Torifi Commission Rules Agoinst Portuguese Cement
The U. S. Tariff Commission ruled recently that imports of Portland cement from Portugal are causing injury to the U.S. industry under terms of the "anti-dumping" act.
The commission held that such imports are being sold at less than fair value, forcing lower prices on the U.S. industry in order to compete.
As a result of the commission's ruling, all Portuguese portland cement imported in the future must meet fair value specifications as determined by the U.S. Treasury Department.
The commission said that while the price of Portuguese cement was sold at prices prevailing in the U.S. market, U.S. prices had previously been depressed by importation, also at "less than fair value," of cement flom other countries.
The commission held the Portuguese case to be "one of a series" in which the U.S. industry has been afiected by imports fronr other countries.
