Kent Named As Valedictorian James Kent, senior of Room 2, was selected from among 139 graduating seniors to speak as valedictori an at Senior Award Night, May 26, in the school gymnasium. Kent has the highest average of all the seniors. Head of the Christian Doctrine unit at St. Aloysius, Jimmy spends much of his free time giving catechism instruction s to Catholic children attending public grade schools. He is treasurer of the St. James Major parish board of the C.C.D., besides holding the office of chairman of the Catholic TruthPublicity Committee in the school's Confratern ity of the Sacred Heart.
One hundred thirty-nine seniors from St. Aloysius will graduate at 8:00 p.m., May 27, in the Saint Louis Cathedral. The students will receive their diplomas at the Cathedral, but other awards will be given out at 8:00 P.M. on Award Night in the gymnasium, May 26. At graduation exercises in the Cathedral, Father George Julian, O.M.L, pastor of the Cathedral, will preside; Father William O'Connor, O.M.I., assistant, will
speak. Some of the awards to be given out at award night are: University Scholarshi p A four-year honor scholarship to Loyola University is awarded to the graduate with an outstandin g scholastic record. Dr. Francis B. Ducasse Trophy - The trophy is awarded annually to the graduate who has proved himself the outstandin g student-ath lete. Richard E. Lambert Memorial
Trophy - This award, given annually by the Class of 1934 in the memory of Mr. Lambert, is awarded to the graduate who has been selected by the faculty as the student exhibiting the most outstandin g school spirit throughou t his entire high school career. Music A gold medal is awarded to the graduate, who in the opinion of the music department, has shown the most proficiency in the study of music.

Robert Burns and Jeffery Houin were appointed recording secretary and treasurer, respectively. These boys were officers of the Sophomore Confratern ity. Installmen t of the new officers will take place at the next regular meeting of the Confraternity, May 18. Brother Louis, officers of the confratern ity, excepting juniors, and presidents of the various committee s formed the nominating committee which chose the candidates . Outgoing officers include seniors Kerry Hmvell, president; James Jackson, vice-presid ent; and Victor Smith, correspond ing sec!'ctary. Salvador D' Antoni, Emile Bruneau, Sidney Olivier, Gary Albrecht, Kerry Howell, and Russell Howley will receive a perfect' attendance medal for not being absent nor tardy once in four years on award night, May 26, in the school gym. Of the six seniors, Kerry Howell alone holds the distinction of having gone through six school years without missing or being tardy a day. Howell has made
his way to school each morning by means of bus, car, or even foot. Sidney Olivier is close behind Howell with five perfect years. During those five years, Olivier has walked or ridden to school. Russell Howley, living the farthest from school, 2325 Laurel Street, rode the bus for three years before taking his car this year. Gary Albrecht walked to school
Howell Honored As Salutatorian Kerry Howell, senior of Room
2, will speak as salutatoria n at Senior Award Night, May 26, in
the school gymnasium . Howell won this honor as a result of having the second highest scholastic average among all the seniors. Kerry has been attending St. Aloysius for six years. He has a perfect attendance for this period and has been a consistent member of the Honor Roll. iHe is the President of the Junior-Sen ior Confratern ity of the Sacred Heart' and was selected to represent St. Aloysius in the annual \VNOE-Ideal Boy Contest. Also a member of the track team, Kerry was an important factor in many of the thinclad victories this season.
Students Finish Elementary Education; Mass Highlights Graduation Exercises
Eighth grade commence ment exercises will take place next Friday at 9:30 A.M. in the _?cJ:tg.~l _ gymnaslunr .· Activities will begin at 8: 15 A.M. with attendance at Holy Mass in St. Augustine' s Church. Russ Papalia's Orchestra Featured At Senior Prom St. Aloysius staged its Senior Prom, Monday, May 16, in the Tulane Room of the Jung Hotel from 8 to 12 P.M. As has been traditional in past years, the music was provided by Russ Papalia's orchestra. Although the Prom was formal for the girls, it was informal for the boys. Brother Mark S.C. principal, gave the seniors the option of wearing tuxedoes or suits. Punch and sandwiche s were served, and members of the Mothers' Club acted as chaperones . .Brother Louis, who handled the details of the Prom, attributed the large turnout to the fact that the Prom was the last big social event for the seniors.

Out of 431 students who took the freshmen entrance exam only 280 will be accepted this coming September , and 115 of these are graduating eighth graders of St. Aloysius. Besides these, 200 sophomore s, 200 juniors and 160 seniors are expected to fill the classrooms next school year. Only two eighth grade classes will be occupied by the 70 pupils who were chosen out of 212 boys taking entrance exams.
