Helps the Air Box

A louvered aluminum window screen developed by Kaiser Aluminum can reduce solar heat gain through windows by as much as 80%, resulting in substantial savings on air conditioning requirements and energy costs.

The solar control ShadeScreen consists of tiny built-in aluminum louvers (17.5 per inch) which intercept all of the sun's scorching rays during the hottest hours of the day while allowing controlled useful light to enter.

In calculations based on typical conditions prevailing on July 2l at

4 p.m. at 40o North Latitude (a line stretching roughly from New York City to Quincy, Ca.), it was shown that ordinary window glass facing west allowed a solar heat gain of 216 Btu's per hour to penetrate each square foot of glass. Covered with ShadeScreen, this same window area reduced the heat gain to 45 Btu's per hour. Even greater savings are possible at locations farther south. Garage Door Innovation

New jamb-type overhead garage door hardware with exclusive patented features that allow ouick installation. sinrple and easy adjustment, smooth operation with a standard perfect arc, and is compatible with electric operators, has been introduced by Beehive Door Co.

Two types of hardware are available, depending upon the overhead clearance. The standard perfect arc requires only a maximum head clearance of 9-112" and is adjustable in one simple operation to a minimum head clearance of 2-314". Low overhead hardware only requires a clearance of l-112". The hinge's balance and perfect arc allow the door to open and close smoothly and evenly either manually or with an automatic electric ooerator.

The hardware's compatibility with electric operators provides significant savings where operators and low head room clearances can be effected with jamb-type hardware thereby eliminating the need for more costly track hardware.

Safe'and compact, it is the first jamb-type hinge with the spring factory-mounted as part of the hardware. Once the door is placed in its opening, one man can install the hardware in l5 minutes first bolting it on each jamb and then securing each lever arm to the door. The hardware uses only one type spring. simplifying inventory.

Adjustments are simplified with an exclusive patented feature. Only a wrench is needed to adjust a bolt in a slotted scale. Another slotted adjustment allows quick alignntent of the door if the jamb is not true.

A new series of convertible range hoods that enable a dealer to carry a single decorator-styled hood in inventory and thus reduce his investment in space and dollars is being added to Kich-n-vent line of range hoods by Home Metal Products Co.

The 2100 Series features a unique venting structure that allows a standard hood to be converted at the time of installation into any of three venting systems - 7" round, 3% x lO" , or ductless.

Raingutter I mprovement

Plastmo, Inc. has a lighter, stronger, and less expensive plastic bracket for its polyvinyl chloride snap-together raingutters. The plastic bracket is the product of five years research at Plastmo's main plant in Copenhagen, Denmark, and is made of Hostalit-Z, Plastmo's exclusive pvc formula modified with polyethylene chloride.

Plastmo's Hostalit-Z plastic bracket can withstand the same tension as its epoxy-coated metal bracket but retails for 55d each, while metal retails for 89( each. The new plastic bracket weighs 7IVo less than the conventional metal bracket, but a specially designed flange on the lower edge insures maximum strength. Plastmo has also repositioned the mounting holes on the Hostalit-Z plastic bracket for easier access by the builder or do-it-yourselfer.

Advanced Forklifts

J I Case Co. has a new "C" series forklifts offering componentized power train, four-speed synchromesh transmission with power shuttle and torque converter. The features are standard throughout the Construction King line of 584C, 585C and 586C models.

The componentized power train design simplifies servicing, e.g., individual power train components can be removed without disturbine other drive line members, which cin save maintenance time and expense over conventional torque tube designs. A rugged unitized frame, which absorbs stress and shock loads, guards the power train alignment of the new 50 hp (37, 3 kW) SAE net forklift models.

Corco Insulating Cork, a decorating and insulating product marketed by The Butter Co., is a wall covering', coarse, dark cork in 12" x 24" panels. A good insulator, having an

R factor of 3.84 per inch, each package contains four, 1" thick panels, and covers 8 sq. ft.

New Locking Network

A new locking system that secures doors on all four sides simultaneously has been introduced by the Mul-TLock Corp.

Mul-T-Lock security products feature an ingeniously engineered locking network which activates multiple deadbolts, like in a bank's vault, with an easy turn of the key. Unlike conventional door locks which utilize a single or double. bolt on one side of the door, MulT-Lock products feature four to six deadbolts which are driven deep into the door frame on all four sides including the threshold.

Carved Wood Mouldings

Carved hardwood mouldings in 22 Accent* patterns for decorative applications by homeowners were featured by Klise Manufacturing at the National Hardware Show.
