Current publicity includes more construction and technical product information than in the past, geared to 1978's dynamic d-iyers, who represent half of 1977's $35 billion remodeling market. Through ads and in-store displays, retailers can promote the many d-i-y advantages of redwood lumber paneling to tie in with CRA ads and articles in shelter, architect and specifier magazines.

Redwood boards with vertical or flat woodgrains and a smooth or rough texture can be mixed and matched in grooved channel rustic and shiplap, or smooth tongue and groove patterns, according to the CRA. Board dimensions 4, 6 or 8 inches wide, 3/8 to I inch thick, and up to 20 feet long can also be mixed.

Other d-i-y advantages: compared to 4x8 sheets and even wallpaper, redwood lumber can be fitted around doors, windows and corners with minimum waste and error. Lightweight redwood boards are free of pitch for smooth sawing and nailing, and are also easier to lift and apply to walls than materials requiring careful gluing, balancing or folding.
