Redwood timber management
As our forests are a renewable natural resource, it only makes sense that they should be looked after and cared for. One of the leaders of the industry when it comes to this aspect of timber management is Harwood Products.
Harwood Products is a family-owned operation with two mills and a remanufacturing plant located in Mendocino County, about 150 miles north of San Francisco. One of the mills is located in the small hamlet of Branscomb, a picturesque little community nestled in the heart of the redwood and Douglas fir country. The other mill and the remanufacturing plant are located in Willits, about an hour's drive to the south of Blanscomb on Highway 101.
The Branscomb operation handles the majority of Douglas fir and the Willits mill handles most of the larger redwood logs. The rentanufacturing plant in Willits is set up as a finger-jointing plant, accounting for the high recovery rate Harwood enjoys.
For the last several years, Bud and Jack Harwood have managed the firm fbunded by their father, Bud, Sr. However, it really is a family operation as there are Harwoods involved in all aspects of the company, from falling timber, to office work, to quality control.
