Rockport Closes Gong Mill

Leslie I. Holmes, general manager of the Rockport Redwood Co., told the Fort Bragg Advocate-News that the gang mill at Rockport was scheduled to close September 29 but that only about 20 of the 325 Rockport Redwood Co. employes would be affected in the economy move deemed necessary at this time due to the current market trends. Production was expected to resume in January.

Burnoby, Brown on SCRLA Boord

Homer H. Burnaby, executive vice-president of the Sun Lumber Co., San Pedro, has been elected by the major lumberyards to be a member of the board of directors of the Southern California Retail Lumber Assn., reports Pres- ident Wayne Mullin. Stanley E. Brown, president of the Chandler Lumber Co., Van Nuys, has also been elected a SCRLA board member, succeeding George M. Hammond, who retired from the business this spring. Brown was elected at a dinner meeting of the San Fernando Valley Lumbermen's GrouD of the SCRLA.

San Leandro, Calif.-A recent three-alarm fire caused $35,000 damage to the Larson Lumber Company yard here before being controlled by the local and Oakland fire departments. Damage to buildings and finished lumber was $25,000 and $10,000 to yard equipment. The office was about 5O years old. Harry Larson owns the yard.

Berf Cooper Counts Up 4O Yeqrs

Bert Cooper, who is now working with Hans Wall in the General Lumber & Supply Co. retail yard on Sunset boulevard in Los Angeles, racked up 40 years in the business on September 1. The popular dealer started with the old San Pedro Lumber Co. in 1916. Bert is norv "minding the store" while Owner Wall is in Germany.

Tobe Tyree Joins Gontinentol

Tobe Tyree has joined Continental Lumber Sales, San Marino, Calif., as a salesman, announces Peyt Maloney, head of the wholesale firm. Tyree will work the dealer trade in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Imperial and San Diego counties.
