SUPPORT MERCY KILLING OF OLD TREES
Southwest. The firm has been in Arizona since the 1920s.
The retail store and warehouse are pre-engineered rigid steel structures, fabricated elsewhere and assembled on site. Prefinished rolled metal decking is being used for the walls and roof.
The steel buildings are accented with rough sawn beams and diagonal redwood fascias and exterior shade canopies.
An energy-saving air conditioning system was chosen for the store. with 50,000 sq. ft. of floor space.
The 12 air conditioning units in the main building are zoned so fullcapacity cooling is only used on the side of the building being hit by di rect sunlight. Heat load automatically switches units on in other areas as the sun moves during the day.
Stock and nursery areas uge evaporative coolers, and lights in, those rooms provide most of the necessary heating, with a gas system for backup.
Accompanying the retail lumber store on a lO-acre building site at 131 E. Broadway, Mesa, is a warehouse with 75,000 sq. ft. of floor space, along with regional qffices and lumber storage structures.
Construction of these buildings began Jan. 2, and they are ready for completion two months ahead of schedule with a total construction cost of $ 1.5 million.
"How would you like to be eaten alive by bugs? Support mercy killing of old trees! A noble giant of the forest, ruler of his domain for several hundred years deserves a more honorable death than to be eaten alive by insects!
"And you sawmills can go a step further and give these proud trees a dignified memorial iervice by selling the clear lumber to us. We will make mouldings and door jambs from the lumber which will be sent to the Deep South where they love to apply a natural finish rather than hide the beauty of the grain with (ugh) paint.
"Really now, does a 300 year old tree deserve to be converted to plywood and be covered by a rug and walked on? Or be covered with vinyl and be put on a wall, made to look like ash or fruity pecan?
"We will treat your trees with the reverence and respect that they deserve. "
