Woodfiber Products Thqt Won't Burn?
Woodfiber products that won't burn ? This question was answered for the nation's home builders when new noncombustible acoustical, decorative and insulating board products made of woodfibers were introduced at the National Association of Home Builders convention which opened December L2 at Qhicago's McCormick Place.
Called Pyrotect, the new products, made entirely of inexpensive woodfiber, represent a long-awaited breakthrough in the field of Iow-cost fire safety for the entire lightconstruction industry.

The exclusive new process was developed after years of intensive research by Simpson Timber Company. Simpson scientists devised a method of impregnating every single woodfiber with a permanent fireproofing chemical, similar to that which the company uses to fight forest fires. This process gives thorough fire protection throughout the ceiling tile and iusulating board.
Extensive tests to measure the new product's flame spread efficiency have been conducted in leading federal and private laboratories, including IJnderwriter's Laboratories, Inc., Chicago. Pyrotect is rated "noncombustible" as defined by the National Fire Protection Association and leading building codes across the United States. It is the first 'woodfiber insulating board prodcut to meet Class 1 standards with its low flame-spread rating.
Because of their sound deadening properties and modern appearance, Simpson acoustical woodfiber ceiling tile products have become well known and widely used throughout the world since being introduced to consumers seven years ago. Now, with the added feature of low-cost fire safety, they make possible great savings in the construction of retail stores, clinics, apartments, restaurants, home and related installations.
Caiifornia Iuiaber Merchani
Jack L. Wetherby, Jr., Simpson insulating board products official, stated "the use of Pyrotect will unquestionably become widespread as an increasingly fire-conscious public becomes aware that fire-safe products are now available in an affordable price rang'e . just slightly more than ordinary products without this protection."
Simpson Timber Company, one of the country's leading manufacturers of building products for 67 years, nationally markets products for residential, commercial and industrial construction including California redwood, construction and specialty plywoods, doors, Douglas fir and Hemloek lumber, acoustical and insulating board products as well as hardboard and roof deck.

Spring Promolions Give Soles lmpetus To Speciolty llems
Special spring promotions can pay ofi in increased sales of certain high-profit specialty items.
By promoting the installation of red cedar closet lining at a time when homeowners are concerned about the storage of valuable furs, woolens and other winter clothes, aggressive lumber dealers can chalk up unusually high sales of this specialty material.
"It doesn't take a great deal of efiort to spark these sales." according to Lee Seabolt, public relations director of the Aromatic Red Cedar Closet Lining Manufacturers Association.
Eye-catching displays, prime position in newspaper ads direct mail pieces have been used successfully by dealers to crease sales of this specialty item, Seabolt says.
'oHomemakers are looking for moth-repellent storag€ areas at this time of year, and home handymen are attracted by a weekend project that can be completed for approximately $50. This is especially true because the improvement also will increase the appraisal value of the house."
Since aromatic red cedar closet lining comes in pre-packaged bundles, it is easy to build a simple display in the window or on the floor. Complete installation instructions in each bundle make the project an easy one for the do-it-yourselfer.
Standqrdized Plywood Unit Strapping, Color ldentity ond tobeling Exponded
Automatic plywood unit strapping, labeling, branding, and color identification have been adopted as standard practice for all Georgia-Pacific western softwood plywood mills in Oregon, Washington and California.

The expanded and standardized program involves the largest single block of frr plywood production in the industry. It follows extensive market and production testing by several G-P plants that helped pioneer the indugtry trendn according to Frank V. Langfitt Jr., the company's western plywood marketing manager.
Automatic strapping machinery now has been installed in all western plants, he said. The extensive program involves both sanded and sheathing, plus textured, oierlaid and other specialties.
Units with a standard number of panels, depending upon thickness, have 2x4 separators attached for lift truck handling and stacking, he said. Color-code edge sealing or color grade stripes conform to the standard red for exterior and green for interior' Each unit also is labeled for grade, number of pieces and thickness.
On units carrying colored grade striping, one stripe indicates AA, two AB, three AC or AD, four BC or BD and five CD. The CD sheathing with an exterior glueline carries a red center stripe with four green stripes.
