Portland, Ore.-Georgia-Pacific Corporation and a newly organized, wholly owned subsidiary, Hammond-California Redwood Co., plan to exercise option to purchase substantially all the assets of Hammond Lumber Company of San Francisco for approximately $25,388,000 late this month. The Hammond operations will be continued under the new name, it was said; no significant ,changes in organization were anticipated.

Georgia-Pacific will issue to Hammond Lumber Co., in part payment for the assets, approximately $15,388,00O of debentures d.ue 1976, underwritten by a group headed by Blyth & Co., plus loans to Hammond-California Redwood Co. from insurance companies geared to harvesting of timber over a 2}-year period. announced in May calling for purchase ol 256,4ffi shares of Hammond capital stock at a total of $79,484,000. The assets that are not now being bought were not defined earlier this month.

Major assets of Hammond Lumber Co. include four billion board feet of timber, mostly redwood; 31 retail lumberyards in California and lumber manufacturing plants in California and Oregon.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur W. Bernhauer celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary Sept. 23 with a reception for more than 300 friends and relatives at their home in Fresno, where he is president of Fresno Planing Mill Company. The Fresno Bee made the occasion the leading article of its society page and printed "then and now" pictures of the popular couple. Present were the Bernhauers' son and tu.'o daughters and eight grandchildren. Eleven of the 5O guests at the wedding in 1906 also attended the anniversary. Art Bernhauer and three associates founded the planing mill in 1908 and he is still the active manager. He was president of the Millwork Institute of California for many years and also of the TriState Woodwork Assn., which represented seveial western states under the NRA.

"Peyt" Maloney has refurbished the suite of offices occupied by his Continental Lumber Sales, Inc., offices in San Marino. Complete air-conditioning facilities and a new paint job and furniture were added for the expanding staft of the wholesale lumber distributing firm.

Bob Heberle, southern California wholesale lumber distributor, bagged a 15Glb. buck in Lassen county last month and many of his friends are enjoying venison on their tables thanks to his expert markmanship.

Glenn Fornay, general salesmanager of the F. M. Crawford Lumber Co., Redding, spent several days last month on a business-pleasure trip in southern California. He covered various accounts around Los Angeles with Lloyd Webb, softwoods manager of E. J. Stanton & Son.

Max Hill, one of the partners of the H. M. Nelson Lumber Co., Los Angeles, made r September tour of their mill connections in the High Sierra and Redding areas.
