Frank Brown Enters \(/holerale Lumber Business

Frank A. Brown, well known Northern California lumberman, entered the wholesale lumber business March 15. He is repre'senting the Cascade Pacific Lumber Co., of Portland, Oregon, in Northern California, and for the present will have his office in his home at 725 Evelyn Street, Albany, Calif. Mr. Brown has been manager for the past three and a half years of the fence manufacturing plant of Tynan & Rogers at Redwood City, Calif. Prior to that he was with Pope & Talbot, Lumber Division, San Francisco, for 13 years in the sales depaqtment. He has a large acquaintance among the lumber dealers, and his many friends will rvisir him well in his new venture.

New Western Pine Grading Rules

Portland, Ore., April 4-The 1949 edition of the Western Pine Association's Standard Grading Rules is off the press and ready for distribution, the association reported today.

The new edition is the first complete reprinting since 1947 and ,contains all changes made at the association's annual meeting in February as well as incorporation of supplements issued periodically over the past two years. It will be effective April 15, 1949, and will supersede the previous edition dated April 15,1947.

Changes include complete listing of White Fir grading rules, clarification of the rule for No. 5 Common in all species and the addition of examples of 1 x 4" pieces in Ponderosa Pine and Sugar Pine grades.

The rules cover the grading of all species produced by members of the Association-Ponderosa Pine, Sugar Pine, Idaho White Pine, Lodgepole Pine, Larch, Douglas Fir, White Fir, Engelmann Spruce, fncense Cedar, and Red Cedar.

Hyster Announces New Appointments

New district manager of industrial truck sales in the western division of the Hyster Company at Portland, Ore., is William Kilkenny, according to the announcement by Ray Ronald, western division sales manager. Territory under his jurisdiction includes 11 western states, four western provinces of Canada, as well as Alaska and Hawaii. He assumes his new position after more than two years as salesman for the Hyster Sales Company of Portland.

Jack A. Cairns, formerly assistant to the Western division sales manager, has been transferred to a sales engineering position in the Los Angeles area. With the Hyster Company lor 4l years, he had previous experience in tractor engineering for the John Deere Tractor Company.
