See what it means to be part of something bigger.

“Be
the man who never says die and someone who will face challenges and joys with courage and confidence. Know emphatically that God loves you, and with Him as your guide, you will make this changing world a better place.”
- Gregory Rando `77 Brother Martin High School President

CRUSADER PHILOSOPHY
The 157-year educational tradition of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart is grounded in a holistic approach to education. We believe that young people learn from their total experience of the school setting.
RELIGIOUS VALUES
We care for our students. Through our love, our challenging them, we show them God’s love. We help our young men journey through a faith-filled and meaningful life, all under the loving care of our gracious and forgiving God. We provide a sanctuary for all students.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
We challenge our students. Our varied academic programs encourage students to develop their God-given intellect, to nurture their curiosity, and to give them confidence in their future professional plans. Academic Excellence is different for each student. Our goal is for each young man to reach his academic potential.
PERSONAL ATTENTION
We know our students. We know their families. We strive to know and value each student’s sacred story, recognizing that the complete experience of a young person exists in all aspects of his life - his family, his faith, his academics, and his own personal interests. Our students are more than grades and GPAs. They are young men of varied talents and interests, and we strive to know and support these.
FRIENDLY DISCIPLINE
We respect our students. We trust them to do “the right thing” and “get in their way” when they don’t, not to punish but to correct. We want every act to be a “learning moment,” even their flawed moments. We want them to respect themselves and hold themselves accountable for living a moral life.
CRUSADER HISTORY
Brother Martin is a private Catholic school offering a college preparatory curriculum for boys in grades 8 through 12. The school has a lay and religious faculty, which is under the direction of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, an international religious order founded in 1821 by Father André Coindre in Lyons, France.
In September of 1969, celebrating the 100th year of educational commitment to the youth of the New Orleans area, the Brothers of the Sacred Heart consolidated St. Aloysius (1869-1969) and Cor Jesu (1954-1969) high schools under the title of Brother Martin High School.
In selecting the name, the Brothers honored one of their own. His contributions to the Brothers and to education are inscribed on the plaque in the lobby of the school: Brother Martin Hernandez, S.C., a Brother of the Sacred Heart whose lifetime of dedicated service to the youth of New Orleans is perpetuated by this building.

CURRICULUM
“Brother Martin High School is committed to academic excellence. We believe in the unique potential of each student. Our curriculum is designed to provide educational opportunities that will enhance our students’ continued growth and development. We encourage students to work to their fullest potential, use their talents most effectively, and give themselves the broadest possible education.”
- Michael Lynn `04, Assistant Principal for Academics
UNSTRUCTURED CLASS PERIOD
All students have one unstructured class period every day. The unstructured class period is designed to provide the student opportunities to do independent study, including reference work, and to use the library, Formation Center and resource centers. The student can also arrange conferences with teachers, guidance counselors and/or campus ministers. While always under adult supervision, the student develops a sense of self-responsibility, self-discipline, efficient use of his unstructured time, and serious study habits.
THE FORMATION CENTER
The Formation Center is designated to provide tutoring to students who need academic assistance before school, during their unstructured periods and/or after school. Students come to the center voluntarily or as required by teachers, counselors or the Formation Director. The Formation Center is also a place where students remediate missed or incomplete homework assignments in order to better prepare them for their classes. Teachers and National Honor Society members are available to provide any necessary assistance in building skills and strategies to foster students’ academic success.

“Brother Martin has provided us with an education of both mind and heart. We’ve been taught to lead not with pride, but with purpose. Not for recognition, but in service. We’ve been challenged to reflect on not just what we do, but on who we are.”

ACADEMIC SCHOLARS
Students eligible for Academic Scholarships at Brother Martin are incoming 8th and 9th graders. These scholarships range in value from one month to three months of tuition and are renewable for an additional three to four years, depending on the recipient’s year of entrance and the student’s ability to maintain a 3.5 grade point average for each academic quarter and enroll in at least one honors course each academic year. A student’s elementary academic profile, including grades and standardized test scores, are taken into consideration when the scholarship committee blindly chooses recipients.

“For
each Crusader, on each and every day, we work to develop true understanding, mastery of skills, and a sense of self-motivated responsibility that will serve them through college and beyond.”

WHY BROTHER MARTIN?

Forged in Brotherhood!
We are proud to have sent all three of our sons to Brother Martin High School - it has been one of the best decisions for our family.
What makes Brother Martin so special:
• A true sense of community and family that makes every student feel they belong.
• Shared values that guide young men to grow in character, faith, and responsibility.
• An outstanding education that prepares them not just for college, but for life.
• Engaged faculty who care deeply about their students’ success.
• Supportive leadership that sets a strong vision and example for the entire school.
Brother Martin is more than a school–it’s a place where boys grow into men of integrity, faith, and service. We are so grateful for the role it has played in shaping our sons’ futures.
