IN THE BEGINNING Bro. Dell Rose, who had been a faithful young minister serving under Elder Jimmy Davis, in Weedpatch, California, began evangelizing in 1967, along with his wife, Sis. Dorothy Jo. Their first revival began with Pastor L.C. South in Durant, Oklahoma.

In 1969, Bro. Jimmy Pence, then pastoring on the Central Coast of California, asked Bro. Rose to hold a revival for them at their Pentecostal church in Santa Maria.

While preaching there several familes attended from the nearby town of Lompoc. Bro. Pence and these two local families asked Bro. Rose to start an Apostolic church in Lompoc.

Thus began The First Apostolic Church of Lompoc, and the first church service was held at a family home on Third Street in Lompoc, California.

Bro. Rose While in elementary school, when asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, the young Dell Rose, wrote that he would like to become a minister of the gospel.

God has miraculously provided and Bro. Rose has been ministering the gospel of Jesus Christ for more than 50 years.

THE STORY In the early 1970s, The First Apostolic Church services happened at several locations until the congregation purchased the Lerned Ranch, 4+ acres at the current church location, W. North Avenue and North “O” Street.

Ten faithful members of the church signed the mortgage to buy the property and construction materials. Much of the building was built by the members of the church, who were young electricians, plumbers, and carpenters. What skills they couldn’t provide themselves, they acquired by bartering.

Brother Rose traded his new pickup truck and camper to have the block walls erected. Working many evenings after the members completed their day jobs, they finished the sanctuary in 1975.

The Key to Learning School Annex, named “Ruth’s Kitchen” after a faithful saint that passed on, was completed in 1988.

As a 3-year-old, the 12th child of an Oklahoma ranching couple Angeline and Dillard Rose, Bro. Rose came to California during the Oklahoma dustbowl.

As a young man, Rose traveled around the world before he was 21 while serving almost four years in the U.S. Navy, and seeing some combat in the Korean War. For 25 years, Bro. Rose’s favorite pastime was riding and raising Paso Fino horses.

Dr. Gary Garrett, founder of the Apostolic Archives International, Inc., will be off icially inducting Elder Dell Rose into the Apostolic Ministerial Hall of Fame, at 1:30 PM, Saturday, May 23, 2020.
