A big, powerful-looking rnan was standing on the depot platform waiting for a train, when he spied on the platform one of those spring scales where you drop a coin into the slot and the arm on the face of the scales points to your weight.
The big man stepped on the scales, fished out a coin and dropped it in the slot, and the arm swung up. But the scale was out of order, and the arm got to where it pointed to 30 pounds, and there it stuck.
There were two little newsboys on the platform, and one of them happened to be looking to see how much the big guy weighed. lArhen he saw the big man standing on the scale and the indicator only showing thirty pounds, he shouted excitedly to his pal:
"H.y, Jimmy ! Pipe the big stiff ! He must be hollow !"
Terrible Twenty Smitten by Polm Springs
Palm Springs at its best, warm and clear, played host to the 42TthTerrible Twenty tournament, Friday, December 15 at the Thunderbird Country Club.
"The tournament was so enjoyable," reports H. M. Alling, secretarv. "that it will orobablv become an annual affair and possibly a two day jaunl with guests will be included."
Bob Pierce, host for the event, Tom Fleming and Dr. Rekers, all had net 73's to tie in the low handicao bracket. and Bill Hipple with a net 73 won the high brackit. The tie will be played off next month ;rt Red Hill.
