We just wrapped up another show season and though traffic was “flat but optimistic,” according to most, it was a busy summer. We completed another Retailer Excellence Awards gala in Dallas, got stuck in Atlanta for days after the global IT outage, battled dehydration in Vegas, and hounded our New York-based sister publication editors about NY Now and Shoppe Object. It was a summer that was equal parts exhausting and reenergizing, for sure!
Every year around this time, we start thinking about the future: What product categories will be hot for the coming year? What cool trend will hit the scene and cause a shopping craze? It’s all a part of creating our annual Gift Book, for which we survey consumers, conduct editorial research and craft valuable product trend reports to help drive business decisions in the coming year.
It’s one of my favorite assignments because it’s filled with interesting factoids, and we get to focus on everything that’s new! But, for 2025, it seems that what’s new is actually what’s old!
And now it’s time to properly assess what actually happened these last few months. The top two questions that we get as editors covering the markets are: “What’s trending?” and “How’s traffic?”
Of course, we’ll definitely see new trends for 2025, which you can read about in this issue, but the most interesting thing to me about this year’s Gift Book trend predictions is the fact that consumers appear to be looking to decades past for new style inspiration.
Younger generations are bringing new life to retro ’50s illustrations, ’80s and ’90s fashions, traditional home décor and even historical vibes from decades long past.
And, honestly, if you asked me at markets, I probably avoided your question or put you off! Not because I didn’t want to answer it, but because it’s difficult to answer those questions when you’re in the middle of it. When we’re at market, we are in “absorption mode,” and it’s not until we go back home and brainstorm together that we enter “analysis mode.” So now that we’ve had time to settle back into our home offices, we’re offering you this issue as our market recap.
For several of our 2025 trend projections, the olden days play a significant role. In fact, “vintage vibes,” a new home décor style that surfaced over the summer, ranked as the third-most popular design style for respondents to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, with 20 percent saying they identify with it.
“Younger
“Now that we’ve had time to settle back into our home offices, we’re offering you this issue as our market recap.”
To answer the first question about what’s trending, we’ve focused our main retail feature on the biggest product trends we noticed at market, from statement diffusers to vintage vibes.
This interest in Bridgerton-like vibes is a natural development after we saw an uptick in popularity for dinner tapers among Gen Z shoppers the last year-plus. Elaborate table decorations and luxe accents, like plush velvet figurines in moody gemstone colors will continue to complement the trend throughout 2025, especially for the holidays.
And to answer the question about market traffic, it was OK. I wouldn’t say it looked like any markets broke any records, but it wasn’t insanely slow either. Some of the exhibitors I talked to mentioned it being slow, but that business was still good thanks to online orders and road reps. Other exhibitors expressed record-breaking numbers thanks to fewer, but larger orders, while some vendors said business was great thanks to pre-booked appointments.
generations are bringing new life to retro ’50s illustrations, ’80s and ’90s fashions, traditional home décor and even historical vibes from decades long past.”
Area rugs and welcome mats, traditional home décor elements that first gained massproduced popularity in the early 1900s, are also resurging in popularity thanks to consumers’ interest in styles of old.
When you consider all of this with the fact that this summer market season seemed to be cursed, after the global IT outage grounded countless flights during Atlanta Market and a semi-truck explosion blocked I-15 from California during Las Vegas Market, I’d say the season fared pretty well against the odds! Others, like my editorial director Bill McLoughlin, would say the question about traffic misses the point entirely.
While consumers looking for a minimalist style avoided the extra layers, shoppers now are opting for a “more is more” approach. According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, area rugs and welcome mats were selected as the most popular home furnishings category, replacing decorative accents.
As he pointed out in an online column: “Business is soft. No doubt about it. But the real issue isn’t how many attended Market A, B or C, but rather what did they find when they got there? The recovery, when it comes, will be supported by changing market conditions, but it will be driven by product — great product.”
Better known for its rooster icons and chicken-wire accents, the farmhouse chic home décor style is also experiencing a boost in popularity as interest in “going green,” and “buying fresh” rises. Decorative accents that feature fresh citrus, berries and vegetables are breathing new life to the age-old trend that was formerly more popular with older generations. A wink to a hippier, farmers-market vibe, the refreshed trend is attracting younger consumers.
Some of those great products are featured here, both in our market trend feature up front and our trending gifts stories near the back. Because, honestly, for us, markets are mostly all about the products! So, have fun perusing the new lines and keep a positive outlook. When the economy bounces back, you don’t want to be caught with stale goods.
Of course, those aren’t the only insights included in this issue. Enjoy perusing the research and trend reports and see what other valuable conclusions you find — you might even draw some new ones yourself!

Turning the page on what’s trending.

Now in its 11th year, the Gifts & Decorative Accessories Gift Book offers a glimpse into what is currently resonating with shoppers across all age groups and where they are likely to spend their gifting dollars in the year to come.
This year’s consumer survey results show some continuing trends as well as some changes. For instance, while every demographic embraces the casual comfort decorating style, at least one-fifth of respondents are on board with a vintage vibes look — a new choice among the list of design styles. This nostalgic décor is especially popular with Gen Z, which ranked it third among all the options.
A new option among home décor products consumers are looking to buy in the next 12 months also rocketed up the list. Area rugs and welcome mats were selected as the most popular home furnishings category, replacing decorative accents. Only Gen Z didn’t put it first or second on their shopping list, opting instead for wall art as their No. 1 choice.
One of the constants within the survey relates to the allimportant holiday shopping season. Similar to last year’s results,
about one-quarter of consumers will begin Christmas shopping right after Halloween wraps up, while one-third will wait until the more traditional post-Thanksgiving/Black Friday launch date. However, another 10 percent said they’ll be motivated to shop by a special sale rather than a specific calendar date.
Here are some other findings from this year’s report:
• At 36 percent, coloring books were the No. 1 stationery item consumers said they would buy for others, yet just 15 percent would buy one for themselves. What would they most often purchase for their own use? Wall calendars.
• Millennials are the biggest spenders when it comes to handbags, with 20 percent willing to spend $200 or more, while Gen Z rivals baby boomers for being most frugal.
• Floral and botanical candle fragrances are tops among all generations of shoppers, while unscented candles rank lowest across the board.
• Gen Z likes to buy gift sets because of the value story, but older shoppers all prefer the experience of accessing multiple products.

Area rugs and welcome mats are the most popular home furnishings category consumers plan to purchase over the next year, followed closely by decorative accents.

Gifts & Decorative Accessories fielded an exclusive online consumer survey in July 2024 about gift products and home decorating.
The survey garnered 575 responses. The respondents included 78 people from Gen Z, 132 millennials, 226 members of Generation X and 139 baby boomers. The survey also represents responses from 145 households with incomes below $50,000; 192 households in the $50,000 to $100,000 income range; 176 households earning between $100,000 and $200,000; and 56 earning more than $200,000. The sample was balanced nationally based by geographic area, ethnicity, age, home ownership and income groups.
The results explore consumer opinions on buying, owning and giving products in the home décor, candle, dinnerware, holiday décor, gourmet and housewares, fashion and apparel, bath and body, CBD, greeting cards and stationery, toy and general gift categories. Self-expression without saying a word is the premise of this decorative element.

Almost like a blank canvas that’s begging to be personalized, wall art is one of the easiest ways to update living space and call it one’s own. More economical than a gallon of paint — and requiring a lot less time and effort — framed art that adds personality and interest to bare space is a top home décor consideration, particularly for younger consumers.
According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, 43 percent of respondents were most likely to invest in wall art in the coming year, with Gen Zers leading the pack at 69 percent. In fact, interest in this product category diminishes as consumers age, with 56 percent of millennials, 34 percent of Gen Xers and 31 percent of baby boomers saying they would likely purchase it in the next 12 months.
Regardless of who is buying, there are numerous styles of wall art to suit any taste and home.
Urban living lacks a connection to nature, so apartment dwellers are opting for floral prints either in muted tones or vibrant hues. In general, wall art that incorporates motifs of nature will remain popular for their calming and uplifting effect.
Coastal wall art, another popular pick, brings the sand and surf to landlocked residents and can coordinate with existing home décor — the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey reports that 14 percent of respondents describe coastal as their primary decorating style. To enhance the natural element of these themes, wood frames in both plain and distressed fi nishes complement land and seascapes.
Floating frames, where paintings and prints appear suspended without touching the edges, continue to be on trend. By giving the illusion that the featured subject is floating, these images add dimension and depth to small spaces, making them a perfect pick for studio apartments and guest bedrooms.
Holiday decorating also gets a lift from festive signage,

“Whimsical

which is easy to swap out with the changing seasons, especially if the wall art is double-sided or features a replaceable component. Incorporating three-dimensional characters and imagery into the design helps these pieces pop. Whimsical sentiments in different typefaces and fonts give off a vintage vibe, letting homeowners welcome guests upon entry.
While wall art in bright color palettes are best reserved for seasonal celebrations, traditional black and white imagery and lettering works all year long and also fits well with contemporary décor.
As proof that no space is exempt from personalization, laundry rooms and bathrooms are also getting a boost from wall art. Kitschy, retro signage speaks to the laundress who has a sense of humor, as well as to visitors for whom their personal “business” cannot wait.

Harkening back to simpler times and a slower pace is the basis for this design aesthetic.

Unfussy and effortless, combined with sophisticated elegance, is the look homeowners opting for rustic chic are looking to achieve. Otherwise known as cottagecore, this style delivers warm aesthetics via classic and contemporary elements, enabling competing tastes to blend together seamlessly.
A major shift in which age group favors rustic chic/cottagecore décor, millennials are now at the top of the chart with 37 percent, a jump from last year’s 23 percent, as per the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey. Meanwhile, Gen Xers earned the second spot with 27 percent, followed by baby boomers (20 percent) and Gen Zers (13 percent). With 42 percent of millennials buying their first homes, according to a recent Bankrate homebuying trends survey, this demographic is in the market for accent pieces that are unpretentious, yet stylish.
The proliferation of organic materials, including distressed woods, glass and metals, is largely representative of rustic chic decorative accessories. In the kitchen, tea and coffee canisters, napkin caddies, cookbook stands and recipe organizers in these mediums dress up prep space and tablescapes.
Another popular trend, mason jars, has expanded its purposefulness from kitschy barware for craft cocktails, to mini bud and flower vases and salt and pepper shakers. Outside of the kitchen, mason jars and milk bottles are also serving as popular vessels for candles.
To dress up the living room, weathered metal standing shelves serve as unconventional plant stands, while baskets with antique finishes hold books and other household items. Lighting provides another opportunity to expand the cottagecore style, with options ranging from hanging basket pendants to tabletop lantern wax warmers. These styles garner even more interest come fall, when brass lighting in pumpkin and jack-o-lantern motifs add personality and warmth to indoor spaces.

“The proliferation of organic materials, including distressed woods, glass and metals, is largely representative of rustic chic decorative accessories.”
For 2025, the rustic chic/cottagecore design style is getting a small face lift, with consumers mixing in more farmers-market vibes, like products featuring patterns of natural-looking fruits and vegetables.
Rustic chic also comes into play during the holiday season, as consumers look to transform their homes into spaces for entertaining family and friends. Cast iron stocking holders on the mantel are festive focal points during fireside gatherings; popular motifs range from traditional Santas and snowmen, to cowboys and horseshoes that evoke a country Christmas.
Angels take center stage in rustic chic décor, including tabletop statues made of pressed tin and tea light holders in textured metal.

Decorations for warmer seasons add a touch of cheerfulness to the home, rain or shine.
Spring and summer décor is an opportunity to bring new life into the home. After enduring the cold months of winter and packing up the holidays, the season change brings a chance for consumers to re-brighten their homes with fresh décor. According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, 26 percent of consumers plan to shop for spring décor (tied for second with winter) and summer isn’t far behind at 23 percent.
Spring décor is slightly more popular among younger generations than older ones, with 31 percent of Gen Z respondents and 30 percent of millennials planning to shop the seasonal décor, while only 22 percent of Gen X and 27 percent of baby boomers plan to do so.
Some of the trends that emerged from the recent summer markets were geared toward a love of fruit. Patterns of lemons, oranges, watermelon slices and strawberries adorned tea towels, serveware, melamine plates, pillows and more. The bright colors of fresh fruit are inviting and convey a sense of cheerfulness and breezy freshness, and the icons themselves remind consumers of days spent outside, making them perfect designs to use for spring and summer decorations.
Combining these newer trends with the classic décor styles of farmhouse chic and farmers market vibes is going to be a popular trend heading into 2025. Both trends lend themselves to these popular motifs of fruits and vegetables and they are an easy way to add pops of color to already existing décor without straying from the overall style.
Planting veggies, flowers and everything in between is a relaxing hobby that creates a soothing outdoor space, and now consumers are looking to bring that peaceful vibe indoors.

Motifs like snails and mushrooms that were once used solely for garden décor are making their way into the home in new, upscale ways.
Cute critters typically spotted in a garden are coming into consumers’ homes, too — in a noninvasive way, of course. Pillows adorned with caterpillars and butterflies are making waves, as are ceramic shelf pieces featuring frogs and rabbits.
Popular picks lean toward the softened greens and yellows of gardens and ponds, with a classic style that’s reminiscent of storybook illustrations from “Peter Rabbit.” Rustic animal figurines in more modern finishes like gold put a new twist on outdoor-inspired décor for the home, as well.
Of course, don’t forget about traditional garden décor either. As the weather warms, consumers will celebrate with garden flags and stakes, outdoor figurines and yard and porch décor.

Consumers are looking to upgrade their outdoor spaces with decorative objects that are as functional as they are beautiful.

It isn’t called the great outdoors for nothing! Homeowners, especially Gen Xers and millennials, are looking to expand their outdoor living space, according to the 2024 U.S. Houzz Outdoor Trends Study, and garden décor can be key to elevating and expanding that space.
According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, 38 percent of Gen Z, 44 percent of millennials, 41 percent of Gen X and 37 percent of baby boomers plan to purchase outdoor living accessories in the next 12 months. According to Houzz’s research, one-third of all respondents said they wanted to upgrade their outdoor area to make it more livable, and 41 percent of Gen X and 38 percent of millennials were making this a priority. With such a large percentage of consumers in the market for outdoor products, it’s time to get stocked up on trending items for 2025.
What will inspire the decorative outdoor figurines, small-scale statues and bird baths that make up customer’s favorite garden décor pieces? Lots of colorful, artsy bugs, especially caterpillars, snails and beetles, and other garden critters like rabbits, frogs and toads, turtles, birds and even pigs as consumers get more creative.
Mushrooms, which rose to popularity a few years ago in the wake of the cottagecore trend, will continue to be popular, too, and pair well with the creepy crawlers and still-popular gnomes. In addition to replicating wildlife in decorative accents, consumers will also be more interested in welcoming real garden critters into their space. Bird-themed décor and functional pieces like stylish bird houses, bird feeders and bird baths will continue to be popular in the garden space, and in 2025, we will see pollinator-friendly products become bestsellers.
Products that will do well in that theme include “pollinators welcome” signs, bee watering stations, bee houses and more. Frog friendly pieces — which include things like frog and toad

houses and small ponds and water features — will also be more popular and mesh well with cottagecore mushroom looks. Other must-haves in the category include functional pieces like insect-repelling outdoor candles and oil lanterns, rain catchers, rain gauges, sun dials and outdoor clocks.
Sustainability has been a standing buzz word in the indoor and outdoor décor industry for years, and according to a 2023 study by NielsenIQ, 78 percent of U.S. consumers say that a sustainable lifestyle is important to them. When sourcing sustainable and eco-friendly garden products, look for biodegradable pieces and products made with recycled and upcycled materials like reclaimed wood and recycled plastic. Products made of natural materials like wood and stone will also be important to consumers in 2025.

Blending soothing sounds with elements of Feng Shui and chakra alignment, wind chimes offer both tranquility and emotional comfort.

Wind chimes have long been cherished for their soothing sounds, decorative beauty and harmonic qualities. Their gentle melodies, carried by the wind, evoke a peaceful atmosphere that encourages mindfulness and meditation. In a world that’s saturated with political strife, doom-scrolling and repetitive ads on every streaming platform and social media app, many customers seek ways to unplug and find moments of calm during their day. Wind chimes offer a simple, yet effective means of achieving this, transforming a personal space into a distraction-free haven of relaxation.
A growing trend among wind chimes is the incorporation of elements that promote positive energy, blending modern design with ancient Eastern traditions like Feng Shui or chakra alignment. Feng Shui-inspired wind chimes are carefully designed to facilitate a positive flow of energy into a space, often featuring specific materials like metal, wood or bamboo that align with different elements of the practice.
Other wind chimes may be adorned with chakra stones, with each stone corresponding to one of the body’s seven energy centers, inspiring balance and restoration to the body. This fusion of ancient wisdom and modern design makes these wind chimes appealing to customers looking to enhance their environment with natural, healing energy. In the same regard, crystals and gemstones that promote healing energy and other spiritual guidance have continued to rise in popularity over the past decade. Chimes that incorporate the beautiful colors of varying crystals will be popular, too
For those experiencing the loss of a loved one, the symbolism of wind chimes can be particularly poignant. The movement of wind through chimes is akin to the unseen but still felt pres-

ence of a departed loved one that can comfort the bereaved with a connection that transcends the physical. Some chimes even offer musical intonations of a classic hymn, which may allow the grieving party to find spiritual comfort.
Given these characteristics, it’s easy to see how wind chimes may be valued not just as a decorative home accent, but as a lasting tribute honoring the memory of the deceased. With their ability to be personalized, wind chimes add an even deeper layer of meaning to a bereavement gift. Whether engraved with a special message, the loved one’s name, or adorned with symbols of remembrance, a wind chime can become a cherished keepsake, helping the bereaved find peace during a turbulent season of life.
In the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, personalization was a top desired attribute in a gift, so for customers seeking to combine beauty and tranquility with a deep emotional experience, wind chimes are an ideal choice.

Home décor shoppers are as savvy as they are stylish these days, so retailers need to stay informed about the latest trends in sustainability.
Customers have said that sustainability matters to them for years, and in 2025, they are really putting their money where their mouth is. According to respondents who participated in the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, 52 percent said that a product being sustainable/eco-friendly was somewhat or very important to them, and 64 percent of those respondents said they would be willing to pay more for those products. But what green products and movements are they interested in aligning their spending with? After years of discussion and education on the topic, consumers have wised up to many of the greenwashing practices that permeate the industry today, so they will be doing their due diligence and seeking out more authentic products and stories before spending on supposedly sustainable and eco-friendly brands and products.
Green home décor in 2025 will be defi ned by its materials. Sustainable natural materials like bamboo, cork, coconut, straw, cob, and natural fabrics like hemp, wool and jute will be more popular because of their renewability and natural origins. Real woods and stones will be less popular in this category because they are perceived as less renewable and/or recyclable. Repurposed objects — think cardboard and paper, bottles, license plates, fabric scraps, discarded books, and deadstock wallpaper and fabric — will also make a big impact in the space.
Carrying products made with recycled metals, plastics and other material that has to be processed for reuse will also continue to be popular, but keep in mind that many consumers are opting to go plastic-free whenever they can. This is especially true for products related to food preparation and serving due to health concerns about exposure to microplastics. According to a 2024 World Wildlife Foundation survey, the majority of Americans, 85 percent, think plastic waste pollution is a serious and concerning problem that needs to be addressed immediately.

“After years of discussion and education on the topic, consumers have wised up to many of the greenwashing practices that permeate the industry today.”
Before carrying any eco-friendly products and brands, retailers should invest time into researching them just like their customers. Terms like green, eco-friendly, all-natural, earth-friendly, plant derived, organic — but not organic certified — and non-toxic can be used by manufacturers without meeting any legally required testing or standards.
Retailers should look for third-party certifications — like Fair Trade certified, Environmental Working Group Verified, B-Corp, Made Safe and Cradle to Cradle certifications — to be sure they are picking vetted products that meet industry standards for those labels. Transparency also goes a long way when vetting new products and brands, so seek out brands that are willing to share their sustainability goals, production processes, and waste and recycling statistics.

Consumers socializing at home are updating their décor with fun and festive pieces.
In a post-pandemic world, outdoors is still the place to be when it comes to entertaining family and friends. Inflation rates and rising costs for dining out have prompted consumers to stay at home, where they can party on the premises. Not content to dine on dated dishware, however, many are in the market to refresh their al fresco décor.
In fact, 40 percent of respondents to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey plan to update their outdoor décor (including dining) over the coming year, giving retailers an opportunity to bring in a new crop of merchandise.
Functional, yet fashionable is the design mantra for this year’s outdoor décor, particularly when it comes to dining. With 37 percent of consumers expecting to buy casual dinnerware — specifically for outdoor use — and 23 percent planning to purchase melamine dinnerware and acrylic drinkware in the next 12 months, stores can tailor their displays accordingly for the coming seasons.
Elevated melamine that looks like ceramic, but is more durable, is on trend in both place settings and serveware. Bowls and salad plates in this style are touted for their scratch-proof design and are BPA-free for safe eating. Textured styles in warm grays, ivory and corals are popular picks for fall and spring entertaining, as are melamine plates in bamboo paired with bamboo metal flatware.
Simplifying the hosting aspect is key when it comes to outdoor entertaining, and tabletop and textile designers have taken note. Stemless wineglasses in decorative patterns are ideal for outdoor cocktail parties, while machine-washable, dishtowel-style napkins dress up tables while reducing waste. Colorful acrylic wineglasses and cocktail glasses with interesting stems or textures are also on trend and convenient as consumers look to dress up their tables.

“At-home dinner parties, especially popular with millennials and Gen Zers who are embracing their roles as newly minted homeowners, are causing consumers to invest in durable, yet stylish table settings.”
According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, the overwhelming majority of respondents (79 percent) describe their decorating style as casual comfort, and this mentality extends into outfitting the dining table. At-home dinner parties, especially popular with millennials and Gen Zers who are embracing their roles as newly minted homeowners, are causing consumers to invest in sturdy, yet stylish table settings. Vintage-inspired glassware in pastels and lighter jewel tones are taking center stage, with jelly jars and mason jars serving as makeshift water goblets.
Consumers who didn’t inherit hand-me-down place settings are supplementing colorful dishes with mugs, teacups and dessert plates in floral motifs and chintzes. Mix-and-match styles continue to resonate with younger demographics.

Reflecting the casual comfort and relaxed lifestyle of lake living, lakeside décor integrates nautical and rustic accents with personalized and seasonal elements.

Casual comfort, a top home decorating style chosen by respondents to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, is easily embodied in lakeside décor and seamlessly integrates elements of relaxation and simplicity. Since life by the lake tends to evoke scenes of idyllic leisure — lazy days of summer, a serene vacation retreat or a retiree’s peaceful sanctuary — lakeside-living décor, apparel and gifts typically reflect themes of tranquil beauty and appreciation for a slower-paced existence.
Nautical and rustic elements are at the center of lakeside décor, helping to reflect a blend of maritime charm and natural ruggedness.
Muted neutrals like tan, beige and gray, as well as decorative accessories such as weathered wooden signs, driftwood-inspired frames and candles and nautical-themed throw pillows are a perfect fit for this home decorating style. Because they capture the essence of lakeside living with their earthy textures and coastal colors, they’re ideal for inspiring consumers to dream of a cozy, water-themed environment.
Lakeside homes are especially popular among the retired population, making it a great category choice for gifts targeting this demographic. Several lake-themed items feature messaging that resonates with the retired lifestyle, such as “Retired to the Lake,” “On Lake Time” or “Life is Better at the Lake.” These sentiments speak clearly to the blissful state of mind many retirees associate with their lakeside retreats.
Paired with other aspects of retired life, such as sentimental imagery, mentions of grandkids or light inspirational messaging, lake-themed décor has the potential to strike an even stronger chord among consumers who want to fill their home with happy memories.

“Nautical and rustic elements are central to lakeside décor, reflecting a blend of maritime charm and natural ruggedness.”
Seasonal accents are increasingly popular in lakeside gifts as well, allowing homeowners to usher in the changing seasons with décor that reflects their love for the lake. From cozy blankets to kitchen accessories like towels and trays, these products blend functionality with motifs that let customers incorporate the simple pleasures of lake living into their daily routines. Some lake-themed gifts can even be personalized with geographic-specific details, like regional lake names or longitudinal and latitudinal coordinates, appealing to those who want to highlight their special lakeside connection. Retailers wishing to capitalize on this trend may want to expand their offerings to include a variety of customizable seasonal items, ensuring that customers can find the perfect piece to embrace their lakeside lifestyle and make every season a celebration of their favorite destination.

“Backyarding” is bringing the best of indoor living outside via decorative accent pieces.

Outside is in; consumers have found a permanent place where they can extend their personal sense of style beyond their back door. Thanks to a surge in outdoor post-pandemic living that has enabled consumers to socialize safely, homeowners are continually seeking ways to update their decks, porches and yards with decorative accessories.
Due to high interest rates and limited housing inventory that has plagued the real estate market as of late, many consumers are forgoing buying a new home and instead renovating their existing spaces, helping to drive sales of outdoor décor. Products that marry function with a fun vibe do double duty for cost-conscious consumers who want to add personality to outdoor spaces without breaking the bank. According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, 40 percent of consumers plan to buy outdoor décor, such as porch boards, wind chimes, rain gauges, garden flags and outdoor pillows, in the next 12 months, regardless of where they live.
As to who is refreshing their outdoor living spaces, 45 percent of Gen Xers and 54 percent of millennials are making these updates a top priority as per the 2024 U.S. Houzz Outdoor Trends Study. Among the top product picks are rugs (27 percent) and pillows and throws (26 percent).
Growing concern over climate change has trickled down to consumer product development, including outdoor home décor. A recent report from TurfMutt Foundation notes an increase in planting for pollinators, helping to fuel sales of bee and honeythemed wall art, garden flags and decorative pillows.
Incorporating plants into outdoor living spaces, another noteworthy trend, brings green living into the forefront. Planters and plant stands, including weathered ceramic holders and rustic

metal urns, blur the lines between indoor and outdoor design. Also of note are rain gauges disguised as garden décor thanks to the adornment of cute critters, fl oral garden stakes and self-watering plant globes in assorted animal motifs, including butterflies, frogs and birds.
Speaking of fine feathered friends, consumers’ interest in birdwatching is on the upswing, another carryover from pandemic living. As homeowners spend more time outdoors, birdbaths and bird feeders will become natural reflections of their new pastime.
Birdcages will also tap into this design trend, particularly when used unconventionally as a hurricane lamp-style candle holder or as a rustic planter.
Bird-shaped trinket trays in natural wood and embossed with uplifting messages complement outdoor tablescapes, while paying homage to common backyard companions.

Offering customizable, seasonal and locally made options that enhance curb appeal, porch adornments allow homeowners to better reflect their personal style.
One of the biggest joys in home ownership is getting to decorate one’s space with décor that reflects their own expressive style and personality. That’s why it perhaps comes as no surprise that nearly half of homeowners surveyed for the 2025 Gift Book Consumer indicated an interest in buying outdoor accessories such as porch boards and door hangers to update their home décor.
Whether showing off hometown pride, dressing up the home for a special season or adding a humorous flair, porch adornments are ideal for homeowners wanting to make a great first impression with neighbors, visitors and passersby.
Porch boards, whether expressing a general sentiment of “Welcome,” or a special message for the season, are especially popular since they make a large statement that can be seen easily from the road.
According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, nearly two thirds (64 percent) of consumers are willing to spend more for a product that is eco-friendly and sustainable. Reversible porch boards meet this demand by allowing consumers to refresh their porch’s appearance to reflect the current season or holiday — think three stacked pumpkins for fall on one side and a festive snowman for Christmas on the other — without having to invest in entirely new decorations. This not only adds to the overall value and profitability of the product, but also caters to eco-conscious shoppers looking to minimize waste, save on storage needs and maximize the lifespan of their décor items.
Door hangers, wreaths and other art for the door are another popular choice for customers looking to personalize and refresh their home’s threshold. Adding a pop of color with a vibrant door decoration can instantly liven up an otherwise plain

door, making bright florals and happy pastel hues an appealing choice, especially when paired with an uplifting or humorous message.
Finally, offering personalization options, such as monograms or custom messages, can further enhance their appeal, making them a must-have for any customer looking to add charm and character to their home.
In the 2025 Gift Book, 73 percent of respondents said they’d be willing to pay more for a product that is locally made. Handcrafted pieces provide ample opportunity to feature designs that give a nod to local landmarks, traditions or artwork. By offering locally made porch boards and décor, retailers can tap into this growing desire for regional authenticity while supporting local artists and strengthening community ties.

Designers put their best foot forward with small decorative rugs that make a bold statement.

An effortless way to outfit any living space, accent rugs add an instant pop of color and personality both inside and outdoors. Consumers appreciate these decorative accessories for their ease of maintenance and their ability to change a room’s look simply by swapping out one style for another. With 56 percent of respondents expecting to buy an area rug and/or welcome mat in the next 12 months, as per the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, stores looking to boost their foot traffic can consider adding the latest styles to their sales floor.
Area rugs provide a pulled-together look throughout the home, including upon entry. Welcome mats are practical housewarming gifts that can reflect the recipient’s interests, as well as their brand of humor. Popular picks range from pets uttering witty sayings to beach life, birds and butterflies. Vivid brights are on trend, in materials like flat-woven yarn designed to withstand wear and tear. Another strong seller, indoor/outdoor mats that resist mold and mildew and ensure product longevity provide more bang for consumers’ bucks. In climates with longer rainy seasons and heavy snowfall, rugs incorporated into seasonal retail displays serve year-round gift ideas.
As with many other home décor product categories, buyers in the market for a new area rug are notably keen on sustainable purchases. The 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey revealed that 37 percent of respondents consider eco-friendly somewhat of an important attribute when purchasing a gift, with 64 percent willing to pay more for green merchandise. Rugs fashioned from recycled materials, like looping yarn, find favor with these types of shoppers.
Popular motifs in rug design span far and wide, largely determined by their place in the home. In the kitchen, farmhouse

chickens and roosters rule the roost, as does the pineapple, serving as the universal symbol of hospitality. Colorful rugs adorned with puppies, kittens and even koalas are finding homes in kids’ bedrooms and playrooms, as are those shaped like safari animals. For those consumers decorating summer homes and secondary residences, rugs with waterfront and country western and lodge lifestyle motifs are a natural fit. Customers looking to add a year-round accent rug or runner to their kitchen, living room, bedroom or bathroom, may opt for a more neutral fit, scoping out rugs in trendy home colors like muted blues, tans and greens.
And no home for the holidays would be complete without a brightly hued area rug. Smaller decorative rugs featuring snow-covered landscapes, cardinals, snowmen and, of course, Santa, can add holiday cheer to the family room or den. Likewise, spooky welcome mats and rugs donning ghosts — or better yet, ghost dogs — are perfect for Halloween. Pumpkins and sunflowers will still reign as favorite fall-time patterns.

Consumers continue to seek bold, expressive fashion statements.

Earrings remain the top jewelry choice, according to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, which asked respondents which type of jewelry accessory they were most likely to purchase over the next 12 months. This year, 46 percent of respondents said they were likely to purchase earrings, compared to 43 percent that said they would purchase necklaces.
Bracelets, rings and hair accessories saw a small decrease in popularity, but were overall comparable to last year’s findings, while pins/brooches saw a 2 percent increase in popularity.
Silver fashion accessories, as well as home accents, were popular at the summer markets, hinting to its return as a favored fashion metal. The 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey confirmed our editors’ suspicion, finding 65 percent of consumers preferred sterling silver or white gold.
Interested in throwback styles, consumers have been putting ’80s and ’90s fashions back on the scene. Of note is the rise in popularity of chunky jewelry, especially large gold and silver earrings that make a statement, and layered necklaces with embellishments.
According to a 2024 article by Marie Claire, “today’s trendsetters and luxury designers are taking cues from the decade of decadence. 1980s fashion trends were all about excess … the bigger, bolder and more maximal an accessory, the better.”
Of note are large, ribbed earrings, enamel pins and decorative brooches, statement necklaces and pearl accents, as seen on the late-great Princess Diana. Paper-clip style earrings and necklaces in thicker designs are also trending.
Today’s consumers are even taking a cue from Joan Collins in the popular ’80s drama Dynasty, whether they know it or not. The TV star sported multicolored gems, layered necklaces and chunky necklaces with added charms. Sound familiar? If

you were shopping during the summer markets, you probably noticed the popularity of charm bars.
Charm bars have become all the rage in just the past year, and since they provide both an in-store experience and a customized product for consumers, they’re going to be a winning addition to inventory in 2025.
Including basic chain-link necklaces, bracelets and earrings and a plethora of charms to choose from, they give consumers the ability to express themselves and create unique accessories, perfectly tailored to their taste.
The beauty of charm bars is that they can aid in the creation of a multitude of accessories, whether a consumer is looking for something more minimal or chunky and bold. Charms that feature gemstones tap into another popular jewelry trend and help to add a pop of color to the accessory.

Consumers are searching for eyewear with a vintage-inspired edge.

Glasses aren’t just a necessity for some — they are a fashion accessory that can take a look from boring to smart with very little effort. From black squared styles to cat eye to wire frames and everything in between, there is something for everyone. But as stylish as they might be, the need for vision correction is growing.
According to the Vision Council, an organization existing since the 1940s with the mission of growing the optical industry, the first quarter of 2024 led to an improvement in the annual total market value forecast, shifting from a 0.33 percent decline to a 0.68 percent increase. With an increase in average screen time and tired eyes, more people than ever are suffering from myopia, or nearsightedness, according to the National Institutes of Health.
There’s plenty of money for a gift store to make in selling corrective eyewear and sunglasses, based on responses to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey. The survey found that, of those who plan to purchase a fashion accessory from a gift store or fashion boutique in the next 12 months, 34 percent are likely to buy sunglasses and 5 percent are likely to buy readers.
For the coming year, retro aviators are a classic that is very much back in style, thanks to the resurgence of ’80s fashions. Both in metal frames and cellulose acetate for a lightweight feel, there are options depending on how throwback your customer wants to get.
Oversized frames are also proving popular, as are a modified cat eye that feels both nostalgic and current. Again — consumers are looking for vintage fashion inspiration. And with the 1990s having a strong resurgence in pop culture, wire rim and smaller lens style is back in a big way, too.
For readers and everyday wear, top-bar frames are a bold look that is proving trendy, as are oversized rims, aviators

and cat eye. A tech-inspired edge is also garnering celebrity affection. With consumers still loving natural vibes, eyewear with prints that mimic wood, whether as the full frame or partial accent, will remain on trend going into 2025.
For consumers looking for a popular shade of readers or sunglasses, lavender, 90s-inspired neon and classic black and white are great choices.
While gift stores might not be the first place your customer goes to look for eyewear, readers and sunglasses make for an easy upsell. They can also easily coordinate with trendy jewelry displays and catch the eye of stylish shoppers looking to coordinate their looks.
Keep a rotating rack of glasses by books and other reading materials, along with a freestanding mirror so that they might try on the frames. For sunglasses, cross merchandise with an outdoor display, with items for grilling out, pool or beach accessories, outdoor games and the like.

Consumers seeking comfort and wellness year round are upgrading their cozy footwear options.

Everyone likes to be comfortable, especially at home, making cozy footwear a universal favorite among gift buyers. According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, a quarter of consumers — 25 percent — say they are likely to purchase slippers from a gift shop or boutique next year. That total is slightly higher than last year’s total, 24 percent, and makes up a significant portion of your potential customers.
In 2025, shoppers will be seeking out cozy footwear options with updated materials, fun new styles and trendy wellness features. From durable materials to aromatherapy infusions and potential sock pairings, cozy footwear will have a lot of new to offer.
Consumers are looking to get more out of their footwear purchases today, and that trend will continue into 2025, especially as slippers continue to move outside the home.
More consumers than ever are looking for home footwear options that can withstand quick trips outside without getting ruined. Slippers with more durable, waterproof soles — think thick rubber or cork — are appealing to consumers who might opt to wear them on the go instead of just while lounging around. Fashionable booties and boots — especially those made of faux and real sheepskin — have been especially popular with consumers who are looking for shoes as versatile as the loungewear and athleisure fashions that they have grown to love.
Consumers are also increasingly interested in promoting personal wellness with their footwear choices. Memory foam padding that provides extra comfort and support will be an important attribute. Don’t forget about fabrics infused with moisturizing ingredients like shea butter and essential oils for aromatherapy as they are also growing in popularity.

“Shoppers will be seeking out cozy footwear options that feature updated materials, fun new styles and trendy wellness features.”
Want to upgrade your cozy footwear options? Do not underestimate the power of socks in this category. According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, socks were the third most popular fashion accessory — tied with fashion jewelry — to buy at a gift store/fashion boutique, beating out scarves, hats, sunglasses and more.
And, according to a 2022 survey from market research company Circana, 64 percent of U.S. adults tend to wear socks in some form around the home, and nearly a quarter of them, or 22 percent, prefer to wear just socks. A third of those adults like to pair socks with some form of footwear, such as slippers, in the house. Whether your customers prefer to get cozy by pairing socks with their slippers or by just rocking socks by themselves, be sure to stock plenty of thick, comfortable options. For those that prefer to wear just socks, socks with rubber grips on the foot are a good option as it can help prevent slipping and falling on hard floors.

The scent experience is going beyond olfactory senses in 2025 as consumers seek out eye-catching and oversized diffusers and fragrancers that blend into their home décor.
Although candles continue to dominate as the most popular home fragrance product among consumers, diffusers and fragrancers are not far behind, loved by consumers for their flameless scenting, continuous fragrance output and flexibility, both in style and fragrance. In fact, according to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, 31 percent of consumers plan to purchase a diffuser in the next 12 months, and 49 percent plan to purchase essential oils to refill those diffusers.
Looking more closely at what will stand out to consumers in 2025, it seems many will be seeking diffusers that look as good as they smell.
A trend our editors spotted during summer 2024 tradeshows, “statement” diffusers and fragrancers are expected to make the biggest splash in home fragrances in 2025 — literally. Oversized diffusers with vessels that hold 30 oz. of fragrance or more instead of the traditional 8-10 oz. diffusers were hard to miss at markets and were new in a number of collections for 2025.
But size isn’t the only thing that matters. These new, out-ofthis-world diffusers and fragrancers are also extremely chic and stylish. Popular designs to keep an eye out for in 2025 are those that have a handmade feel — think a mosaic-style pattern of glass — colorful glass swirls and those made to look like flowers and other home decorations.
To tap into this emerging trend, seek out stylish, refillable vessels that match your customers’ home décor style preferences, and be sure to stock plenty of refill options to encourage customers to make the investment in a bigger and bolder home fragrance option.
Decorative value, according to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, was the third most important attribute to home fragrance shoppers at 42 percent, beat out only by fragrance at 95 percent and price/value at 75 percent.

With fragrance remaining the most important attribute in a home fragrance product, it is important to know what scents your customers will love in 2025. The 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey found that floral and botanical scents will be most popular among consumers again, with 58 percent of survey respondents indicating they would be most likely to purchase a home fragrance with that scent, followed by fresh scents like linen at 54 percent and citrus and spiced scents, tied at 50 percent.
Taking a closer look at rising trends for the year, it seems scents inspired by travel — especially to warm, welcoming summer destinations — will rise in popularity in 2025, too. These scents take inspiration from the post-pandemic travel boom and other travel-related trends like “eurosummer” looks in fashion. Additionally, gourmet scents, ranked as fifth most popular in the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, will be highlighted with boozy, cocktail-inspired notes for 2025.

Modern wax warmers are reimagining the way consumers enjoy home fragrances, blending creativity with convenience in their design.

In recent years, fragrant, flameless alternatives to traditional candles have been steadily catching the eyes of customers who want both aesthetic appeal and a safer, customizable way to scent their homes.
According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, more than a quarter of total respondents named wax melts as a home fragrance gift they are interested in purchasing within the next 12 months, so retailers hoping to target these consumers may wish to highlight the creativity and convenience afforded by these products.
A standout feature in a growing number of today’s wax warmers is the inclusion of silicone dishes atop metal warming plates. As their name suggests, these dishes enable easy removal of cooled wax melts by simply flipping the dish inside out and disposing of the wax, allowing customers to swap out scents as often as they like. Some new wax warmers are also foregoing the hassle of bulb changes, relying solely on the warming plate to heat the wax. This not only simplifies maintenance but also ensures a consistent and even wax melt. Finally, pluggable fragrance warmers highlight a growing trend toward compact home fragrance options that offer a space-saving alternative to standard models.
Beyond functionality and convenience, wax warmers have also become stylish pieces of home decor. Designs range from rustic, farmhouse chic to sleek, modern styles, with many warmers featuring decorative windows or patterns that allow light to shine through, casting a warm, cozy glow in any room.
Unique takes on form, such as warmers shaped like houses, churches or whimsical forest animals add a playful touch, making these gifts as much a part of a room’s themed accents as they are a source of fragrance. In contrast, warmers with a simple design blend easily into several decorating styles.

Of course, wax warmers are only as good as the wax they are melting. Wax melts with an artisanal flair offer an additional selling point to customers who want unique and high-quality home fragrance options.
These melts often feature elegant embellishments such as gold flakes, dried flowers, or cinnamon chips, adding a touch of luxury to popular floral, fresh citrus and warm spice scents. These decorative elements both elevate the visual appeal of a wax melt’s packaging and infuse the scented wax with subtle, complementary fragrance. As the demand for convenient and low-maintenance fragrance solutions continues to grow, incorporating stylish wax warmers and melts into a product range can help retailers attract customers seeking both practicality and elegance in their home scenting choices.

For many consumers, nothing holds a candle to the details and surprising touches that can be found in handmade products.
Candles continue to top the charts in home fragrance popularity. According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, 77 percent of survey respondents reported plans to purchase at least one candle in the next year, making it the most popular home scent choice by more than 15 percentage points. Candles are considered by many to be an everyday luxury, and handmade candles upgrade the experience for consumers by offering more variety, more artistry and even more customization.
One benefi t of handmade candles and the smaller product runs often associated with them? More experimental fragrance options. From dupes of everyday scents like fresh-cut grass and fire to foods like barbecue and even more complex takes on popular scents like exotic botanicals, handmade candles can offer a little of everything.
Looking at overall candle scent popularity moving forward, the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey found that floral and botanical scents will be most popular among consumers again, with 58 percent of survey respondents indicating they would be most likely to purchase a home fragrance with that scent, followed by fresh scents like linen at 54 percent and citrus and spiced scents, tied at 50 percent.
Outside of scent, handmade candles also offer distinctive features and looks like specialty shapes — think candles shaped like foods, words and other objects — and handmade or recycled vessels made of things like upcycled wine and liquor bottles. Candles themselves can also be artfully hand-decorated with patterns, artistic scenes, season’s greetings and more. These candles can be displayed like small works of art that add a splash of decoration to any room. Handpainted candles also feel unique and special, making them exciting purchases for

consumers looking for something different.
Unique and reusable vessels — also handmade at times — will continue to help candles stand out in 2025, too. Sustainability has been a standing buzz word in many categories over the years, and according to a 2023 study by NielsenIQ, 78 percent of U.S. consumers say that a sustainable lifestyle remains important to them, so offering food-safe vessels that can then be used as a mug or bowl once the candle is finished, or a vessel that can be used as a planter or vase, will continue to peak consumer interest.
The popularity of adding non-wax decorative objects and gifts inside of candles is also projected to continue growing. Riding off the popularity of things like bath bombs with surprise centers and mystery toy bags, candles embedded with crystals, metal tokens, toys, jewelry and even motivational messages and shark teeth will only grow in 2025.

Are your customers looking for “clean candles” or “better burns?” Get ready to double check that ingredients list.

As popular as candles are — candles remain the most popular home fragrance according to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey — they have their problems. Concerns over unhealthy ingredients, uneven burns, indoor air quality and even fire safety can make candles a tough sell for some shoppers, 40 percent of whom consider clean ingredients and 31 percent of whom consider function to be an attribute that most influences their decision to buy a candle.
When the bulk of consumers say they are looking for “clean candles” and “better burns,” they’re really describing a search for candles made with natural ingredients and fragrances. Plant-based, natural waxes made of materials like soy, beeswax and coconut are considered by many to be more healthy than synthetic waxes like paraffin.
But experts advise sourcing carefully if natural waxes are important to your customers. Wax blends can be misleading, as can labels like “soy based,” because blends can contain as little as 1 percent soy wax and still be labeled as a “soy wax blend” or “plant-based wax.” Look for candles labeled as being 100 percent plant-based, 100 percent beeswax, etc. if your customers have expressed interest in finding more natural candle options. Fragrances can be just as difficult to navigate as waxes because manufacturers in the U.S. can use “fragrance” as a catchall term in ingredients lists to refer to hundreds of different chemicals that make up different fragrances.
To be “safe,” some consumer groups like the Environmental Working Group suggest using phthalate-free candles scented with 100 percent essential oils, but there is a lot of debate in the space about that, too.
Replicating some scents is difficult or even impossible with naturally derived fragrances and essential oils, and even though they are not “natural,” chemical engineers working in the

fragrance space point out that the synthetic versions of some compounds are “chemically identical” to their natural counterparts. Essential oils also have a lower boiling point and often evaporate/burn off more quickly than other fragrance types.
For consumers concerned about buying safe, even-burning candles, new innovations in wick designs will be important in 2025. Wicks reinforced with metal cores to enhance stability and self-trimming wicks that curl and extinguish after reaching a certain length, reducing the risk of excess soot and fire, are great examples of those designs. Not only are they safer, but they also keep candles looking nice, too.
Sustainable, natural wick options, like those made from cotton, wood or hemp, appeal to consumers seeking clean ingredient candles and more eco-friendly products, too.

Consumers love refreshing their homes for the season, and the easiest way to do that is with seasonal home fragrances.

Refreshing your home décor or changing up your home’s ambiance is a great way to boost your mood, and the easiest way to spruce up a space is by swapping out its fragrance. This is why consumers love buying seasonal candles and home fragrances, whether it’s to help them ring in autumn, get in the holiday spirit or freshen up for summer.
According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, 43 percent of respondents said they planned to buy a food-scented candle, which is a popular choice for seasonal purchases.
Anything rich in cinnamon notes, like pumpkin spice-, apple pie- and cinnamon roll-scented candles always do well for the fall season, while the fragrance of fresh-baked cookies is a Christmastime favorite. These scents work great for colder months because they feel warm and inviting, while also reminding owners of special memories.
According to the same survey, 50 percent of respondents said they planned to buy a home fragrance option with notes of spice, like cinnamon, cardamom, clove or vanilla.
As consumers continue to search for unique products for 2025, candles and home fragrances that have a warm, freshbaked scent of a more unusual treat, like warm bread or pistachio cake, or that have more complex seasonal notes, like a fireside pumpkin, will attract shoppers’ attention.
Spirit-inspired fragrances have been trending for the last year and are continuing to gain traction as the DIY gourmet cocktail culture remains on the rise. Candles, wax melts and diffuser oils that mimic the smell of gourmand cocktails for the season, like a boozy eggnog, mulled red wine, spiked apple cider, or bourbon-rich anything will be popular seasonal purchases for 2025. Lighter cocktail-inspired fragrances like those that mimic the

notes of an Aperol spritz or fruity prosecco are perfect for the summertime.
Candles are still the No. 1 Christmas category consumers plan to purchase, according to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, so Christmas-themed fragrances should be at the top of your sourcing list for the holidays.
The theme of gingerbread men and houses has risen as a popular Christmas décor choice, which means gingerbread-scented fragrances should sell well from fall through wintertime. On that same note, warm holiday spices like clove mixed with notes of citrus is a fall and Christmas classic and can be burned throughout both seasons.
Christmas-tree scented fragrances like balsam fir or frasier fir will continue to be popular, as will other seasonal nature-inspired notes like mistletoe, cedar, spruce and birch.

Personal care sales continue to rise as men look for products specifically to meet their needs.
Do men’s bath and body care needs vary from women’s? Market research suggests a resounding, “yes.” Products specific to men’s personal care have been on the rise over the last decade, and this trend is expected to continue through 2030 at least, according to Grandview Research, highlighted in their “Market Analysis Report, Men’s Personal Care Market Size, Share & Trends Analysis Report, 2022-2030.” What was valued at $8.9 billion in 2020 for the U.S. market alone is expected to reach $67.2 billion by 2030.
The products included in this category aren’t reduced to simple grooming or deodorant — the category spans soaps, lotions, fragrances, hair care and more. According to global data and business intelligence platform Statista, men are broadening their horizons, purchasing moisturizers, facial cleansers, eye serums, bronzers, concealers, anti-agers and even mud masks. Now more than ever, men are in the market for products specifically formulated to address their needs.
According to Circana, formerly known as the NPD Group, which has analyzed consumer buying habits since 1966, the men’s prestige fragrance market has grown, with it being a key gift idea for consumers, particularly for Father’s Day. Notably, men’s fragrance gift sets prove to be increasingly important — consumers find value in sets and retailers are wise to dedicate shelf space for these products.
For retailers looking to capitalize on the demand for men’s fragrance, consider carrying unique brands that offer scents that will make him feel special. Popular scents range from ocean-inspired, like sea spray and coconut husk, to a Western-style combination of eucalyptus and desert sage. Woodsy profiles are of course timeless in profiles such as oak moss, birchwood and tonka, as are warm Bourbon notes.
These fragrances are also popular for men’s bar soap and

body washes. As consumers continue to practice “scent layering,” buying deep into a single fragrance for multiple products, consider displaying several men’s grooming gifts by fragrance.
Gender lines have increasingly blurred, with nonbinary identification making clear products for men and women less relevant. Depending on your average customer, it may be worth rethinking the organization of your store. Consider creating a space specific to personal care in general, organizing by fragrance profiles instead.
Men’s and women’s bath and body products often will have a more tropical slant for each, or a more earthy slant. The biggest questions to ask are whether or not the products are high quality, if they are effective, and if they have a fragrance, do they smell incredible.

CBD offers many benefits that your customers are looking for — education for your sales staff is key.

The healing benefi ts of CBD are impressive, with claims of reducing inflammation, pain relief, neutralizing redness and irritation, and even healing conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. While some consumers are still skeptical, others are converted believers, looking for the miracle ingredient in more and more products, ranging from skin care to body care and even hair care.
According to market research company The Brainy Insights, the CBD skincare market is expected to grow over the coming years owing to rising consumer awareness regarding the benefits of CBD. Specifically, CBD oil is the bestselling CBD-based product, accounting for 35 percent of the market share in 2021. The oil can be rubbed into the skin, accelerating healing for cracked heels, irritated skin and scalp dryness, along with myriad uses.
According to Allied Market Research, the CBD skincare market size is expected to reach $1.1 billion by 2026. If it’s right for your store, you can benefit from this demand and better serve your customers who are looking to try and purchase CBD goods within the comfort of their favorite gift retail location.
One misconception about CBD products is that they smell like the plant the CBD is derived from. While some more medicinal-forward products might carry a faint scent, most bath and body companies have put effort into making the fragrance extremely appealing, ranging from profiles like baked goods to fresh scents such as ocean-inspired or floral.
Some CBD products will feature seasonally appropriate fragrance add-ins, like watermelon or berries for the summertime. Citrus notes are popular year round since they add a feeling of freshness and alertness to the product.
Products with CBD or hemp oil also often include other nourishing ingredients like shea butter or fruit extracts to round

them out and add extra benefits, like anti-aging.
Another misconception is rather obvious but is worth mentioning: There are no mind-altering effects from topical CBD products. The psychoactive ingredient in the cannabis plant that causes mind-altering effects, THC, is isolated and removed in the extraction process, so the user can enjoy the many benefits of cannabinoids without being impaired.
Lastly, as of September 2024, CBD is completely legal in 47 U.S. states, excluding Idaho, Nebraska and South Dakota. If your store is located in these locations, review local laws prior to purchasing to ensure you’re stocking your floors appropriately.
The best thing you can do for your customers is offer samples and educate your sales staff on what CBD is, how it works and what its benefits are to demystify the ingredient. You can be a comfortable and safe space for people of all backgrounds to buy CBD bath and body products and enjoy their many benefits.

From the quality of ingredients to subtle fragrance and presentation, luxury soap is a winning gift.

Luxury soap can turn the essential task of hand and body washing into a spa-like experience for one to look forward to. Depending on the quality and active ingredients of the soap, it can do much more than sanitize — it can moisturize, generate cell turnover for anti-aging effects, add fragrance to the skin and serve as a decorative item next to a sink or in a shower. Soap in the gift industry has become so much more than a necessity — it provides a moment of luxury.
According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, 19 percent of consumers are extremely likely and 35 percent are somewhat likely to purchase bath and body products as a gift in the next year. Of those consumers, 35 percent are likely to buy bar soap from a boutique store, and 47 percent are likely to buy liquid or foaming hand soap from a boutique store.
That means there is a good chance that your customer will walk in looking for a nice gift, whether for the occasion of housewarming, a hostess gift or just because. Here’s what to look for in soaps for the coming year.
Luxury soaps come in both bar and liquid form, and it’s essential to offer both for your customers. Bar form is best paired with a little soap dish for an upsell, and liquid does well paired with a hand lotion in the same fragrance. If it comes as a gift set with a caddy, all the better. Some gift sets up the ante by pairing the soap with matching paper towels for a complete experience. The presentation is part of the experience, so elegant or stylish containers are well received. Decorative labels that mirror the fragrance help to elevate both bar soaps and liquid soaps, too, and add decoration to the bathroom or kitchen counter.
Popular decorations — and matching fragrances — include pumpkins and sunflowers for fall, balsam fir, peppermint or sugary confections for winter, and flowers with bees or butterflies for spring and summer.

“There is a good chance that your customer will walk in looking for a nice gift, whether for the occasion of housewarming, a hostess gift or just because.”
Fragrance is a big part of the appeal with luxury soap, as a good one can leave your skin nice and soft with a subtle scent. Seasonal fragrances such as fresh pumpkin, juniper, Japanese cherry blossom and sea spray sell well, or fragrances that seem to have no seasonal connection, such as vanilla, citrus fruits or santal.
Essential oils found within the formula can have skin brightening effects on top of the fragrance, and those tend to be a commonly liked scent, such as lavender, eucalyptus or even vetiver. They can even have a calming or energizing effect, depending on what is needed in the moment.
For every need and preference, there is a luxury soap on the market — put out testers and let your customers discover the one for them.

Consumers are becoming savvier by reading the ingredients label to find more natural and sustainable beauty products.

As consumers grow more concerned with the ingredients they are exposed to and the impact they have on the planet, natural beauty care appears to be the way of the future. And while the U.S. market isn’t subject to regulation on beauty products, consumers are becoming savvier on reading the ingredients lists to make the most educated decision possible.
According to global data and business intelligence platform Statista, the natural cosmetics segment of the beauty and personal care market was forecast to continuously increase between 2023 and 2028 by in total 5.1 billion U.S. dollars (more than 39 percent). After the sixth consecutive increasing year, the indicator is estimated to reach $18 billion U.S. dollars and therefore a new peak in 2028.
According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, 38 percent of consumers that plan to buy bath and body products in the coming year are most concerned with the products’ list of ingredients. Of those, Gen Z is the most concerned at 47 percent, followed by millennials at 43 percent, Gen X at 36 percent and the boomer generation and older at 29 percent.
The products on the natural beauty shopper’s must-have list? Items with fewer chemicals, items with ingredients they can identify and items with ingredients that serve double duty — think a versatile color stick that works as a cheek or a lip stain, or an oil that can be applied to hair ends for extra hydration or used as a fragrance oil at the pressure points. Lotion that adds shimmer as it moisturizes is also a top choice.
Natural beauty care is all about simplifying — whether it’s reducing the number of ingredients going into the product or minimizing the wearer’s routine.
Top trendy ingredients to look for include plant-based ones, like turmeric, green tea, berry or fl ower extracts, avocado oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, tea tree extract, shea butter, goat’s

milk and aloe vera, as well as probiotics, a new addition that promises ultra hydration and age-defying benefits.
According to the Gift Book Consumer Survey, 16 percent are concerned with packaging, with millennials the most concerned at 25 percent. This means ridding products of excess packaging or packaging the items in a responsible way with easily recyclable containers and boxes.
Not long ago, refillable dispensers from boutique brands were revolutionary. While it’s still not the standard, this is becoming more prevalent, particularly on the West Coast, with refill stations for more mindful consumption. Now, it’s possible for consumers to purchase beauty and personal care products while considering their carbon footprint. Combine that with a healthier ingredient list, and you have a winning product.

The biggest fragrance shoppers are the youngest of consumers — here’s what they are looking for.
Personal fragrance is widely considered to be the final accessory to wear, something that puts the finishing touch on a look. Perfume can act as a calling card, something that can make someone instantly recognizable. And Gen Z — the generation most obsessed with self-expression — has caught on.
Gen Z’s fragrance usage has expanded signifi cantly, up 5 percentage points to 83 percent, according to findings from Circana’s “Fragrance Consumer Report 2023.”
The report found that, compared to total fragrance wearers, Gen Z over-indexes when it comes to a number of factors. Consumers aged 13 through 26 rank highest when it comes to heavy usage, or wearing fragrance at least three times a week, and are now more engaged with the category than millennials. Gen Z is also the generation that is most likely to purchase fragrance for themselves multiple times per year.
In line with Circana’s findings, according to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, 37 percent of consumers who plan to purchase personal fragrance in the coming year are most likely to buy from a boutique store, and 50 percent of those are comprised of Gen Z.
“For success, fragrance brands and manufacturers must capture the hearts and wallets of Gen Z and millennials, who are the most important generations when it comes to use and interest in the category,” said Larissa Jensen, beauty industry advisor at Circana.
Retailers can tap into the youngest of consumer spending by carrying personal fragrance that appeals to them. The question is, what scents do they prefer? To answer this question, along with many others regarding Gen Z, TikTok provides a large database of user-generated content, a popular platform for the generation.

under the category of “PerfumeTok,” and discovered the most popular scents among Gen Z. Notable fragrance profiles are santal, warm sugary vanilla, spicy clove, peppercorn, orange blossom and salted caramel, meaning gourmand or spicy is what the generation is looking for.
If you’re looking to attract millennial, Gen X or baby boomer consumers, consider stocking refreshing scents, like those with clean, sea-inspired notes or warm, citrus notes. With the new trend of “Euro summer” on the scene, a trend that spans across numerous product categories, citrusy notes and fragrances that smell like a warm, summer day will be hot for 2025, as will fragrances inspired by popular European destinations and tropical locales.
To encourage personal fragrance sales, retailers can provide samples and testers and display along with other personal care products, such as lotions, hand soap and body wash, to complete the story and possibly upsell.
If your clientele doesn’t consist of large numbers of Gen Z perfume lovers yet, maybe organize a fragrance event with a small discount with a fragrance purchase to bring them into the store.

From uplifting floral scenes to funny pictures of dogs, birthday card designs run the gamut and make recipients feel extra special.
The best thing about birthdays is that everyone has one, no matter their age or religion!
According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, 92 percent of consumers plan to buy a birthday gift for someone in the next 12 months, making it the No. 1 gift-buying occasion by a landslide. Christmas/Hannukah was the runner-up at 66 percent. Birthday cards have also been the frontrunner card category for many years.
When it comes to buying a birthday card, consumers who responded to the survey say they are looking for ones that are humorous (74 percent) or sentimental (51 percent). The average price consumers expect to spend on a card is $4-$4.99.
There are just about as many birthday cards on the scene as there are people, these days! So how do you know which ones to stock?
For short-and-sweet cards, as well as sentimental birthday cards, beautiful illustrations of flowers and birds are reliable options. They appeal to many consumers and work well for a large segment of recipients. Not only are these scenes usually bright and colorful, and therefore uplifting, but they also feel relaxing and peaceful.
Another safe bet is cards with elaborate or elegant cake designs on the cover. There’s nothing that says “Happy Birthday” like a birthday cake, plus it taps into the popularity of cake-decorating enthusiasts and popular TV shows.
For Birthdays for Him cards, stock options that tap into popular hobbies, like fishing, playing video games or watching football. Humorous cards do especially well for men, too.
Birthday cards for kids that celebrate their exact age are also popular, but they can be a large investment to stock. Cards that feature classic icons of dinosaurs, unicorns, safari animals or rocket ships will remain popular in 2025 and will coordinate

with popular kids’ party themes, too. Consider displaying select birthday cards with matching party decorations and supplies for consumers looking for a coordinated affair.
Finally, any card that feels special with an extra adornment like gold foil or embossing, glitter, rhinestone or an add-on gift like a paper ornament or enamel pin, will continue to draw customers’ attention in 2025 since they feel more luxurious and make shoppers feel like they’re getting the most for their hardearned dollars.
The No. 1 attribute shoppers are looking for in a card, humorous designs and messages will reign supreme in 2025. Humorous cards can include a funny picture with a general birthday message or a general design with a funny message, or both!
The most popular designs for humorous cards are those that feature dogs, cats or other animals with elaborate expressions, as well as nostalgic throwback photos paired with a surprising humorous statement.

Marking special occasions and personal milestones is in the cards for consumers of all ages.
Turning the ordinary into the extraordinary is the magic behind the greeting cards market, one in which consumers need no excuse to send their best wishes in the form of a personal sentiment. According to the Greeting Card Association, Americans purchase 6.5 billion cards per year, and the global card market is expected to expand 0.9 percent by 2030. Such projected growth represents market potential not only for budding designers, but for specialty gift stores where stationery products have yearround appeal.
No birthday is complete without a special card to express the gift giver’s best wishes. For those shopping for the right card to suit the recipient’s personality, consumers have specifi c attributes in mind. In the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, 74 percent of respondents noted humorous as the most important criteria, followed by sentimental cards at 51 percent. Milestone birthdays, as well as gender-specific designs, are also high on consumers’ lists, with 37 percent shopping with this intent in mind.
Silly sentiments remain a popular pick for birthdays and holidays alike. Pop culture factors into the latest designs, including meme-inspired images of caroling cats, cartoonish pets and other giggle-inducing scenarios. Social media also plays an influential role in fueling greeting card designs, adding personality to cards celebrating non-traditional moments like passing a road test, starting college and buying a first apartment.
Greeting card designers are embracing a wide range of styles to appeal to consumers’ varying tastes. Minimalist cards, touting a softened color palette and offbeat fonts, offer a sophisticated look that appeals to those with an appreciation for modernism.
On the other end of the spectrum are interactive cards, including pop-ups and cards packaged with extras like decorative buttons and jewelry. The 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey

notes that 14 percent of respondents plan to purchase these types of cards — styles that can practically serve as standalone gifts themselves — in the year ahead.
When it comes to card shopping, consumers aren’t terribly concerned with cost. In the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, the majority of respondents (21 percent) were willing to spend between $4-$4.99 for the right card, with a close second (18 percent) of consumers expecting to pay between $5-$6.99 per card.
Despite card makers’ budget-friendly offerings and promotions, only 4 percent of shoppers expected to lay out one dollar per card purchase. Still, it pays for retailers to showcase a diverse range of price points in spinner racks and other easily accessible displays.

Enticing packaging is an important factor in the gift-giving process.

Once consumers fi nd the perfect gift, they need to fi nd the perfect gift wrap to finish it off. Some consumers like to keep things simple and streamlined while others enjoy adding some extra flare.
The first step to stocking gift wrap is understanding what special occasions consumers are giving gifts for. According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, birthdays are the top occasion respondents plan to buy gifts for in the next 12 months (at 92 percent). Christmas is a somewhat close second at 66 percent.
But what about the other occasions? Consumers are also planning to shop for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day (46 percent), anniversaries (43 percent) and weddings (30 percent). Stocking a variety of gift bags, gift tags, tissue paper and wrapping paper that fit these occasions will ensure consumers have options to choose from when the time comes.
Less-specifi c options are important to keep on hand, too. Floral patterns, balloons, confetti, stripes and simple designs in trendy colors like pink, green, blue and lavender are perfect for those “just because” gifts — which 32 percent of consumers plan to shop for — as well as any other occasion. General designs are also more cost effective since they can be used for numerous occasions. Wrapping paper with embellishments like glitter or velvet, or even a fragrance, elevate the experience, as do matching gift tags.
Sustainability has been a major buzzword across the industry for years, and the desire to make gift wrap eco-friendly hasn’t been lost.
While gift bags are the fi rst thought — since they can be reused several times if kept intact — biodegradable wrapping paper has been taking over and is just as colorful and

beautiful as traditional paper.
Fabric gift wraps are a new option coming onto the scene. Consider adding some everyday design options to your selection for consumers looking for something new. Patterns inspired by nature are great choices for year-round gifting.
As consumers look for more personalized options, creating their own gift baskets is picking up in popularity.
Personal gift baskets are becoming an easy option for any occasion — from holiday themes like “boo baskets” to some friendly pick-me-up offerings. And while it’s easy for consumers to select multiple products to gift, finding an appropriate presentation for them is a bit more difficult.
Consider stocking some small boxes and baskets in your gift wrap section. You could even craft a DIY display showing off the baskets with coordinating ribbons and bows. And don’t forget the cellophane! Colored cellophane rolls or pre-sized clear basket bags are important to help bring it all together.

From chic disposable napkins and plates to celebratory balloon kits, consumers are looking for festive fare that makes life easier.

Shoppers are busier than ever, juggling demanding jobs, families and home duties, so gifts and supplies that make their lives easier are a big draw, including paper products and other party supplies that make celebrating easier.
Paper plates and napkins are still the top party supplies shoppers are looking for when hosting a celebration, especially birthday parties. But no matter the occasion, there’s sure to be a pattern for whatever theme your customers are looking for.
Popular party themes for 2025 are gingerbread cookies, peppermint stripes, nutcrackers and traditional plaid for Christmas; sage, mint-green and light-colored pumpkins and leaves for Thanksgiving and fall; citrus and bright florals for spring and summer; and wild mushrooms for any occasion. Pheasants in the wild are also emerging as a new Thanksgiving design.
Red, white and blue stars, as well as patterns that highlight strawberries will be hot for summer celebrations. For birthdays, stock plenty of classic balloon and confetti designs, with a few more sophisticated options, like plates with an elegant, tiered cake. For kids’ parties, the trifecta will remain: unicorns, dinosaurs and safari animals.
As customers continue to seek ways to express themselves, seasonal napkins with sweet sentiments and cocktail napkins with a funny phrase will also be popular. Napkins with humorous messaging that hints at the growing cocktail craze tap into the trendy culture and are perfect for consumers hosting a boozy get-together.
Millennials and Gen Z shoppers like hosting Instagram-ready parties with coordinating décor and photo ops, like a balloon arch. Kits that include everything you need to create your own elaborate balloon arch with a matching banner will

continue to be hot for 2025. While pink kits have been popular thanks to the Barbiecore trend, green and lavender kits should do well in 2025, since those are also predicted to be hot colors in home décor.
Other kits that bundle disposable cake decorations, napkins, plates, cups and banners make throwing a cute party a breeze since everything already coordinates. Create a full display of party supplies with confetti poppers, invitations and gift wrap.
In the past, paper products and party supplies were associated with waste, but now that many manufacturers offer products in other materials, there are even options for the eco-conscious consumer.
Disposable plates made of compostable paper, bamboo or palm leaves are still sturdy and convenient, but consumers won’t feel bad about throwing them away since they aren’t harmful for the environment.

With candy sales continuing to grow year after year, it’s worth looking into the trends for 2025.
Nearly any occasion is made better with chocolate, as most people, but especially the National Confectioners Association, can attest. And our survey respondents agree. According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, 81 percent of those surveyed plan to buy chocolate and candy as a gift in the coming year, proving there is a lot of money to be made in sugar.
In fact, total confectionery sales hit $48 billion in 2023, a number largely driven by inflation, according to the NCA’s 2024 State of Treating report, which also projects that U.S. confectionery sales will reach $61 billion by 2028. The trade group added that more than 98 percent of American consumers purchased chocolate, candy, gum and mints in 2023.
So, what will be trending in chocolate and treats in the coming year? At the Sweets & Snacks Expo in May 2024, three key trends stood out amongst the crowd.
First, candy that enhances special moments and occasions will shine. Occasions aren’t limited to traditional candy holidays such as Halloween, Christmas, Hanukkah, Valentine’s Day and Easter either — chocolatey treats with special labels that bare messages like, “thank you,” “feel better,” and “congratulations,” elevate the confection into a special gift for many occasions.
Companies are meeting consumers where they want to be met, too, with innovative new products to celebrate the big four seasons and a variety of package size options that can brighten any moment that calls for it, from major sporting events to summer barbecues and everything in between.
Candy and snacks enhance special moments, including family traditions, social gatherings and seasonal celebrations. Think individually wrapped pieces in festive packaging that go beyond bats and mummy designs.
Consumers will also be delighted by fun and unique textures and flavor combinations. Years ago, the dark chocolate and

salted caramel combination felt revolutionary, or adding potato chips, or popcorn — but now, unexpected is the name of the game. Whether enjoying freeze-dried candy and puffed snacks or a never-before-tasted mix of flavors and textures combined, consumers will be looking for something daring or unique.
Lastly, social media influence has made its way into the sweets and snacks world. Candy and snacks have taken the spotlight on social media as consumers share their favorite innovations, and that will certainly continue for 2025. An interesting new treat or company worth an endorsement? You can expect the upcoming buzz on TikTok and Instagram to include interactive and gamified products.
Of course, traditional chocolate with an eco-friendly or humanitarian related cause will always catch the eye of a socially conscious consumer, and those are certainly winning add-on treat sales.

Pre-made cuisine helps take the guesswork out of globally inspired cooking.

Home cooks like to excite their palates with premade sauces and spices that challenge their typically preferred flavor profile. For decades, premade sauces and mixes have taken the hard labor out of exploring new cuisines, as made-from-scratch cooking is at times a long process. Conveniently, trending grab-and-go options bring exotic flavors from all around the world right to consumers’ kitchens.
According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, 31 percent of consumers planning to buy a gourmet item as a gift in the coming year planned to buy condiments, including sauces, rubs, jellies and spices. Since the number of home cooks, who are still busy with work and managing the household, has increased since the pandemic, convenient gourmet dips, unique spices, rubs, and pre-made sauces that make dinner a breeze are rising in popularity as gifts for a wide variety of consumers. With all of that in mind, these trends will have consumers coming back for seconds.
According to a Statista report, the Sauces & Condiments market is expected to show a volume growth of 3.5 percent in 2025. In the report, the analyst attributed the growth to a rise in home cooking since the initial outbreak of COVID-19. Furthermore, the space has witnessed the emergence of numerous profitable start-ups in recent years. Independent, smaller companies can really shine in the gourmet category, as many gift stores can attest.
Moreover, the emergence of new sauces in Western markets, such as Sriracha and chimichurri, as well as organic, non-GMO and gluten-free varieties are expected to drive segment growth. And as noted, the rising popularity of ethnic cuisines, such as those from Asian and Mediterranean countries, which frequently use a variety of flavorful sauces, are also projected to be an influencing factor in this segment’s growth.
Health-conscious consumers are also pushing growth in this

category as their needs for health and nutritional benefits are sought after. Gluten-free, low sodium, high fiber, dairy-free and plant protein are five factors driving the sales in health foods.
For the U.S. market, Asian sauces and spices are flying off the shelves, as are Latin-American flavors: think spicy adobo, mole poblano and salsa verde. For Asian flavors, Thai sweet chili sauce, hoisin sauce, tamarind sauce and lemongrass prove popular. For Italian-style cooking, jarred Calabrian peppers and marinated olives are winners, and for something sweet, marmalade and lemon curd do well.
Of course, in sales, it’s about the display and the supporting product. Bread mixes paired with a marmalade, or even honey, lead to bigger sales, and even giftables like aprons or cooking utensils can help.

TV shows, movies, icons, oh my! When it comes to licensed kitchen items, there’s plenty of options to stock.
Kitchenware is a category that isn’t going anywhere. Consumers are always going to need items for the kitchen, be it clever gourmet tools and utensils or cookware and baking dishes.
While older generations may already have full cabinets, younger gens are still stocking their shelves. According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, 50 percent of Gen Z respondents say they plan to purchase dinnerware in the next 12 months. Millennials are right on their tails at 48 percent.
But the question remains: What kind of kitchenware will they be drawn to? As is the case in many categories, strategic licensing partnerships can certainly drive sales.
Nostalgia has been playing a large role in purchasing for consumers in the years since the pandemic. Pop culture references have even started making their way into the kitchen in both subtle and direct forms. In fact, consumers are drawn to the nostalgia of media — specifically movies (71 percent) and TV shows (60 percent) — according to a 2023 survey by GWI Zeitgeist.
The success of last summer’s blockbuster movie “Barbie” started a tidal wave of all things pink. Every kitchen gadget was adorned with the signature pink shade, from spatula heads to handles on stovetop pots. With “Wicked” coming to theaters, pink and green kitchenware might be the next big thing. Looking for the next big blockbuster is certainly one strategy, but tapping into the fandoms of past phenomena is a surefire way to catch consumers’ attention. Disney is again the No. 1 license in the world for 2024, according to the Top Global Licensors report, but Pokémon is up in the top 10 along with Hasbro and Warner Bros. Though those licenses may seem out of place at first glance, remember that consumers are expressing themselves and their interests in a variety of ways, across a variety of product categories.

“Looking for the next big blockbuster is certainly one strategy, but tapping into the fandoms of past phenomena is a surefire way to catch consumers’ attention.”
Licensed kitchenware isn’t anything new — celebrity chefs and TV personalities have attached their names to dinnerware and cookware lines for years. And there’s a reason for it: it sells.
The difference now is the new wave of names on the scene. The stars of the Food Network aren’t as much of a draw as they used to be. Instead, the newer generations are looking to cooking competition shows and online influencers for their inspiration. Even a few Hollywood names make the cut.
Lines endorsed by popular figures like musical artists and actors are just a valuable as those from celebrity chef stardom. Consider your core customer base to decide which direction is best for your store. Even if you don’t stock a large kitchen section, the smaller items and gadgets from a line, like honey spoons, spatulas and small baking dishes, could still draw in sales with the right name in tow.

Incorporating DIY kits, elevated culinary experiences and practical meal aids into a gourmet display are sure to delight customers looking for the ideal take-home gift.

As consumers increasingly seek out unique and high-quality items for their homes, gourmet gifts have emerged as a compelling category. These products not only cater to the growing appetite for an elevated home cooking experience, but also offer an opportunity to stand out with distinctive offerings that captivate shoppers looking for both indulgent treats and practical culinary solutions.
Thanks to inflation and supply-chain issues causing the price of fast food to skyrocket, many consumers are increasingly opting to skip the drive-through and try cooking at home instead. DIY gourmet kits encourage customers to explore their culinary talents and help make the home-cooking experience more accessible for chefs of all ages by combining high-quality ingredients with QR codes that link to detailed instructions, video tutorials or tips from top chefs.
Gourmet marinades, pasta sauces and unique salsas make mealtime easy and more exciting. According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, baked goods like bread mixes or cake mixes are a popular choice for gourmet kits, with about half (48 percent) of respondents saying they’d buy such an item as a gift. One quarter of respondents said they’d also consider cocktail mixes and kits.
The gourmet gift market is also seeing a rise in elevated kits that add a more sophisticated flavor to a consumer’s typical pantry stock. These kits often feature premium ingredients, such as truffle-infused oils, artisanal cheeses and jams, exotic spices or high-quality charcuterie, and are designed to provide a restaurant-quality delicacy at home. Among survey respondents, gourmet gifts that catered to a sweet tooth were especially appealing, with chocolate and candy products overwhelmingly

topping the list of intended gourmet purchases (81 percent) followed by coffee and tea at 50 percent.
In addition to DIY kits and elevated experiences, sauces, seasoning blends and other recipe-based meal aids are gaining popularity among consumers who want to simplify their cooking while still enjoying top-notch flavor. To serve up extra convenience, retailers may wish to consider pairing these items with other practical gifts, such as kitchen towels, recipe holders or cooking utensils featuring suggested recipes that help at-home cooks create delicious dishes effortlessly. Hosting a series of in-store “sip and taste” events can also help drive additional sales by creating an immersive experience where customers can sample the quality and flavor of gourmet ingredients firsthand and make a more informed purchase decision.

The sky’s the limit when it comes to presents that are personal and expressive.

Creative gifts are a win-win for consumers and retailers alike. Shoppers get to tap into the gift recipient’s interests, while retailers can offer a wide array of custom gifts that speak to varying tastes. From marking special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries, to just-because gift giving, the opportunities for creative gifts are endless.
Mind and body wellness has become part of the cultural zeitgeist, as consumers make their mental health a top priority. Spa gifts that can be used at home are a popular choice and, when packaged with multiple items, can turn a bathtub into a luxurious oasis. Shower scrubs, eye masks and heated neck wraps in similar scents can be merchandised together for an all-in-one themed gift. Because wellness is also important while on the go, travel-sized light-up tweezers, mini rechargeable body massagers and purse-sized scalp massagers are innovative impulse buys for a bon voyage-themed purchase.
Health and safety-inspired items have earned their own spot on gift store shelves over the last few years, as consumers searched for ways to incorporate mask-wearing and hand-sanitizing into their everyday routines. First-aid kits containing smiley-faced bandages and ice packs, which can be gifted to new drivers and first-time car owners, are easy to stash into glove boxes. As COVID concerns begin to reemerge, fabric masks with fashion-forward designs and whimsical sentiments prove that laughter is indeed the best medicine.
Humor is one of the top attributes of great creative gifts. A funny message or label can dress up any product, from a bar of soap to a spatula to a pet bandana. People love to laugh — and share a laugh — so gifts with a funny message will continue to draw in shoppers in 2025.

The candle market has exploded with innovation, and consumers are responding in kind. According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, 94 percent of respondents expect to buy a jar candle in the next 12 months, while 43 percent plan to purchase a statement candle. Creative picks of candles that double as home décor include wax reveal versions with custom labels (state, town and zip code designs are peaking), along with hanging lanterns that house pillar candles.
Hostess gifts represent another subcategory where personality and purpose are top of mind. Customizable cocktail gift sets are a no-brainer for holidays and dinner parties, as are DIY foodie kits like chocolate making. Advent calendars, another hot pick for creative Christmas gifting, offer days of mini gifts in a variety of themes, from shower steamers and lip balms to socks, and coffee and tea tins.

Socks are an everyday need, but fun licensing collabs, fashion-forward designs and embellishments are making them an everyday want for consumers no matter their age.
Never underestimate the power of a good pair of socks. According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, socks were the third most popular fashion accessory — tied with fashion jewelry — to buy at a gift store/fashion boutique, beating out scarves, hats, sunglasses, hair accessories and more. But what styles and materials are driving all those sales? In 2025, much of that might depend on your customers’ ages.
Online, a sock debate raged between millennials and members of Gen Z in 2024 — to show your socks or not to show your socks. Dubbed #sockgate on social media, the consensus seemed to be that millennials and other, older generations prefer no-show socks, while younger sock lovers prefer to show-off their socks. In a post on the video sharing platform TikTok, fitness podcaster Phoebe Parsons embraced the theory, declaring that it is “how you can tell the difference between a millennial and a Gen Z just by looking at their feet.”
In research from Vogue Business, several major sock makers seemed to confirm the online-born theory, too, reporting that sales of the brand’s low-cut socks were down from 2021 while sales of socks that rise above the ankle increased. Looking ahead to 2025, consider tailoring your sock offerings based on the average age of your shoppers.
With more people looking to show off their socks, finding stylish options will be more important than ever to shoppers in 2025. Fun, funny and funky graphic print socks will continue to be popular, as will crew and calf-length socks accented with scalloped edges, lacy frills and even circa 1980 vintage stripes. Playful patterns and even some pop culture references are welcomed styles, too.

socks will also be popular as they provide consumers with a more fashion-forward graphic sock option. Iridescent fabrics and glittery accents will be key to making socks stand out in 2025.
No matter the length or style of sock you sell, the holidays need to remain a priority when planning your store’s sock sales for 2025. According to research group Circana’s Consumer Tracking Service, 25 percent of all socks sold in 2022 were purchased in November and December, and socks were the top-gifted apparel item during this time, too, accounting for nearly 30 percent of apparel units purchased by consumers as holiday gifts. Similar results were reported in 2023. That means it also might not be a bad idea to stock up on a few holiday sock designs for 2025 while you are buying.
The health and wellness industry is furthering the demand for water bottles, plus more that will keep you up at night.

According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, 73 percent of those surveyed are looking for gifts that are useful, and drinkware is an easy way to tap into the market, whether it’s decorative tumblers to stay hydrated or fun coffee mugs for the workplace.
Don’t sleep on travel drinkware for hot beverages. Afterall, the National Coffee Association reported in April 2024 that 67 percent of American adults had coffee in the past day (more than any other beverage, including tap or bottled water), compared to 49 percent in 2004. To keep up with the market demand, stock plenty of drinkware that keeps the contents close to boiling or ice cold for several hours. Creatively designed mugs are also in demand, as are ones donning fun phrases and sarcastic memes.
Another interesting feature is a drink vessel that also has an attached container for a small snack, as well as options for an open top or straw. To-go coffee and espresso makers that double as a thermos are also rising in popularity in travel gifts.
Hydration is top of mind for consumers around the world, as health and wellness industries continue to boom. Whether this is driven by the fitness influencer surge on social media or in mainstream media, a run on physical and mental wellness categories is something gift retailers can bet on.
Consumer insights company McKinsey & Company found that wellness continues to be a priority for consumers. They estimate the spend on wellness products and services to be more than $450 billion in the U.S. and growing at more than 5 percent annually. To support those looking to meet their fitness goals, water bottles are a must-have.
According to Grand View Research in a report titled “Reusable Water Bottle Market Size, Share & Trends Analysis,” the reusable water bottle market size was valued at 9.28 billion in 2023 and is

expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 4.4 percent from 2024 to 2030. The report pontificates that growing awareness regarding environmental hazards is a motivating factor as consumers aim to reduce their contribution to singleuse plastic consumption.
As in recent years, the bigger the vessel the better. Perfect for rigorous gym sessions, extra-long hikes or lengthy road trips, large water bottles and tumblers are highly sought after, and particularly ones that don’t look exactly the same as everyone else’s so it’s easy to spot in a public place, like a studio or weight room.
Think colorful containers, material conducive to stickers, or even personalization options. Items that feature a favorite interest, like a character, musician or other licensing is also something to consider when stocking this category, particularly for children.

The COVID-19 pandemic fueled a wellness boom that swept the country like wildfire, but after five years, what is next for the trillion-dollar industry?

Did you know that the wellness industry is worth nearly $3 trillion globally as of 2024? According to management counseling firm McKinsey & Co.’s 2024 Future of Wellness report, the wellness market is worth $480 billion, growing at 5 to 10 percent per year, just in the U.S. alone. And that number makes sense, especially when you consider that 82 percent of U.S. consumers now consider wellness a “top or important priority in their everyday lives,” per McKinsey’s findings.
But what are consumers spending all that money on? In an industry as fast-moving and fad friendly as wellness, it can be hard to keep track. Thankfully, experts seem to agree on a few key findings, like the rise of health at home.
The pandemic made at-home treatments, doctor appointments and testing commonplace for Americans, and that consumer comfort with at-home care seems to have extended into every health and wellness category in the years following. From skin care and massage to spa days at home, consumers are not afraid to DIY their wellness routines, so be sure to stock products that help them set the scene for those at-home treatments. Products that help transform a customer’s home into a spa — robes, eye masks, slippers, aromatherapy products and cozy blankets — are all key to setting that mood.
In addition to self-care-oriented products, many consumers will be seeking out more clinically backed wellness products in 2025. Medical doctors are the new influencers of choice for many consumers looking to avoid “health washing” and other forms of misinformation in a world full of underqualified influencer marketers. Online, doctors of every specialty are gaining a following as they give tips to viewers and make product recommendations.
Similarly, McKinsey’s reported in its study that it has been observing consumers shifting away from wellness products

with “clean” or “natural ingredients” to those with “clinically proven ingredients” since last year. Ultimately, in its latest study, McKinsey’s found that roughly half of U.S. and U.K. consumers reported clinical effectiveness as a top purchasing factor, while only about 20 percent reported the same for natural ingredients.
Sleep has been one aspect of health that has come into focus recently and will continue to be important to consumers in 2025. Everyone sleeps, and studies continue to show that good sleep is key to good mental, emotional and physical health.
In 2025, be sure to stock-up on products that promote “good sleep hygiene” and relaxation like eye masks, face masks, soft blankets and pillows, and any and everything lavender infused and scented.

From stylish accessories to indulgent yet healthy treats, gifts that allow pet owners to lavish love on their four-legged companions are highly sought after.
As pets become more integrated into daily life, the demand for unique, thoughtful gifts that cater to both pets and their owners is on the rise. For independent retailers, offering pet gifts can be a lucrative way to attract customers, enhance store appeal and tap into a market that has steadily grown in recent years.
Many devoted pet parents enjoy having their pets dressed in style, and this is especially true of millennial pet parents. In the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, millennials were the most likely generational group to purchase pet clothing and accessories. While pet collars and leashes make sensible gifts for any pet owner, offering stylish, high-end accessories that make a fashion statement allows customers to spoil their pets with something special.
Geometric patterns such as triangles and chevrons are popular for their modern and minimalist appeal while vintage floral designs offer a touch of sophistication to any pet’s ensemble. Designer pet accessories, such as dapper bow ties or chic bandanas can add additional upsell opportunities, especially when merchandised as part of a set demonstrating the value and significance of the pet’s role in the family — think fashion for the whole wedding party, groomsdog included — or matching sibling pajamas for Christmas with a coordinating bandana for the family cat.
According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, treats top the list as the most-bought pet item among pet owners, followed closely by toys. In particular, organic treats, free from artificial additives and preservatives are on the rise, catering to health-conscious pet owners who want to assure their pets live long and happy lives, as well as aligning with broader wellness trends.

Additionally, creatively packaged seasonal treats or gift sets that include a treat and a ball toy or even a toy and a matching accessory for the pet owner, are becoming increasingly popular, allowing these beloved companions to join in the festive fun during the holidays. Pet advent calendars will also continue to rise.
For pet owners themselves, trending gifts include humorous and whimsical items celebrating their bond with their furry friends. Tea towels featuring pet-related puns, novelty socks adorned with playful dog illustrations, and home decor signs that joke about a pet’s mischievous behavior or their love of food can add a personal and lighthearted touch to a pet lover’s home, making them perfect for showcasing their affection or serving as charming conversation pieces with other pet owners.

Serving as powerful symbols of hope and personal reflection, inspirational gifts resonate deeply with customers seeking meaningful ways to celebrate milestones and express their beliefs.
For some consumers, inspirational and faith-based gifts are not just decorative items for the home — they’re symbols of hope, encouragement and personal reflection. These gifts resonate deeply with customers seeking meaningful ways to express their beliefs, celebrate important milestones or offer support to loved ones. In the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, a little over one third (36 percent) of consumers said they look for inspirational qualities in a gift purchase, but among African American respondents, this number rose to nearly 60 percent. For gift retailers, stocking these items can help create a warm and welcoming space that reflects diverse customers’ values and aspirations.
Products like faith-themed artwork, motivational plaques and garden flags, angelic statues and candles adorned with uplifting messages are becoming popular choices for adding a touch of inspiration both inside and outside the home. Even some seasonal décor is getting more of an inspirational twist, from holiday-themed blessings to uplifting motivations that incorporate a traditional season’s weather, e.g. “Be the sunshine.” In line with the tranquility that spiritual reflection can bring, many inspirationally themed home décor pieces are set in a minimal or muted color palette to promote peaceful ponderings.
Many inspirational gifts offer thoughtful well-intentions for various life occasions, including weddings, baptisms, graduations and new home purchases. By incorporating faith-inspired well wishes and encouragement, these gifts offer a way to honor and commemorate personal achievements and life transitions with spiritual depth. For weddings, gifts like engraved plaques with famous love passages or custom wedding keepsakes serve as lasting reminders of the couple’s commitment. gious-themed baby blankets, mark the spiritual journey of the newest family member. Similarly, new home gifts adorned with blessings and scripture offer a warm welcome and spiritual affirmation to those starting a new chapter in their lives.
In contrast to modern minimalism, some inspirational gifts are pairing beautiful floral patterns and vibrant colors with heartfelt messages in elegant calligraphy fonts. From beautifully illustrated journals, stickers and Bible covers to wall art and decorative home accents, these faith-filled and floral gifts add a touch of feminine beauty to a space while also offering daily mantras to “grow in grace,” “rejoice in hope” or “give thanks.” For more simplified motivation, floral gifts with one-word reminders like peace, strength or love can offer small doses of encouragement throughout the day.

Products that can help send messages — both the loving and humorous kinds — are ramping up in the gift industry.

Consumers are always looking for ways to show off their personalities, either through the gifts they give or the pieces they choose for themselves. In a time when the options for consumers are abundant, be mindful of stocking products that convey the messages your consumers are looking for.
Message gifts can vary in tone. Consumers are out for laughs, according to the 2025 Gift Book Conumer Survey. When buying gifts, 63 percent of millennials, 47 percent of Gen X and 42 percent of both baby boomers and Gen Z say they look for something funny. Meanwhile, 42 percent of Gen X consumers look for inspirtional items, as do roughly one-third of Gen Z (33 percent), millennials (34 percent) and baby boomers (32 percent).
Message gifts are more than just phrases on T-shirts or décor signs. While those types of products still have a place in the market, there are plenty of other products consumers are seeking out to send messages.
Candles — specifically jar candles — are becoming a fun way to send a message to a friend through unconventional scent names, fun poems, inspirational quotes and the like. Jar candles are one of the most popular choices of candle with 94 percent of respondents in the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey saying they are likely to purchase one in the next 12 months.
More specifically, younger consumers are starting to seek out humorous candles with funny labels or packaging. Millennials are leading the hunt for these new products, with 19 percent saying it influences their decision to purchase. In the same regard, millennials (at 17 percent) are also looking for candles with inspirational packaging, followed by Gen Z at 14 percent and Gen X at 13 percent.

priority for those younger consumers who are just getting into their own spaces. Whether its millennials buying their first homes, Gen Zers moving away from home for the first time or even dressing up a desk space or office in a work setting, décor that shares a message is a go-to way to personalize a space and add a little flare.
Wall décor with loving phrases aimed at self or family have long been a mainstay in the category. Those will continue to have their place, both on the wall and in shelf pieces like standalone boxes and picture frames.
What’s making moves is the desire for more playful, sassy and snarky sayings. Millennials and Gen Z consumers are feeding into their sarcastic senses of humor more so now than in past years, both in home and work settings.
Desk accessories that poke fun at work schedules and meetings are popular picks, as are home options that feature the joy of naps and the wonders of food delivery service.

Personalized and customizable gifts are highly sought after — but these items make existing products special.
Now maybe more than ever, people of all ages have an easily accessible platform (or several) to express themselves freely. From sharing personal stories to political views, pictures and memes they find amusing, or causes that are near and dear to their hearts, today’s consumer wants to share their life and showcase their individuality with the world.
According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, of those surveyed, 49 percent are looking for a gift that is personalized, and 21 percent are looking for a gift that is customizable. This applies to nearly any gift — water bottles and coffee mugs, throw pillows, T-shirts — self-expression in today’s world is paramount, as well as the goal of standing out amongst the crowd. Items that seem more personalized, like home décor and gifts that sport a local theme, appeal to residents and tourists alike, whether it’s to show off town pride or an exciting vacation.
An easy way to make something more personal is to, well, personalize it. But from a retail perspective, choosing the right number of initials or even selection of names can be tricky. As can be custom orders, which can’t be returned if a customer doesn’t love the end result. Why not take the guesswork out of it and opt for an assortment of decals or stickers instead?
Stickers are a low-cost way to show off individual interests, and consumers love them. They can adorn beverage vessels, notebooks, laptops, car windows and the list goes on. Someone who loves plants, for example, might enjoy a sticker that says, “Plant Mom,” or a heart in the shape of flowers. An avid reader might like a sticker of a worm reading a book to place on the back of their e-reader. Whatever one can imagine, there is a sticker design for it.
Enamel pins and keychains are also an easy way to personalize a jean jacket, a bag, dorm room corkboard or guitar strap. They can be simple, like a snuggly cat, or go very

niche, like a callback to an old cult classic movie. The possibilities are endless with pins.
Consumers are able to bring elements of themselves into every room of their home — and even outside. According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, welcome mats (and area rugs) are the most popular home furnishings category consumers plan to purchase over the next year. Stock decorative mats that may even bring some sass with the warm welcome.
For inside the home, consider stocking tea towels, gourmet tools and throw pillows with personality. Whether sporting a sassy saying, funny pun or a cute design that taps into the hobbies and interests of the shopper, these items feel more personal to consumers, whether they’re purchasing them for themselves or a loved one.

Make your customer experience feel more personal with the help of trending gifts that fill them with local pride.

What is one easy way to grab a customer’s attention? Give them something to connect with! Consumers love to see themselves in a product, and love to commemorate the places and things they like, too. Whether you own a store in a vacation hotspot that is frequented by tourists or a boutique browsed almost exclusively by locals, a gift that showcases the area instantly gives every person in your store something to connect with emotionally.
Though not every gift store is a souvenir shop, it’s easy to stock products that would be perfect for someone shopping for a souvenir gift or two.
Giftables that are easy on the wallet and easy to pack for traveling are always on trend for travelers. Products that are collectible and inexpensive — think stickers, shot glasses, mugs, magnets, and keychains that feature a local map or an illustration of a nearby tourist site or the name of the state or town — are always a hit. But, looking into 2025, there are some new types of souvenirs making waves across the country thanks to tech trends.
Smartphones are considered an essential item these days, and because of that, accessories like smartphone cases, Bluetooth earbud cases, decorative chains and stick-on phone grips decorated with local art and names will become more popular in 2025 because they are as practical as they are personal. For visitors looking to spend a little more, blankets, rain jackets and sweatshirts will continue to be great items to have on hand as they can be bought to keep warm and dry if the weather changes during their trip. When visitors get home, the items will be stylish and functional souvenirs.
Tote bags with local-themed designs are another popular choice but don’t forget the growing resurgence in fanny packs. A small, easy option for consumers on the go, the ’90s fashion trend is back in style and perfect for gift shops.

For customers that know and love the area and state, local gifts need to be more novel, making locally made and sourced products a perfect choice. Gifts that work well for these shoppers include art and décor made by local craftsman, products that highlight state flowers, birds and more, decorative maps, products from local farms, gourmet recipe kits that highlight a local dish and even local cookbooks.
Finding gifts that are locally made in this category is particularly important because, according to the 2025 Gift Book Conumer Survey, nearly half of all respondents, or 47 percent of respondents, ranked a product being locally made as somewhat or very important to them. Additionally, 73 percent of respondents indicated that they would be willing to pay more for a locally made product.

Consumers are spending more on men than ever before. Consider stocking both upscale gift options and customized crowd-pleasers.
The days of the “quirky ties for dad” are finally starting to dwindle, making room for more quality gift options for men. Whether consumers are looking for themselves or a special someone, there are now more luxury men’s gifts on the market than ever before, and consumers are spending more on men that ever before, too.
Father’s Day spending, alone, has increased over the years, reaching record numbers time and again. According to a 2024 survey by the National Retail Federation, consumers planned to spend a near-record amount of $22.4 billion on Father’s Day, with 58 percent of shoppers planning to buy a greeting card, 54 percent planning to buy clothing, 52 percent planning a special outing, 48 percent buying gift cards and 31 percent buying personal care items. The NRF also reported that the average consumer shopping for Father’s Day planned to spend $189.81 each.
With average spends on Father’s Day increasing, there’s even more room for higher quality gifts for men, whether for Father’s Day or other holidays and occasions. The fastest-growing category in the gift industry is men’s personal care items, including solid colognes, men’s bar soap with nourishing ingredients, beard-care items and even high-quality lotions and face care.
Men’s grooming products will continue to be popular for 2025, but we’ll also continue to see more personal and unique gift options on the rise.
Any gift that tailors to a recipient’s specific taste is a winner and there’s no exception for men. Gifts like coffee mugs, tumblers, hats, T-shirts and even everyday items like keychains and gourmet tools that sport the logo of a favorite sports team are classic gifts and will continue to be popular.
Other gifts that tap into men’s hobbies, like golfing, fishing, hunting, bicycling, camping or videogaming, will continue to

attract shoppers’ attention, as well, since they’re both functional — a key attribute for men’s gifts — and feel more personal.
Grilling paraphernalia is another option that’ll never go out of style.
High-end gifts like leather luggage, message bags and wallets, especially those with designs for style and function, have risen in popularity over the last year and will continue to do so. High-quality items can double as personal interest items, with options like leather branding for initals, monograms or even team logos.
Other quality items, like whiskey tumblers and cubes, cigar accessories, gourmet spices and rubs, fancy coffee accessories and swanky playing cards and game sets, offer consumers upscale gift options for the more sophisticated man.

Picture frames are versatile additions to the home, functioning as both stylish décor and a special way to commemorate a treasured memory.

Picture frames are an easy way to spruce up a room with an added touch of décor and help remind consumers of special memories. They’re also usually sold at an approachable price point, which makes the decorative accents a great choice for consumers and retailers alike. The market for picture frames is growing too, most likely because of their multiple functions and average price point.
According to a 2024 report by Zion Market Research, the global market for picture frames was valued at approximately $9.33 billion in 2023 and expected to grow to $15.20 billion by 2032 at a compound annual growth rate of about 5 percent.
Frames that mark special memories, like a wedding, anniversary party, a new baby or a graduation make great gifts and self-purchases. Picture frames with a special message, like “Wedding Memories,” or “Welcome Baby,” or a design that matches the framed occasion tap into shoppers’ emotions, making them great impulse purchases or gift ideas since they feel more personal. What counts as a “special occasion” frame has also expanded. Frames designed for pet pictures, couples’ romantic photoshoots and even best-friend getaways are rising in popularity as consumers continue to focus on the gift of experiences and connecting with others. Pet memorial frames is the latest addition to the category.
While “giftable” picture frames that feature a poem, quote, inspirational message or special illustration that matches the framed memory are popular purchases for consumers, designer frames that act as a more stylish component for the home are also top choices and are rising in popularity as shoppers look for affordable ways to freshen up a room.

past few years, silver is making a strong comeback. Keep an eye out for stylish silver frames that add an elevated look to a room, especially those with a sophisticated pattern. As serenegreen décor continues to be a top color choice for 2025, stock up on frames that match it well, like those that are cream, gray, mid-tone green or a soft blue.
Frames in fun shapes, like a rocket ship or castle, are great additions for kids’ rooms and smaller frames in the shape of a circle, square, heart or octagon are perfect for dorm rooms and first apartments. These frames usually sport a fun color, too, and can even feature a fun texture, like velvet, to make them stand out. Keep an eye out for frames that have easy-change features. Magnetic connectors, slideable inserts and hinged frames are on the rise as consumers look to swap out memories more frequently.

When it comes to updating holiday table décor, customers are on the hunt for sophisticated touches and playful serveware to make mealtime special.
As the holiday season approaches, retailers have a golden opportunity to create visually stunning displays centered around stylish and festive holiday tabletop and table décor. From elegant table accessories to whimsical serveware, holiday tableware adds to the festive cheer of the season by giving customers new ways to update the decorations at their highly anticipated holiday gatherings.
Given that traditional and nostalgic décor was the top Christmas decorating style preferred by consumers in the 2025 Gift Book, retailers may wish to consider choosing classic holiday colors such as red, green or gold when selecting decorative pieces to adorn their holiday tabletop displays. Subtle nods to Santa, such as a red-hat topper or reindeer salt and pepper shakers, can help add a touch of traditional sentiment to a holiday vignette.
Tabletop that features retro Santa illustrations, classic Christmas trees and holly leaves, playful snowmen and reindeer will continue to be top purchases by consumers, especially for serving platters, cookie jars and hot cocoa and tea sets. Gingerbread men and gingerbread houses are another classic Christmas icon that conjures fond family memories. Dessert plates, serving platters and other tabletop featuring designs of the delectable treat — or in the shape of the popular confection — will be on trend for 2025.
Whimsical and playful holiday tabletop items are also on the rise. These pieces often feature fun patterns, bright colors and classically festive icons such as snowmen, reindeer and holiday lights that bring smiles to faces and may serve as ideal conversation starters around the holiday table.
Retailers may better attract those seeking a more casual, joyful holiday ambiance by including lighthearted but playful

complements in their holiday table displays, such as quirky napkin rings, themed serving platters, colorful table runners and cocktail napkins with humorous turns of phrases. Choosing reversible or interchangeable designs that can be swapped out depending on the season can ensure a longer shelf life for these products, even after the main holiday event has passed.
Though fine china and formal dinnerware have been waning in popularity over the years, sophisticated accessories, like velvet pumpkins for fall or ornate Christmas tree figurines, for table centerpieces elevate casual dinnerware place settings. Ornate placemats with rich embroidery, flameless dinner tapers and chic holders, and colored, textured glassware offer customers the chance to create a special and seasonally appropriate dining experience at home.

Traditional ornaments always have their place, but there are plenty more styles worth stocking.
As long as there are Christmas trees, there will be ornaments. And the best part about them is that there is a style and design that fits any personality.
Traditional Christmas colors are always popular — according to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, at least half of consumers in each generation lean toward the traditional/nostalgic decorating style for the holidays. It’s the most popular style for each age range, with 60 percent of Gen Z selecting it, closely followed by 52 percent of baby boomers, 51 percent of Gen X and 50 percent of millennials. Specifically, 49 percent of consumers look for traditional ornaments to adorn their trees.
While traditional colors like greens, reds, whites and metallics like gold and silver are pretty much always in style, there are plenty of consumers who look for something a little more off the beaten path. The neon/bright and cheerful color palette is the runner up Christmas décor style across the generations, according to this year’s survey. While it’s more popular with Gen Z and millennials (21 percent and 20 percent of consumers plan to purchase in the next year, respectively), Gen X (17 percent) and baby boomers (13 percent) also have been showing some fleeting interest. Some of this may still be inspiration from last summer’s blockbuster, “Barbie,” which brought on a wave of all things bright pink.
On the flip side, a muted style or one that is more transitional with other seasons has seen a dip in popularity this year in each age range.
While consumers buy ornaments for themselves, they also make great gifts during the holiday season. As ornament exchanges become more popular among friends, families and coworkers, consumers have more desire to find ornaments that really fit the

personality of the receiver.
In fact, 55 percent of respondents to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey said “reflects personal interests” is the No. 1 attribute they look for when buying ornaments. Ornaments that represent things like sports, music, reading and other hobbies are easy to stock in multiple styles. This is also the perfect chance to stock some licensed ornaments too — everything from nostalgic snacks to popular movie fandoms can garner interest both for the consumers themselves and anyone they may be gifting to.
Ornaments that offer some level of custom personalization are also great to keep on hand, since 41 percent of consumers are interested in scooping up some of those. Think Baby’s First Christmas, Our First Home and even framed ornaments that offer a place to write in a name and year with permanent marker.

Consumers are looking for more than just Christmas décor when it comes to accessorizing for the holidays.

Across the board, Christmas is overwhelmingly the most shopped for holiday when it comes to home décor. According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, 85 percent of Gen Z respondents, 77 percent of millennials, and 75 percent of both Gen Z and baby boomers plan to purchase Christmas home décor items in the next 12 months.
Popular Christmas decorations include candles, welcome mats, garland, ribbon, holiday serveware and, of course, a Christmas tree with all of the adornments.
But it’s important to not overlook the other holidays that warrant décor. Consumers are branching out more than before by sprucing up their homes year round for different holidays, so it’s important to be stocked for each growing occasion.
There’s been an uptick in spooky season shopping over the past couple of years and that’s a trend that certainly isn’t dying down anytime soon, especially with tales of “summerween” hitting social media in a big way. Stores are putting out stock earlier than before to help feed the desires of customers searching for the latest in the creepy and kooky across all categories.
According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, millennials are most in tune with their spooky side, with 58 percent of consumers planning to purchase Halloween décor in the next year. Gen Z isn’t far behind, though, at 54 percent. That’s quite an increase from last year, which saw just 42 percent and 44 percent of consumers hunting Halloween, respectively.
It’s the second-most shopped for holiday across all generations except baby boomers, who plan to shell out for Thanksgiving before Halloween.
Gen Z and millennial consumers seem more likely to purchase décor for multiple seasons. In fact, 42 percent of Gen Z and 41

percent of millennials plan to purchase fall décor in the next year, according to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, compared to just 34 percent and 30 percent of Gen X and baby boomers, respectively.
In the same sense, general winter décor and less-specifi c Christmas décor is also more popular for Gen Z (40 percent) and millennials (34 percent), while not carrying the same weight with older generations like Gen X (22 percent) and baby boomers (17 percent). The same can be said for spring décor, though baby boomers are a little more on board with decorating for that season (27 percent).
Summer is the only season where consumers seem less likely to purchase season-specific décor. Instead, they would rather dress things up for the summer holidays like Memorial Day and Fourth of July, so keeping patriotic items stocked throughout the warm season would be beneficial.

Retailers looking to appeal to diverse customer preferences for the holidays should consider luxurious, nostalgic and humorous decorations.
Retailers who want to capitalize on early-bird sales for the holidays shouldn’t wait for the post-Thanksgiving shopping season. According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, one quarter of consumers are ready to begin their Christmas shopping as soon as Halloween ends. By catering to this eager market ahead of the expected holiday rush, retailers can boost their sales and gain a competitive edge.
In the coming year, expect to see an emphasis on luxurious materials and glittering accents. Velvet, satin and metallic finishes are on the rise, adding a touch of elegance to holiday decorations. According to the trendspotters at Christmasworld, rich textures and classic seasonal colors like emerald green, deep burgundy and gold are all popular choices. From plush velvet stockings to ornate ornaments and sophisticated table runners, these luxurious elements help create a high-end, glamorous holiday atmosphere, appealing to customers who want to impress their holiday guests by infusing their homes with Gatsby-esque opulence.
Retro-inspired decorations — think traditional red and green hues, plaid patterns and vintage-inspired ornaments — continue to make an impact with customers who want to recreate the warmth and magic of past holidays. Fifty-two percent of consumers surveyed for the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey described traditional/nostalgic as their holiday decorating style, and among Gen Z consumers, this style preference rose to 60 percent.
Tapping into a sentimental longing for simpler times, this trend makes it a great opportunity for retailers to offer items like retro-themed fi gurines, nostalgic wreaths, and classic Santa Claus, snowman and mistletoe decorations. To add to the

comforting, familiar feel of these holiday celebrations, retailers may wish to enhance their displays with a festive fragrance, as candles and home fragrance topped the list of product categories consumers planned to purchase for Christmas in the coming year.
For those who prefer a less conventional holiday spirit, gifts inspired by the classically grumpy characters of Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol, may appeal to customers who identify as more “naughty” than “nice.” Adorned with cheeky phrases and designs that embrace the grouchier and naughtier side of Christmas, these items appeal to those who enjoy a serving of irony and humor during the holidays. Examples include mugs with sarcastic holiday messages, “bah humbug” themed décor, and novelty gifts that playfully mock the excesses of the season.

Kids and their parents are seeking out lifestyle products that are useful, adaptive and expressive.

They may be small, but their personalities are not! And though they may not be quite old enough to make purchases themselves, kid customers will always have an opinion on the gifts they receive and request, because they are just as passionate about their interests and preferences as their adult counterparts. In fact, in a study published by Harvard Health, researchers found that kids can already begin developing “distinct and lasting preferences” for foods, colors and even people by the time they are just toddlers!
Given that, it makes sense that kids, just like the grown-ups doing the buying for them, are looking to express themselves and their tastes with the items they surround themselves with. Get prepared for your youngest customers next year by stocking lifestyle essentials that help them get through their days and connect with others.
When it comes to kids’ interests, they can be just as varied as adult consumers. There are some staple themes and characters that remain popular across age groups and products, including farmers, unicorns, dinosaurs, fairies, space, cowboys and jungle animals. Kids have shown interest in these themes for years, and that does not look to be changing in 2025.
Kids are showing a rising interest in some new themes, too. Animal favorites will see one of the biggest shifts next year as more kids show an interest in unusual critters like capybaras, prairie dogs, axolotls and even spiders, all of which have received adorable, animated makeovers in popular children’s content over the last few years. Wildlife native to the U.S. — especially frogs, bees, raccoons and opossums — are also receiving increased attention as kids learn more about the world around them and explore their surroundings.
Interest wise, kids are really digging into themes that link back to hobbies and potential future careers, too. Baking and

cooking is more popular among kids than ever, and they are loving accessories that show off that interest. Occupation-specifi c interests of note include archaeologists, pilots, artists, content creators, and video gamers and video game designers. Favorite foods — especially colorful baked goods, popsicles and sandwiches of all types — will also trend.
No matter what their interest is, kids and the adults in their lives are looking for lifestyle products that are durable and useful. For school-aged kids, look for products like water bottles, pencil cases, backpacks, lunchboxes and small umbrellas that they can carry with them and use to show off their personality. For younger kids, practical clothing pieces like raincoats, hats and boots are popular. Interchangeable products that can be updated with new designs or even adjusted for size will also be increasingly more popular among parents in 2025 as they look for new ways to save and reduce their waste.

Innovation in design and demographic growth is propelling this category forward.

From big kids to little ones, it seems that everyone these days is getting their hands on plush — a category that remains impervious to volatile market activity. According to Circana’s U.S. Retail Tracking Service, sales of soft toys saw a slight increase (1 percent), one of just four supercategories that experienced a year-over-year boost within the global marketplace. Next year looks to be even more encouraging; 43 percent of respondents to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey plan to purchase a doll or plush for a toddler, followed by 31 percent for a child between ages 5-7 and 29 percent for an infant.
Gone are the days of soft toys without preassigned names or personas. Today’s plush characters are often packaged with identities and individual backstories, making them instant friends that are ripe for storytelling. Also on trend are everyday objects designed with facial features and wide smiles in all shapes and sizes. From bright-eyed tacos that double as room décor, to mini milkshake keychains, plush with personality has found a home in all aspects of life.
With an eye toward cultural diversity, toy makers are designing plush that represents a broader perspective in play. Kawaii-inspired plush in both mini and reversible formats continues to signify consumers’ interest in Japanese culture, manga and anime. Retailers in the know can cross-merchandise this expanding category with stationery, stickers and other fun novelty items.
A more cultured consumer is also the impetus for the latest plush animal themes. Sloths and hedgehogs of recent years are finding company with alpacas, bearded dragons, capybaras and other more sophisticated creatures. While there’s always a place reserved for cuddly teddy bears and bunnies as baby’s first soft

friends, consumers can expect their child’s plush menagerie to expand geographically as their world expands.
Aside from younger consumers, kidults are also driving the plush toys market. College-aged students in search of cuddly pals to decorate their dorm rooms are gravitating toward pillow-sized plush, while adults looking for ways to curb stress and anxiety during challenging times are turning to nostalgic old friends like Peanuts characters, Hello Kitty and Friends and other trusted childhood companions.
Collectible plush has also amassed a strong following, as limited-edition characters rolled out seasonally gain tons of interest via social media promotions and online fan base clubs. Movie fandoms and popular anime like Pokémon are highly sought after for both enjoyment and collection purposes.

When it comes to celebrating a new arrival, baby gifts that are fun and functional go hand in hand.

Who doesn’t love shopping for babies? Whether it’s a shower gift in anticipation of the big day, or a present to commemorate a child’s birth, gift givers hardly need an excuse to mark the special occasion of welcoming little ones to the world. With 21 percent of consumers planning to buy a gift for an infant in the next 12 months, as per the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, retailers in the know are wise to refresh their baby gift selection with both traditional and on-trend gifts for their discerning customers.
Toys that promote baby’s development and provide opportunities for parents to engage with their little ones are popular with gift givers. Top categories include dolls and plush (29 percent), books (22 percent) and pretend play (20 percent), according to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey. Ultra-soft plush toys in textured fabrics are baby’s first friends, as are satin-trimmed character blankets that double as loveys and security objects. While soft bunnies, puppies and kittens still reign supreme, they are now joined by plush frogs, alligators, foxes and woodland creatures.
Soft storybooks remain a perennial favorite for baby gift giving, designed with crinkly textures for added tactile stimulation. Also popular are teethers comprised of cuddly creatures atop silicone rings, which can serve as gift toppers or add-on sales. Trending themes include smiling lattes, avocados and tacos, tapping into the foodie frenzy currently playing across the toy industry as a whole.
Wooden building blocks, shape matching toys and other items that provide infants with a tactile, learning experience will always be popular.

percent of consumers reporting eco-friendly as a somewhat important attribute when buying gifts — soft goods fashioned from natural fibers and fabrics are on trend. Popular picks include organic cotton and bamboo apparel, blankets and bedding linens. Colorful onesies, sleep sacks and footed pajamas feature plant-dyed fabrics to appeal to environmentally conscious consumers. With 64 percent of survey respondents willing to pay more for a product that is sustainable, retailers may consider appealing to this growing demographic.
Decorating the nursery is another key opportunity for baby gift-giving. Wall signage adds a fun twist to traditional baby announcements with a variety of options, ranging from framed sonograms through the trimesters, to customizable lit signs that spell out a child’s name and vitals. Décor items, like wicker baskets that serve as diaper caddies, can grow with a child into the preschool years by corralling small toys.

Commemorating first-year milestones makes for personalized gift-giving.
Savoring special moments in a child’s first year, keepsakes help to tell a baby’s story in a giftable format that can be treasured for years to come. Whether it’s cutting a first tooth — or a first lock of hair — gifts that embrace these experiences bring instant joy to new parents.
Down the road, they allow recipients to take a walk down memory lane simply by opening a box. Retailers in the know are wise to refresh their inventory of heirloom-quality baby gifts in anticipation of a new year of new arrivals.
Despite a decrease in the number of live births — the Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported 3.6 million babies born in 2023, down 2 percent from the previous year — gift giving for babies has not waned. The 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey reveals that 21 percent of shoppers expect to buy a new baby gift in the coming year — a figure that remains on par with last year (22 percent).
For those torn between purchasing one keepsake item over another, packaged sets have become a perfect tiebreaker option. In the same survey, 51 percent of consumers noted the gift recipient’s chance to experience multiple products as their primary reason for buying a gift set. Perennial favorites include baby cup and rattle, baby cup and bowl, and bowl and spoon sets. Gifted in sturdy decorative boxes, these selections are meant to be displayed in store, as well as in the nursery.
Personalization also enhances a baby keepsake gift, engraved either with a child’s first name or initials. Nearly half (49 percent) of those surveyed considered this gift attribute most important, allowing their purchase to stand apart from a sea of new baby gifts.

featuring vital statistics remain popular with gift givers, while DIY ceramic banks packaged with paint pens allow gift givers to customize their creations for an added personal touch.
Baby books, memory books and Baby’s First Christmas ornaments are sentimental gifts that parents will treasure for decades to come.
Specialty gift retailers are keeping the faith by enhancing their christening gift selection. Pewter remains a popular choice for baptismal shells, christening cups and picture frames adorned with crosses. When merchandised with other religious gifts such as angel ornaments and books containing scripture verses, consumers have instant ideas for first communions, confirmations and other occasions that warrant special purchases.

Trending toys range from construction and building sets to sensory playsets and eco-friendly fidgets.

Toy sales are holding their own these days, and that’s encouraging news for retailers heading into the all-important fourth quarter. The latest report from marketing trend tracking firm Circana revealed that U.S. toy sales were steady from January through June 2024 versus the same period in 2023. Another positive sign: the sales growth of three out of 11 supercategories — building sets, plush and outdoor/sports toys — leading the pack. As specialty toy and gift stores ramp up their inventory for the holidays and beyond, they should consider making room for categories and trends that will resonate most with their customers.
Construction toys, particularly building sets, are at the forefront of top-grossing toy sales, with Circana reporting 25-percent growth in the first half of 2024. Touting broad appeal across the ages, this category reigns supreme with everyone from novice builders all the way down to seasoned kidults. In fact, the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey notes building toys as the most popular category for toddlers (ages 2-4) at 45 percent, followed by grade schoolers (ages 5-7) at 38 percent and tweens (ages 8-12) at 21 percent.
While classic brands offer a bit of nostalgia for adults looking to recapture their childhood, grown-ups lean toward high-end collector sets with multiple pieces and display-worthy aesthetics. If you have kidults often perusing your store, stocking some advance building sets would be useful.
On the younger end of the spectrum, wooden building sets have gained attention (particularly with green-minded parents), while magnetic tile sets are incorporating new colors and materials like straws and tubes to enhance overall design. Construction sets packaged with magnetic figures, another notable trend, are extending the play value and allowing kids to customize their own themed set-ups.

Rather than competing for consumers’ attention, social-emotion learning (SEL) and sustainable living trends go hand in hand in the toy world. With many designers embracing sensory play, they are turning toward mediums and materials that benefit the environment. Fidgets and playsets made from recycled plastics and wood are on the upswing, as are sensory putties and doughs constructed with non-toxic materials.
Eco-friendly toy design has moved to the top of the drawing board, as consumers remain increasingly concerned by global warming and climate control issues. According to the 2025 Gift Book Consumer Survey, 37 percent of respondents consider sustainability as a somewhat important factor when buying a toy or gift, with 64 percent willing to pay more for this type of product. As more brands join the fray with biodegradable packaging and tout their commitment to saving the planet, retailers can expect to unbox more playthings that are no longer destined for landfills.

Adult buyers have carved a niche out for themselves in the toy marketplace and are buying differently than their younger counterparts.

More adults than ever are purchasing toys not just for their kids, but for themselves. Kidults, defined by research firm Circana as toy consumers ages 18 and up, have become an important niche in the toy marketplace.
Initially driven by pandemic-fueled nostalgia, the kidult demographic has only grown stronger in the years following, boosting toy sales along with it. According to Juli Lennett, Circana vice president and industry advisor of toys, toy recipients ages 18 and up grew 8 percent in 2023, making it the strongest growth segment for U.S. toy sales that year, and that trend has continued into 2024 and is projected to do the same in 2025.
But what toys are these “forever young” consumers gravitating towards? It depends on their preferred style of play — just like with the regular kids — but nostalgic toys, collectible pieces, and games and brain teasers are a good place to start.
Tapping into nostalgia and the power of fandom, collectibles have been a consistent favorite among kidult buyers and a favorite for retailers because it encourages repeat purchases. For adult buyers in 2025, keep sports collectible toys like trading cards, figurines and anything done in “mystery” packaging in stock. In 2024, according to Circana, professional basketball and football licenses were among the top gaining toy properties. Licensed products will continue to perform well in 2025 as a whole as licensed collectibles give fans a chance to connect further with their favorite shows, books, teams, characters and more. Nostalgic licenses and buildable and interactive collectibles — think collectible building block sets and toys that link back to digital components — will grow in popularity.
The kidult trend was sparked in part by the sudden boost that games and puzzles got during the pandemic as consumers

sought new ways to keep themselves entertained. In 2025, that category will continue to grow, as adults continue to enjoy play that connects them with others.
Alone, consumers are looking to challenge their brains and learn new skills when engaging in play. Craft kits, brain teasers, and even one-person games and activities in more grown-up themes will all be well loved. Toys that teach new skills, like a craft kit that teaches buyers how to crochet, and practical gifts, like toys that can be used decoratively or carried on a keyring, offer “added value” for adult consumers.
Fidget toys — small toys that encourage repetitive hand movements and activity that many find calming — rose to popularity several years ago and continue to evolve. In 2025, fidget toys will lean into nostalgia to reengage consumers with things like vintage-inspired metal and wood block puzzles and brain teasers.
