building Code.

The new 2.4.1 panel is Douglas Fir Plywood Association's trade name for l!/s,-inch thick seven ply soft- wood plywood panels designed to function as a onepiece combination subfloor and underlayment.

Conditions under which the code now permits use of 2.4.1 are as follows: ends of panels must be butted on A-inch wide main girders spaced a maximum of 48 inches on centers. Sides must be supported by at least 2x4-inch blocking. Where panels do not cover two spans, the centers must be supported at midspan. Panels should be applied with face grain perpendicular to span the direction of the girder. Panels must be nailed with lod common. 8d ring shank or helically threaded common nails spaced at least 6 inches on center.
