Redwood Plywood Promotion

Redwood plywood for new home building, remodeling, inner city rehabs and multi-unit projects is featured in a new California Redwood Association redwood plywood promotion campaign lbr architects, builders and consumers this Fall.

For the first time it will include Miller Redwood Co., a CRA member mill that acquired a plywood lay-up plant in Merlin. Or.. in Feb.. 1976. Miller Redwood. with a redwood veneer plant and sawmill in CrescentCity, Ca., is now the third CRA member producing redwood plywood, with Simpson Timber Co. and The Pacific Lumber Co.

To take advantage of expanded CRA advertising and publicity nationwide, redwood dealers should stock a new 8-p. CRA color design idea booklet, Redwoctd Plywood Living. The booklet shows interior-exterior applications of dilferent redwood plywood patterns, to give a rich, natural custom-designed look to single- and multiunit homes.

Redwood plywood combines the strength, easy handling and cost-saving construction advantages of plywood with the natural beauty and superior performance of redwood, according to the CRA campaign. Virtually maintenance free, it requires no finishes beyond factory-applied clear water repellent although for different color effects, it retains stains, paints and other finishes better than other woods.

NEW Ernst Home Center for Seattle is in company plans for this year as well as a new unit in Reno, Nv. The Wenatchee Valley Mall store in Wenatchee, Wa., that opened earlier this year is seen here. Parent company is Pay 'n Save Corp., Seattle.

Available with a cinnamon colored clear all heart redwood face or a sapwood-streaked clear grade face, it comes in grooved, inverted batten and other patterns that can be applied vertically, horizontally or diagonally. Plain faces can be used with or without battens, or cut to narrower widths for one-of-a-kind applications inside and out.

A flamespread rating of 75 for 5/8" redwood plywood meets Class II requirements under the Uniform Building Code and Class I under other codes, so it requires no flame retardant coatings for almost any residential, institutional or commerical uses. Redwood plywood also adds energysaving heat and sound insulation.

All redwood plywood markets are on the upswing this year - from custom homes that totalled 38% of last year's single family housing starts, to room additions, a $2.9 billion market last year, and re-siding, estimated to reach $2.5 billion by 1978.
