CHRONICLE

The Superocean Heritage returns—sharper, sleeker, and ready for the sun and surf. Breitling’s modern-retro sea watch is newly refined in all the right ways, with a refreshed design, new proportions, and enhanced manufacture movements.
This
is style at sea, perfected.
The Superocean Heritage is no ordinary sea watch—it never was. When it first launched in 1957, Breitling took a different tack than other dive watches of the era. The Ref. 1004 (a sleek time-only piece) and Ref. 807 (the world’s first dedicated dive chronograph) weren’t just about exploring the underwater world—they were about looking good doing it.
The spear-and-arrow hands, ceramic rotating bezel, and naturally sleek proportions made it a favorite of stylish adventurers and jet-set travelers who lived for the sea and the scene. Today, that philosophy is still at the core of the Superocean Heritage. It’s got the spirit of the 1950s, designed for today.
The details on the revamped Superocean Heritage are as crisp as a sea breeze, with tone-on-tone subdials, a subtle date aperture at six o’clock, spear-and-arrow hands echoing the mid-century original—along with responsibly sourced gold accents on select models.
The ceramic bezel maintains its timeless profile, while the redesigned mesh-metal or mesh-rubber bracelet now sits flush to the case for a smoother fit. A folding clasp adds both comfort and a streamlined aesthetic, making it as practical as it is polished.
In 1957, Breitling introduced the SuperOcean Ref. 1004, the sleek, time-only counterpart to the dive chronograph. With its concave bezel and bold hour markers, it was designed not just for underwater timing but for looking undeniably stylish while sailing, surfing, or lounging seaside. Launched amid the surge of interest in aquatic adventure, sparked by Jacques Cousteau’s underwater documentary The Silent World, it marked Breitling’s expansion into the ocean as a lifestyle. From that moment on, sea joined air and land as a Breitling “universe.” Today, its spirit flows into the modern Superocean Automatic, a watch made for those who live by the rhythm of the waves.

LUMINOUS DETAILS: VISIBILITY AT DEPTH
The spearhead hands, indexes, and iconic 12 o’clock lumed circle return, now enhanced with Super-LumiNova®. These high-visibility elements glow brightly in low light, ensuring legibility in any condition— whether under water or after sunset. A nod to the past, built for today.
A ceramic-inlaid bezel brings next-level scratch resistance, keeping the watch looking flawless for years to come. Unlike metals, ceramic resists daily wear while maintaining a sleek, polished finish— perfect for those who demand durability without compromising on style.
SEAMLESS BRACELET: A WATERTIGHT LOOK
Inspired by the 1957 SuperOcean, the bracelet seamlessly disappears behind the case for a sleek, gap-free design. This subtle yet ingenious feature enhances the watch’s fluid aesthetic, reinforcing its water-ready credentials while keeping the original’s signature elegance intact.
The B31 brings watchmaking back to its fundamentals: precision, reliability, and craftsmanship at its best. Breitling’s exclusive new manufacture three-hand movement debuts in the new Superocean Heritage with a free-sprung balance wheel for enhanced precision, sculpted oscillating weight, detailed finishing, and a 78-hour power reserve—form and function in motion.
Breitling’s first dive watches, the Superocean Ref. 1004 (time-only) and Ref. 807 (chronograph), made waves in 1957.
As the world plunged into the dive craze of the late 1950s, Breitling was right there, offering timepieces built for the new underwater explorers.
In 1957, Breitling introduced the SuperOcean Ref. 807, the world’s first dedicated dive chronograph and the first to feature a “reverse panda” dial for optimal legibility underwater. With a water resistance of 200 meters, it marked a breakthrough in both function and design. Later evolutions included the first dedicated minutehand dive timer (1964) and the first automatic dive chronograph (1970). Originally built for professional divers, the Superocean Heritage has since transcended its tool-watch origins to become a symbol of style at sea.
The Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01 is the gold standard of chronograph movements—a powerful, precise, COSC-certified chronometer. With a 70-hour power reserve that offers seamless timekeeping, it’s a movement crafted for those who demand accuracy, from split seconds to the long haul—delivering performance that never misses a beat.
SUPEROCEAN HERITAGE B31
AUTOMATIC 40 KELLY SLATER
For Kelly Slater, Hawaii used to be the dream. Now it’s home. With 11 world titles, 56 event wins, and three decades spent redefining the sport, Slater has gone beyond being a champion—he’s a force of nature. As he steps away from professional competition, Breitling is celebrating his extraordinary career with the Superocean Heritage B31 Automatic 40 Kelly Slater, a watch infused with the surf culture that shaped him.
“Growing up, the goal was getting to Hawaii,” says Slater. “Epic waves, killer sunsets, the ultimate surf lifestyle. I realized living here, it’s so much bigger. The land, the ocean, the community—it’s all connected. Respect runs deep here.”
The limited-edition Superocean Heritage B31 Automatic 40 Kelly Slater reflects that journey. Inspired by the light
and shadows of a tropical canopy, its dial pattern evokes the natural beauty of the Aloha State. With just 500 pieces worldwide, this edition is engraved with “One of 500” and “Kelly Slater Limited Edition” on the open caseback, which frames Breitling’s new B31 movement. The watch comes in a matching presentation box featuring the same Hawaiian foliage motif, along with a personal note from Slater himself.
Available on a blue mesh-rubber strap or stainless-steel mesh bracelet, the watch captures the essence of Slater’s connection to the sea.
“Hawaii teaches you that everything moves in cycles— the tides, the swells, even life itself. This is a reminder to move with it,” he says.
Breitling’s timeless aesthetic meets Cutler and Gross’s handcrafted eyewear in a new sunglasses collaboration inspired by the Superocean Heritage. From luminous lacquerfilled temple tips—mirroring the watch’s arrow hour hand— to Milanese-engraved temples that reflect the Superocean Heritage’s mesh metal bracelet, every detail nods to the timepiece’s design. Breitling’s signature appears on the hinge, while lenses in smoky shades of grey, blue, grey-pink, and green, take inspiration from the watch dial colors. The collection offers four distinct styles, including sleek metal frames, sculpted ecoconscious cellulose acetate, and a sophisticated blend of both. Each style features one 500-piece limited edition outfitted with high-performance Zeiss LightPro® lenses and 18k red-goldplated metalwork—a play on the red-gold hardware found on select models in the new Superocean Heritage assortment.

Inspired by the Superocean Heritage’s mesh metal bracelet, the Milanese-engraved core wire, rivets, and nose bridge add a refined texture, echoing the timeless elegance of Breitling’s classic dive watch design.
Lenses in grey, blue, grey-pink, and green, inspired by Breitling’s watch dials, offer exceptional clarity and optimal protection against the water’s glare— reducing eye strain while enhancing vision in bright, sunlit conditions.
The lacquer-filled temple tips mirror the luminous spearhead hands of the Superocean Heritage, creating a seamless connection between watch and eyewear—uniting precision craftsmanship with a design built for life by the water.
