Olympic Stained Products lncreqses Production
Olympic Stained Products Company of Seattle has announced installation of a new ball mill, brought about by increased demand for stains.
The new installation will boost Olympic's stain production by some 800 gallons per duy.
The increased demand has come about because of Olympic Stain's 'ospecializing" in the stain field, rather than branching out into the many-sided paint field, according to John N. Anderson, president. He said that, by becoming specialists, Olympic "has become recognized as the leading authority on stains."
The current trend in stains, Anderson said, is toward semi-transparent finishes which allow the grain and texture of wood to remain clearly visible. "With so many artificial wood products on the market, it is important for the texture to show through, so that architects and others who specify wood can be certain the quality will be recognized," Anderson said.
In a ball mill, dry pigments are mixed with oils to produce wood stains of many colors. The new equipment gives the best available mix, Anderson said, which means the stain has long color durability.
