Summer Season Brochure 2025

summer at Bradford Theatres!

As Bradford celebrates the year ahead as the UK’s City of Culture, I am excited to tell you about the fantastic live entertainment coming to Bradford Theatres during the summer months.

One of the highlights is Cameron Mackintosh and Disney’s spectacular production of the award-winning musical Mary Poppins which is flying back to Bradford for a 6-week season. Additionally, I am happy to present Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake: The Next Generation

This bold and thrilling revival of the multi awardwinning dance theatre production celebrates 30 years since it was first staged at Sadler’s Wells in London.

Music of all kinds can be heard at our venues this season. I must make special mention of the final concert of our 156th Classical Music Season at St George’s Hall with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra. This concert is of particular significance as we celebrate Bradford’s year as the UK’s City of Culture, with a performance of our own city’s great composer Frederik Delius’s piano concerto. Prior to the tour, this great Delius work will receive its premiere in Manila in the Philippines, a concert that has been inspired by our position as the UK’s City of Culture.

After listening to feedback from our Access Scheme members, I am delighted to announce that it will soon be possible to book access seats, including wheelchair spaces, online via our website. Please see page 34 for further information.

I can’t wait to welcome you to Bradford Theatres during this very special year!

Best wishes

‘THE SHOW THAT CHANGED THE DANCE LANDSCAPE FOREVER’
OBSERVER

Matthew Bourne’s rule-breaking reinvention of Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece caused a sensation when it premiered 30 years ago. It has become the most successful dance theatre production of all time, often giving audiences their first experience of dance in the theatre and inspiring generations of young dancers. In celebration, Swan Lake will take flight once more in a major new revival for the next generation of dancers and audiences who will see it for the first time.

Thrilling, bold, witty and moving, this production of Swan Lake is best known for replacing the swans, traditionally danced by women, with powerful male performers.

Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake took the dance theatre world by storm becoming the most successful dance show ever in the West End and on Broadway, and has since been performed across the globe, collecting over thirty international awards.

This is not a musical. Milton Jones is tone deaf and has no sense of rhythm, but at least he doesn’t make a song and dance about it. He has more important things to discuss. Like giraffes... and there’s a bit about tomatoes.

You might know him from Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo or Radio 4. Or that time he stood for the Scottish National Party, fought a hard campaign, but in the end had to respect the wishes of the people of Cardiff. A whole new show of daftness. You know it makes sense.

Join us for this heartwarming and hilarious adventure, full of beautiful puppets and enchanting songs. Written and illustrated by the unparalleled picture book partnership of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, and adapted for the stage by Oliviernominated duo Barb Jungr and Samantha Lane.
