Summer 2023 01274 432000 bradford-theatres.co.uk
Welcome to Bradford Theatres and our summer season of live entertainment!
With the lighter nights on the way, we’re really looking forward to ushering in our summer 2023 season at the four venues under the Bradford Theatres umbrella.
There’s an array of entertaining and exciting shows taking place this summer but we’re especially proud to be hosting the very best in drama at the Alhambra Theatre. This includes the Royal Shakespeare Company with Julius Caesar and the National Theatre production of An Inspector Calls.
In addition to this inspiring and gripping drama, you can also enjoy a range of new and traditional musicals, family/children’s shows, classical music and stand-up comedy. We’re sure there’s something you’ll want to see and hope you’ll enjoy looking through the brochure.
It’s been wonderful to see so many of you continuing to visit our venues and I look forward to extending our usual warm welcome when you visit Bradford Theatres.
Best wishes

JULIUS CAESAR. A DIVISIVE LEADER WHO HOLDS AWESOME POWER.
Concerned that Caesar poses a threat to democracy, revolutionaries take the violent decision to murder him. They have no plan for what comes next. As the world spins out of control, chaos, horror and superstition rush in to fill the void. Civil war erupts and a new leader must rise: but at what cost?
The Royal Shakespeare Company returns to Bradford with a fast-paced political thriller, directed by Atri Banerjee. Atri was listed in The Stage 25 as one to watch in 2022 and previously won Best Director at The Stage Debut Awards in 2019. His fresh interpretation of Shakespeare’s timeless story forces us all to consider how far we would go for our political principles.

When the age of Music Hall was diminishing after the First World War, audiences demanded more sophistication from their entertainment and Variety took over from the old Music Halls. Packed theatres welcomed the stars of the day at twice nightly shows in London and the regional theatres – including the Alhambra Theatre – with comics, singers, acrobats, ballet stars, magicians, jugglers, mime artists, circus performers and the like.
The Variety circuits were still going strong after the Second World War and American stars were engaged to tour in Variety, as there was still a huge demand for this type of live entertainment. Many of the new breed of comedy artists now tour with one man shows but Variety, as such, is still popular.
Legends of Variety aims to put good old-school star performers back on the boards and bring you the best of those popular star names we all recall and revere. They are all of a certain vintage but their experience and knowledge gained by years of honing their craft is still a joy to behold.
This is a show that is sure to bring back memories of the good old days of the variety circuit and live entertainment.

The powerful bestselling courtroom thriller that inspired a multi Academy Award-Nominated film starring Paul Newman.
Frank Galvin is a washed up veteran lawyer and an alcoholic. He is presented with one last chance to redeem himself when he is given an open-and-shut medical malpractice case that no one thinks he can win. Up against the unforgiving medical establishment, he courageously refuses an out of court settlement, believing it is negligence that has condemned a young mother. Smelling a cover up, he instead takes the case and the entire legal system to court...
Jason Merrells is known to millions for his roles in Agatha Raisin, Emmerdale, Casualty, Waterloo Road and many more. He is joined by Richard Walsh (London’s Burning), Reanne Farley (River City), Vincent Pirillo, Nigel Barber, Okon Jones, Michael Lunney, Sarah Shelton, Jason Wilson, Teresa Jennings, Holly Jackson Walters, James Morley, Bruce Chattan, Anna Arthur and Dave Speck.
This phenomenal and gripping courtroom thriller has enjoyed standing ovations at theatres across the UK and Ireland.

‘ELECTRIFYING. BOURNE’S SMARTEST, SEXIEST SHOW EVER’
Matthew Bourne’s Romeo and Juliet gives Shakespeare’s timeless story of forbidden love a scintillating injection of raw passion and youthful vitality.

Directed and choreographed by Matthew Bourne with Terry Davies’ thrillingly fresh orchestrations of Prokofiev’s dynamic score.

There are no heroes in Simon Beaufoy’s heartfelt play, just a group of lads trying to regain their dignity and pride. This fast and funny play is still very much of our time, as again we are hit by a cost-of-living crisis.
Gaz and his mates are down on their luck and feel they have been thrown on the scrap heap, but they are determined to fight back and bare a little more than they ever thought they would have to.
As in the 1997 smash hit film, this brand-new production is a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs, laughs and heartbreak. Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the film on a major national tour. Book now to relive the music of the 90s and have a great night out in the company of our group of lads as they work to put on the show of their lives.
