events May 14 Clay Jenkinson as Thomas Jefferson Newport News | Ferguson Center for the Arts Humanities scholar and writer Clay Jenkinson brings Jefferson to life in his portrayal of the third president with such authenticity that the audience may forget that Mr. Jefferson is not actually standing in front of them. The program will focus on Jefferson’s life and accomplishments, but the audience will have the opportunity to ask Mr. Jefferson questions as well on any subject, an experience that will give everyone a new appreciation of history and our Founding Fathers in a truly inspirational, educational and entertaining way. Virginia Beach | On the beach at 30th Street Beach Music Weekend features bands on the beach with dancing under the stars for a jam-packed blast from the past. The top Beach Music bands from up and down the East Coast descend on the Virginia Beach oceanfront in a nostalgic salute to the “good old days” of hot tunes and cool times. A three-day series of ticketed concerts is presented on a stage built right on the beach at 30th Street. Evening concerts on Friday give way to a full day of entertainment on Saturday and more daytime concerts on Sunday. The festival atmosphere is enhanced with a fantastic food and beverage menu available for purchase. Beer and wine, as well as nonalcoholic beverages including smoothies and soft drinks, go along with great festival food served in tents on the sand. Boardwalk sponsors and vendors overlook the beach, luring visitors from the boardwalk into the fun and sun at Beach Music Cruise-In.
