Joseph C. Shipsey, business manager for' Diamond National Corp., Red Bluff, Calif.. was elected Chairman. Timber Growers of
Northern California during the first annual meeting of the organization in Red Blufi Tuesday, Jan. 15.
Shipsey, a native of New York, joined his company in that state as an accountant. and in 1950 moved to the California lumber division with headquarters in Chico. Two years ago he was transferred to Red Bluff and his present position.
During the coming year, under Shipsey's leadership. Timber Growers will engage in information programs concerned with fire, insects and disease, and timber taxation. and the effect of these natural and mancaused influences on private ownership and management of commercial forest lands.

Eckqrdt Re-elected President of NWMA
Hugo \[r. Eckhardt, President of Morgan Company-millwork manufacturers in Oshkosh, Visconsin-was re-elected President of the National Woodwork Manufacturers Association at the group's 36th Annual Meeting. NWMA met on February 12-13 at the Drake Hotel in Chicago.
Other officers re-elected were: C. B. McKeehan of Mengel Wood Industries as Vice President; G. M. Curtis of Curtis Companies Incorporated as Treasurer; and James E. Nolan as SecretaryManager of NWMA. Also, Earl Swanson of Andersen Corpora' tion and Herman Thomas of Dierks Forests, Inc., were elected to the Executive Committee of the association. Newly elected members of the NWMA Board of Directors are E. B. Albers of Huttig Manufacturing Company and E. W. Donahue, Jr. of Wa' bash Screen Door Company.
The National Woodwork Manufacturers Association, a tradc group of wood window, door and frame manufacturers, main' tains its offices at 400 West Madison Street in Chicago.

A Second Look ot the Soqring Sixties
A highlight of the recent llth Annual Convention o{ the National Building Material Distributors Association was a panel discussion which provided o'A Second Look At The Soaring Sixties."
The boom that failed to snap. crackle and pop was examined and discussed by a building material manufacturer, Marland Wolf, vice president, Wood Conversion Co., St. Paul, Minn.; an economist, F. R. Widmer, commercial research division, Republic Steel Corp.. Cleveland, Ohio; and a retail building material dealer authority, T. T. Sneddon, NLBMDA (formerly NRLDA), Wash' ington, D. C.
The following predictions were made:
Innovations in housing design will create new produucts and new markets.
By 1965 a spurt in new families will stimulate residential hous' ing starts.
Re-evaluation of business objectives and goals realistically according to current trends will strengthen sales and profits.
The second look at the soaring sixties proved somewhat difierent than the rosey forecast of several years ago. With a realistic approach, the panel concluded that before the count-down can begin, there will have to be a few internal adjustments.
Woods Brothers Split Phoenix qnd Tucson Yords
Tom and Paul Woods. owners of Woods Brothers Lumber Company at Tucson and Phoenix, Arizona, have divided the operations with Tom Woods taking over the Tucson operation and Paul Woods acquiring the Phoenix yard. The Tucson yard will be changed to a cash and carry operation while the Phoenix yard will be converted to a conventional credit business.
