Redwood Region Logging Conference
The 25th annual session of the Redwood Region Logging Conference will be held at Redwood Acres Fair Grounds, Eureka, California, on March 7-8-9, 1963, according to Robert E. Johnson, conference president, Weyerhaeuser Co.o Arcata.
A special historical theme will be attached to the logging conference this year, Johnson said, in line with the silver anni' versary of the conference.
There will be a heavy equipment show in connection with the conference this year, Johnson reportedo the first show in Eureka since 1957. Equipment dealers are invited to display their new equipment and also participate in the conference program. Special times will be allotted to viewing the equipment show.
Highlights of the program will include reports by the conference founder Emanuel Fritz of Berkeley, an old timer's panel headed by Myron Krueger, Sebastopol, ,-former logging engineer in the redwood region and retired'from the University of Cali{ornia School of Forestry.
Other aspects of the conference Program will include a panel discussion on timber falling and bucking practices, past and present, moderated by J. E. Pickett, Wolf Creek Logging Co., Arcata, a panel on U. S. Forest Service timber sale policies moderated by George Craig, Western Manufacturers, Inc., San Francisco, and a panel on timber yarding practices moderated by John Yingst, Simpson Timber Co., Klamath.
The Sawdust Bowl and banquet enter' tainment, as well as arrangements for the equipment show, will be coordinated by the logging equipment dealers group, Redwood Area Indust,rial Suppliers, headed by Ken Reynolds, Loggers &Mill Supply Co., Arcata,
A complete ladies program for wives of conference attendees is being planned by Mrs. Robert H. Barrett and Mrs. Robert E. Johnson, both of Arcata. Events will include a luncheon at Baywood Golf and Country Club and other events at the Eureka Inn.

Masonite Corporation's entertaining 14' min. movie, "The Incredible Shrinking House," is now available for public service broadcasting by television stations from New York to Los Angeles, according to James H. Hurley, director of advertising and sales promotion.
Uproariously funny at many points, the movie isa peppy parody on old-time oosilent" films. It tells the story of a young couple whose house seems to shrink as the family grows.
As family space "crises" arise, the man and his wife rush to their lumber dealer to get his advice. Through imaginative design and building materials, the family is saved the expense and inconvenience of moving to a new home.

Sales force for the firm are five men who are well-equipped to carry out the firm's advanced thinking in regard to customer serv. ice and cooperation. They are:
Ralph Stefien, veteran Los Angeles wholesale lumber salesman, recently joined Shasta-National and will cover an assigned territory. Ralph has more than 20 years experience as a grader, production worker and in sales. Salesman Glen Patrick has been identified at the retail level in Southern California for the past seven years primarily in purchasing, along with sales. He has been with the wholesale organization servicing lumber dealers and industrial accounts for the past two years. Merv Frederick comes to the new operation via the Shasta National route. Merv is well known throughout the wholesale lumber industry in the southland, having been trained in all areas of the business from yard through shipping to sales. He has more than l0 years experience. Oscar Pitt. man started in the lumber business back in 1934 with his father. For the past three decades he has covered every departrnent of wholesale distribution, remanufacturing and retail sales. He is the veteran on the sales stall. Junior member of the Shasta-National sales staff is Irv Kanes. A horn salesman. Irv is learning the wholesale lumber distribution the hard way and covers a iegular territory for the firm.
Other able types in the staff are vet€ran production boss and mill superintendent Jack Eggers. Jack has been'round these parts for, many years and has been super cargo at Smith-Robbins for than five years. His is the responsibility to see that customel orders are milled to specification and delivered on-time. Carl Errglund, formerly with the old McCoy Planing Mill and a lumbernran for more than a quarter oI a century is the yard superintendent and "bull of the woods" at Shasta-National. Carl has been around for a long, long time. "Girl Friday" Dorothy Cuthbert was raised in the mill production country. Originally from Vancouver, 8.C.. where she garnered experience in the Hardwood and Plywood business, Dorothy has been in the Smith-Robbins and Shasta National operation over two years. Last but not least is Richard Robert Cuevas, shipping clerk. It is his duty to see that materials and orders arrive and depart on schedule and smoothly. Dick has been identified in lumber for more than five years. He started at the bottom and is working his way gradually to the top.
The modernization program at the yard included complete resurfacing and new sheds to bring up to 2,00,000 board feet the total that can be kept under cover. The paint brush has been used freely to brighten up the yard and the immaculately maintained equipment.
