Supported by several local companies, the ninth annual Retro Run began at the Nailers Arms in Bournheath and saw cyclists stop off at pubs in Fairfield and Belbroughton.

Nick Griffin, one of the organisers, said: “Another outstanding turn out this year... I met some right cool characters, who had heard about this little ride, and thought theyʼd come along and give it a go! I also met up with quite a few Retro Run veterans, some of which have been with us since day 1! Itʼs great that what ever walk of life you lead, we all get on a bike and ride together. It also amazes me how generous you guys are!!

Kelly Broadfield, manager at Dodford Childrenʼs Farm, said: “We are so happy The Retro Run decided to support the charity and would like to thank the organisers and everyone who took part. The money raised will go towards improving our facilities and helping us offer more disabled and disadvantaged children a memorable visit to Dodford Childrenʼs Holiday Farm.” If you are interested in sponsoring the 2020 event please get in touch: facebook.com/theretrorunbikeride, or email: theretrorun2011@gmail.com

The annual Hill Climb event started at The Chateau Impney in September 1957. A decade of thrilling motor sport followed before the event stopped taking place in 1967, when its popularity started to dwindle.

The 100th anniversary of Bentley Motors and the 60th anniversary of the Mini were also celebrated at the event and there were flypasts by a Lancaster Bomber. There was a vintage fair, working steam engine from the Severn Valley Railway and the world famous Demon Drome Wall of Death motorcycle stunt show. Catshill Garage has been a keen supporter of the event since 2015. The Woodhouse family has a strong history of single seater racing cars and the Garage offers significant advice and support to anyone looking to prepare vehicles for racing.

After an almost 50 year absence, the Hill Climb returned to Droitwich in 2015 and the Sunday Times referred to it as one of the ʻTop 10 must-see summer motorsport events”.

Rockin’ Good Good Summer Summer for for Young Young Musicians Musicians AARockin’ Young musicians from Bromsgrove Rock School enjoyed a rockin’ good summer performing at two outdoor events in June and taking part in the final of Redditch Has Talent, ahead of their end of term gig on Sunday 7th July. Kicking off their Summer of Rock, members of Bromsgrove Rock School performed live at Blackwell Music Festival on 15th June. Just a week later the young musicians took centre stage again, at the Primrose Hospice summer fete, playing to a large crowd on a gorgeous sunny afternoon. Primrose Hospice communications officer, Catherine Phillips, said: “Everyone was blown away by how talented the children were and it was lovely to see young and old sitting in the Hospiceʼs garden, enjoying listening to the different bands play. Bromsgrove Rock School helped to make our fete an extra special day.” She continued: “We had more than 1000 people through the gates and managed to raise over £5,500 towards keeping our vital

Shortly after these outdoor gigs, one band and two solo performers from Bromsgrove Rock School were on stage at the Palace Theatre in Redditch, as finalists in the fifth Redditch Has Talent competition. Despite passionate performances from Storm Cox, Phoebe Gates and rock band ʻSpoonʼ, none were successful in scooping a top prize. However, their performances were extremely well received by the audience and it was another great opportunity for the young musicians to gain valuable experience infront of a very large audience.

Sunday 7th July saw the talented youngsters take to the stage for the last time in summer 2019 with their end-of-term gig, at Stoke Prior Sports and Country Club. ʻBOSSIʼ opened the show with ʻRadioactiveʼ (Imagine Dragons), followed by ʻBoulevard of Broken Dreamsʼ (Green Day). But it was their inaugural performance of ʻTeenage Dirtbagʼ (Wheatus) which gained the loudest applause. The new junior band then took to the stage without leader singer Tigo (who was ill), but other Rock School vocalists stepped in to ensure their two songs, ʻSeven Nation Armyʼ (The White Stripes) and ʻSmells Like Teen Spiritʼ (Nirvana) were well delivered.

Soloist Phoebe Gates, playing the ukulele, performed a totally unexpected and equally brilliant rendition of Elvisʼs ʻCanʼt Help Falling In Loveʼ. Whilst Storm Cox showcased her varied talents playing guitar and then keyboard for two solo performances which received a rapturous response. ʻSpoonʼ closed the show with the hugely entertaining heavy metal AC/DC Medley which had taken them to the final of RHT. Bromsgrove Rock School meets every Saturday morning during term time at St Johnʼs Middle School in Bromsgrove. It offers budding musicians and singers, aged eight to 18 years, the chance to work with other young people as part of a band, working towards an end of term live gig. It is a safe learning environment where the musicians can test a variety of skills, to help them identify where their true talents lie.

The Door What if we had the chance to relive our lives, not to make the same mistakes again Those of you who are happy would certainly say no chance. But what if your so called happy life turned out to be a lie, a sham and the opportunity presented itself magine you had a second chance to try again. ow many of us would take the gamble to dip our toes into uncharted waters Well, the main character, oppy ay, believes that indeed she is living that gifted life. Then one day, she discovers the oor , the all powerful oor that has the power to change her life forever. oes she make that leap into the

unknown, or does she play it safe and persevere with her humdrum life with her partner, imon ortunately for her, she feels like she is at a crossroads in her life and yes, she takes that leap into the unknown. The oor delivers her to a new place in her life. oppy then realises that things are not as they seem, she has travelled back in time by ten years. oppy soon gets distracted by a new handsome man in her life called amuel evere. Together they go on a rollercoaster ride of intrigue, love and se ual fantasy.

They certainly nd love but can they nd a way through the frustrations and obstacles put in the way by the oor The uestion is, will they survive and still be together at the end of the ourney STEVE DAVIS
